Posted June 30, 200817 yr http://i31.tinypic.com/11jyatv.png Chart Commentary CSS spend a second week at no.1, but it was hard-fought as realistically, any of this week's top 3 could have been no.1 quite comfortably. The nearest challengers, Coldplay have climbed for a second successive week with 'Viva La Vida' to land them the no.2 place, while Noah and the Whale experience a cushdy 2 place climb into the top 3 from last week's no.5. Brand new entry at no.4 from Futureheads, who have scored their 3rd consecutive top 5 hit with 'Walking Backwards' which is one of my faves from their excellent album. Their third release (limited) looks set to score them a third top 3, following on from previous singles 'Beginning Of The Twist' and 'Radio Heart'. Former no.1 'Free Things For Poor People' suffers a 3 place plummet, despite Infadels' album having non-stop play the past 2 days. The bottom 5 of this week's chart is nothing to be sniffed at either as the most successful song of 2008 so far finally leaves the top 5 after a record 12 weeks. Just below 'Two Doors Down' is the Last Shadow Puppets' follow-up to their spring no.1 smash 'Age Of The Understatement' from the album of the same name. They'll be disappointed it failed to break the top 3. Ting Tings are the only risers in the bottom half this week, they're up one place to no.8 which again is a bit of a disappointment considering 'That's Not My Name' peaked at no.2 and was in serious contention for the top spot. Only one new entry this week, courtesy of Infadels which was supposed to enter last week. 'Universe In Reverse' is one of the year's pleasant surprises, full of bouncing anthemic tunes, which the dozen or so people who bought this album will enjoy immensly. I'll certainly be playing it throughout this summer, so expect it to stick around. Sticking around is the name of the game for this week's no.3 album 'Twenty One' which has recently been re-packaged to include the Mystery Jets cover of 'Somewhere In My Heart' which was originally featured on the 'Two Doors Down' single. Their third single has been confirmed as 'Half In Love With Elizabeth' and is released in August. Hmmm, it's a tough one to call as there isn't a bad song on it imo.
