Having a look on BPI certifications and see Shining was certified silver for 200,000 units on Friday 17th June, so every track on this list is certified. Lemonade tracks definitely hit hard by being Tidal exclusive so long. US targeted playlisting also making an impact on how well some of these songs have done after their initial release.

Yeah, they definitely got muddled on that last part. It was initially released as part of the movie soundtrack for the film ‘She’s Having A Baby’ before being included on the A Sensual World album I believe.

25 still had single campaign promoting it 6 months after 25’s release though. Adele/her team have all but given up plugging 30. Bored of all the Ed talk. I don’t see how it is anything but a positive seeing someone plugging multiple post album singles and maintaining interest in the album. If Ed stopped promoting after Christmas, I have no doubt he would be in a similar position to Adele.

What a crazy boost for Kate. Haven’t watched the new stranger things yet but must be pretty special to get this kind of reaction. If Kate’s catalogue could get some more viral hits in the 21st century, that would be great.

Well we do still have her shows in July and the vegas shows were only postponed rather than outright cancelled, so there is scope for further singles etc. Does feel a bit too long a gap now to come back with another single still and Adele isn’t exactly active on socials, so who knows.

I wouldn’t say we would have walked it. We were barely ahead of Spain in the final tally and it is impossible to say how things would have turned out had the war in Ukraine not have happened. The reception since has been phenomenal, so I don’t know much bigger that could be if he did win the whole thing. Looking forward to seeing how he now impacts charts here and elsewhere.

Great to see some real investment in an artist we have sent for Eurovision. Guessing there will be another single before album release based on that date. Looking forward to seeing how Space man holds up post contest. Can see him becoming a fanbase/album artist.

That performance looked immaculate. The choreo and staging really uplifted the song. On its own the song is good, but not a standout. Chanel elevated it to standout last night and I am pleased it still got top 3.

If we can just end up on the left hand side of the board by the end of the night, that will be a victory for us. Anything further up, great. Staging looks nice but a bit basic to me. Looking forward to seeing the full set as intended as hopefully they have some tricks up their sleeves.

It was a pretty poor selection of songs to be fair, Subwoolfer being the big hitter of the night (+ Ukraine but I suspect that will appeal more to a general audience than those watching the semi-finals). Curious to see what gets cherrypicked from tonight’s line-up. Expecting Brooke and Cordelia to at least get some sales.

Is there a reason The Weeknd and Dua have suddenly dropped out considering they were both top 20 last week? Thought the boot out happened once they dropped below 50 after x number of weeks in the chart. Guessing I missed an update to the chart rules?

Fair enough if so but I can’t say I have seen any viral vids for the track like you got for wellerman, aurora, Duncan Lawrence etc. even the biggest vid for it on youtube linked to Tik Tok only has 80k views. I admit I could just be out the loop here, but I know it has good airplay and imagine a lot of people listening have heard via radio/playlists. Cjthedj - ah fair enough. Don’t know how I missed that. Hoping it can climb a bit further then if ACR isn’t holding it back.

I would say the releases are happening, it is just much more difficult to break through now. Those fortunate enough to get there (e.g. Peru, MMFG etc) then stick around much longer. We are definitely lacking in big names these days releasing or at least feeling like an event. Ed bring the only real one I can think of actively putting stuff out and making each single an event. Even with Adele having released an album not that long ago has all but fizzled our. 10 years ago we would be on single #3 with a video and some promo slots. I was hoping names like Shawn Mendes and Lizzo would still have enough impact but even they are struggling when it wasn’t that long ago they were doing well with multiple hits. Only other thing I have noticed is we aren’t getting the big Tik Tok songs like we did the last two years. If a song has blown up lately, they have been either well established hits already or random tracks all outside the 3 year window so being prevented from ever having a big chart moment due to the 3 year rule (e.g. dandelions). Agree with those about Starlight. If that goes ACR before those top 10 cloggers, then that will feel like a chart injustice.

Thanks for sharing this Julian. Would be quite happy to see songs like Lost stick around for the end of year where it didn’t exactly set the charts alight on release. Perfect and Someone You Love however need to go.

Guessing you are talking about Go. I definitely prefer the remix based on what is available on streaming - has a bit more life to it. I am sure of they ever put the UK radio edit up though that would leap frog both. Don't understand why this isn't available yet.

It isn't that black and white though and definitely works both ways. The charts create engagement in the music releases and a good chart battle can lead to more sales than if there wasn't a chart. It is increasingly difficult to measure where you don't need to buying music outright isn't the biggest medium now. Although they definitely have some short fallings, I think they do a good job to keep people engaged. The chart is much more interesting with ACR and the 3 track rule in place. I certainly would have less interest if those weren't in place.

I do agree for the most part on this. Charity singles have not been big sellers in the last few years since streaming has taken over. Looking at the last two ‘big’ charity singles (captain Tom and the radio 1 foo fighters cover), neither have done more than 150k sales (correct me if wrong) and realistically we are looking at 50% of those sales going to charity. A benefit concert however inspires more people to donate so prefer that than some flash in the pan cover. Echo the sentiments above still about the intentions of some of the participants to these records and how much they are doing to support the actual cause. Hard not to be a bit cynical in this day and age.

It was absolutely massive! Was one of the main reasons the song broke top 10 after weeks stuck just outside. If I ever heard the song in a club around that time, it was the remix being played.

Great result for Dave, first decent numbers I can recall from this year so far. Prefer to see this go #1 than Peru or WAYN getting there by default due to ACR. Hopefully Camila can make some gains over time. Clear her name isn't enough to get big peaks on day one anymore. Sounds very radio friendly (though I doubt anyone would consider it a stand out in her discography).

Genuinely don’t understand why Heat Waves is still doing so well this far along. More than overstayed its welcome at this point.
