Carly Rae Jepsen - Don't Leave Me on the Dance Floor
Can't get enough of this. Debuted at #40 in the UK airplay chart last week and is #27 in the rolling 7-day. So glad it's at least getting radio play in the UK including the BBC Radio 2 A-list!! Such great ABBA vibes.

The UK Radio & TV Airplay Charts - W/E 27 August 2026
Glad to see Carly Rae Jepsen's "Don't Leave Me on the Dance Floor" picking up nicely in airplay since being A-listed by BBC Radio 2. The song is a bop!

Estimated ACR status updates 2026
It should hopefully last quite a while now. Part of the reason it's been consistently back to SCR over the years is that after its release Gaga went through an album campaign and earlier this year Bruno went through one - both of which boosted the song/kept it higher for longer. Plus their subsequent tours boosted the song as well. Gaga and Bruno don't seem to have anything that will boost it soon... Although watch them announce a collab album or something with it included.

Friday Chart Predictions
Could Jorja improve through the week? She's likely to pick up some consistent/low streaming sales/be less front-loaded than most I would think? Really poor showing from Sam although not surprising. Fingers crossed "Rein Me In" goes to ACR finally. Might see a much quicker turnover at #1 the following weeks with how close/low sales are.

"serena joy" is a low-key bop. Hopefully it'll be able to debut high given how low streams are at the top and debut top 40 in the official chart without issue despite the late release.

Surprised how well it's been doing. Going to overtake "Houdini" in the future in total streams. I assume it's been going viral on/off on TikTok. Speaking of which I wonder when Dua is releasing her next album. Might not be until 2029 if her album gap trend continues but I feel like 2027 is on the cards? Glad to see "Since U Been Gone" staying stable and "Just Give Me A Reason"/"Pocketful of Sunshine" climbing still. "Airplanes" also up to a neak peak of #147. Although have to say it's rather depressing going through the top 200. Streams are quite low that so many older songs are present throughout... Even with this year's generally decent release line-up of big acts releasing hasn't been able to sustain itself/make a big enough impact.

Was there some sort of playlist promoted? Or perhaps Spotify's autoplay? Or is there a 2010s viral trend on TikTok? Not complaining as I'm happy to see the likes of "Since U Been Gone" and "Talking Body" re-entering.

Some great certs this week! Echoing the love for "My Delirium"! Was obsessed with it when released 18 years ago... As well as the album! Also great to see Mary J. Blige's "Real Love" certified silver - an R&B classic. Shame it only managed to peak at #68 in the UK.

It might have been as it seems to have been reverted. I think this time there were quite a lot of songs (dozens, potentially hundreds) that got combined and some jumped on a bandwagon of assuming it was an update Spotify was rolling out (I jumped on the bandwagon as well it seems!). I can't find anything official from Spotify either.

It started a couple days ago from what I can tell with select songs. It might make the chart even less fresh with songs like "Save Your Tears" being combined and popping back up. But it should make it easier to see how songs are doing that have multiple versions doing well. I believe those will stay as is as they were re-recordings and charted separately as well. Although given Taylor has her masters back she might request they be combined?

Spotify are in the middle of combining remixes of songs into a songs total streaming figures. This may affect "Rein Me In" as we might get all versions combined so don't be surprised if there's a sudden increase it its daily streams. Examples from recent days are songs like "Bring Your Love" by Madonna & Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift's "Karma" remix with Ice Spice and Ariana Grande's "Supernatural" remix with Troye Sivan. It's part of them trying to clean up their data and to an extent makes sense as most remixes are combined with the originals for chart purposes. It's just a shame you won't be able to see how many streams a remix did vs the original now. The Spotify chart might start looking quite a bit different with a lot of movement lower down the chart potentially.

Oh 100%. But labels don't care as long as they make their money and for some artists it's either a residency or they won't tour at all such as Kelly Clarkson - although understandable given Kelly has children. Similar thing with Adele doing Las Vegas residency to work her life around her son with her Munich residency taking place during the US school holidays.

I think it's much easier for the artists and labels to do residencies. Less travelling involved/less taxing on the artist and cheaper as you don't need to move large amounts of equipment as much. London is the best connected city in the UK (and the world generally) too. Although hopefully with Manchester's Co-op Live arena we'll see more artists doing residencies there in future.

Oo I hope Madonna and Kylie can manage enough CDs for top 20! Although the CD release should guarantee top 40 at least.

Might as well have "Rein Me In" #1 for the rest of the year. Maybe Sam and Olivia can release a festive version for Christmas.

Friday Chart Predictions
I believe Madonna/Kylie have physicals out in September? So they could make it top 40 then if they manage to shift 10kish? Which I think would be doable? Maybe they should release a music video around the same time for a small boost to streaming as well.

Will the OCC change the rules again?
Honestly including radio would make the chart more interesting and help bridge the gap between radio audiences vs streaming audiences. It would make it relevant again to the charts. In olden times, increasing/sustained radio play would usually translate into increased sale/chart positions. But with steaming increased radio play has almost no influence there. The #1 song on radio can be almost non-existent on streaming services and vice versa. Radio playlists tends to be fresher/have a higher turnover than streaming playlists as well - particularly the larger playlists such as today's top hits where songs can spend 1+ years on them.

It wasn't released as a single in the UK. Otherwise it was an easy big hit... Her 2nd album release was a mess as it didn't release in the US initially but instead they re-packaged into a completely "new" album Pocketful of Sunshine for the US market which included "Love Like This" which was released as a single in the UK. I never got my brain around why they never released "Pocketful of Sunshine" globally when it took off/became big in the US. Especially as the US market in those days was seen as the most difficult to crack/break into so any song that makes a big impact would likely be a big hit globally...
