Whilst I can see why Taylor would want her music on TikTok, doesn’t this cheapen the case for the label getting artists a better rate from song use on the app? Would have thought given Taylor’s previous removal from Spotify because of what they were paying, she would have backed her music being off TikTok until they budge here.

I am going between 750k-1 mil region. Would be shocked if the biggest song did less than 700k, but not convinced the appetite across the general public for the new album is as significant as some people are thinking. Time will tell.

Agreed here, I am quite disappointed to be honest. This just sounds like another generic dance track using a recognisable sample to me.

And yet it has taken this long for him to get his second top 10 single. Even Eat Your Young with the pre-release hype didn’t scrape top 20, with that still being his best chart performance since 2015. Not many acts can survive a gap in hits like that and then come back challenging for #1. It certainly wasn’t in my bingo book for the year. Here’s hoping bodyguard stabilises and climbs back up.

The Beyonce album has only been out a few hours, so album bomb effect hasn’t even started yet. Whether that is enough to boost Texas Hold will be clearer by Saturday.

Surprised it took Shania this long for Don’t Be Stupid to go silver. One of my faves, especially the dance mix.

Ariana is my preferred choice, but I expect Djo to clinch it.

Being strict on myself and only going for one song per week. Happier gets my first vote - been obsessed with that for weeks. :wub: Olly gets my second vote and hope it becomes a decent sized hit after Eurovision. Overall not a bad set of entries. Skrapz being the only one I couldn’t finish. D-Block Europe being the bigger issue for me on that track though. :puke2:

There is definitely some dead wood to clear, but nice to see the top of the charts being interesting for once. Certainly beats the situation we were in just over a month ago where it was just stick season, Prada, greedy, cruel summer and MOTD (Lovin On Me before that) hogging the top 5. Great numbers for Ariana and to see 9 songs still top 40 almost a week in is great. Happy for Djo too although I wonder if it would be doing this well if the TikTok black out of universal acts/songwriters wasn’t limiting choice on the app.

I don’t get the comments suggesting waning interest in the charts. How is this measured or evidenced? We may not have as many people listening to the radio now, but in part comes from how accessible music has come from streaming services, including finding new music. You don’t need to listen to a chart show or radio to find new music like you used to. Whilst I agree the charts aren’t perfect, I don’t think anything we do would get people outside chart fans more engaged. I also don’t get comments saying the chart risks ‘creaking into oblivion’ or what that would even look like. Clear from forums like this that even with regular chart grumblers about staleness/acr/etc, the same people are still checking the charts regularly so it can’t be THAT bad.

This does feel quite pointless to me. A top 10 also seems like something that can be manipulated to get a peak position that is misleading on a song’s actual impact. At least with number one you need significant sales to get there. Can’t see the OCC handing one of these to The K*nts for their Boris Johnson Christmas singles as one example where I don’t expect distribution compared to artists the occ might want to highlight. For hits not reaching number one but making a big impact, there are the bpi certifications.

Looks like Jack Black’s band has covered Britney as part of the soundtrack to Kung Fu Panda 4 Actually think he has done a good job here! Given Peaches ended up being a chart hit, perhaps this might be making an appearance to…

I turned off after the first hour as it was a snooze fest. Will catch up on performances later. Raye being up for and winning best new artist feels so off. I get this was her first album but in this age of lengthy EPs and mixtapes of singles, an album release can be quite far into a career now.

*NSYNC is the only omission that comes to mind. Bye Bye Bye is the only platinum certified single (26.11.2021). Top album unclear as but the 3 gold albums are No Strings Attached (September 2000), Celebrity (May 2002) and Greatest Hits (December 2022)

Definitely feels like the emphasis is on the song this time rather than Sophie, with the album benefitting loads first time around. Great for MOTD although it is a shame none of her other tracks/albums have seen a noticeable benefit/viral surge.

Enough sounds a bit more interesting than the other singles so far. Got an uphill climb for this to do anything though.

The film has obviously been a massive bomb, but I expect Argylle’s heavy use of the song has helped build some more streams/downloads recently. Crazy sales point for Mr Brightside.

Quite like the ‘new’ Hazbin Hotel song and glad it has overtaken last week’s third choice. Picked that, Jazzy and Cat Janice.

Has Flowers just had a delayed reset?

I am not sure the Beyoncé songs will do that well here given the country sound. Missing 3 days of the tracking week won’t help either.
