Posted January 8, 200817 yr as a new spoof soap starts on thursday (10th) entitled 'echo beach' i thought id drag out this classic one hit wonder by martha and the muffins. obviously the title has been unashamedly lifted from marthas hit and the trailers feature it, as its got a very 'indie' (almost siouxsie) sound that might appeal to todays youth (watch out for a re-release?) thought it would be a good idea to show them where it came from! kXCgeL9s0Jg think its a cracking track personally :) i also like their follow ups (non charters) 'siagon' and the excellant 'was ezo'

January 9, 200817 yr I loved this song a lot. There were quite a few cracking one-hit wonders in the 80s.... remember The Passions' 'I'm In Love With A German Film Star', too? From around the same era. HN9cCCxErpw great track... And The Mobiles' 'Drowning In Berlin' - another lost classic... QBteQR0E8cA Edited January 9, 200817 yr by MUSHYMANROB
January 9, 200817 yr Author yeah 'im in love with a german film star' and 'drowning in berlin' were both fantastic tracks.

January 11, 200817 yr A cover by Toyah was also a #54 hit in 1987 - This was also to be her final chart entry. Voe8fwVsFEI
January 11, 200817 yr A pretty average pub band covers song these days. My mate is a drummer in a band called "Nil By Mouth", and this is one of the songs they cover. He's getting pissed off with it, and is going to ask the band to drop it. Edited January 11, 200817 yr by Marcus
January 11, 200817 yr The version they use is nothing like as good as the original. We need a campaign to get Martha and the Muffins back in the charts :D
January 12, 200817 yr Author doesnt the show feature the song but by Gabriella Cilmi http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...endID=114133302 dunno...not seen the programme but the endless trailers for the show IS the original.
January 12, 200817 yr Author The version they use is nothing like as good as the original. We need a campaign to get Martha and the Muffins back in the charts :D NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! please no! 'echo beach' has huge nostalic value to me (as have meny of my fav oldies) and when i hear it i want to remember 'early 1980' . releasing it now would RUIN its nostalgic appeal , i dont want that tune associated with 2008.
January 17, 200817 yr I love Echo Beach and loved it at the time it was in the charts... and it was unusual in that it's one of the few songs from that era that I loved but never got around to buying. I did try to buy it, twice I think, but both times the local Woolies had sold out. I've long since owned it on some 1980s compilation and can still listen to it without getting bored. I bought the Mobiles song, but never the Passions song. I liked it but not enough to buy it over other songs that were in the charts in early 1981 (limited funds at the time as I was still at school!).
January 30, 200817 yr doesnt the show feature the song but by Gabriella Cilmi http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...endID=114133302 Yeh, i heard the cover and wondered who it was by. this girl's wicked http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jtbM6wwyA1U cannot believe shes only 16.
