The most successful non-number one of the year 'Talons' slips again this week to no.4 and there's a new entry for Kings of Leon who follow up last year's top 3 smash 'Fans' and crudely named former no.1 'Sex On Fire' with this, a cracking release from their current album 'Only By The Night'. The rest bar this week's no.10 (The Last Shadow Puppets, in case you're wondering. Which you probably aren't) are all fallers. And that's pretty much it. After entering at no.2 in it's first week, it was unlucky to never reach the top spot, kept off by Razorlight's 'America' ar5BKXg60ME Bones Charted: 13-11-06 Peak: No.4 The second release from 'Sam's Town' saw them record a second conescutive top 5 release, but fail to enter the top 3 despite entering the chart during a reasonably quiet period. This fell out of the chart pretty quickly 3Oec8RuwVVs Read My Mind Charted: 08-01-07 Peak: No.1 [5 weeks] It was a case of third time lucky for The Killers, who finally made the top spot with the cracking 'Read My Mind'. It is highly unusual for a band to make no.1 with a third single after the first 2 failed to, and to date I think The Killers are the only band to achieve this. This song spent 5 weeks at no.1 early last year, and rightly so T1dSkEHQCQU For Reasons Unknown Charted: 30-04-07 Peak: No.5 Instead of quitting while they were ahead, The Killers decided to milk the cash cow for all it's worth and bravely decided to release a 4th single from 'Sam's Town'. It backfired, and the single flopped in both my chart and the UK singles chart, only just making the top 5 in TOTB dqKXGeV6-Wk Don't Shoot Me Santa Charted: 19-11-07 Peak: No.1 [2 weeks] The Killers scored their 2nd TOTB no.1 and indeed the Christmas and New Year no.1 spots with this Christmas cracker. Sadly, it seems I was the only one who saw the appeal in a Crimbo song about a ginger sociopath dressed as Santa attempting to kill Brandon Flowers. Shame W-TlywZA0bI Human Charted: 29-09-08 Peak: No.1 [Current no.1 - 5 weeks so far] The Killers got back to making 'proper' music in September 2008, with the first release from their forthcoming 'Day & Age' album. 'Human' might not make much sense, but it is a brilliant track, and it eased it's way to the top of the chart just a week after entering.
