AIWFCIY fatigue sets in about now after being heard everywhere for the past 3 weeks :lol: Hopefully next year wham can take over sooner so they get a shot at being the top Christmas song for a change.

I went with charity/novelty song, with standard Christmas song being a close second. I don’t see the issue with a charity song where it is usually one week that feels weird having a normal chart song at the top. Rockabye being an example already noted that does not feel like a Xmas number one at all. New Christmas songs would also be great but not keen on the amazon exclusives where these songs are blowing up, but most people who don’t have an Amazon subscription will never have heard them before the chart. #1s should have some hype around them which River did not have.

Definitely think this chart thread will be much more interesting than the Spotify one this week. After today's announcement, I think Ladbaby has some competition!

I see Snowman is in at #40 today. Would love to see this do something. Hopefully the label can get it reset from ACR where it is being promoted for the first time with a new video.

I chose 70-80k. The iTunes chart is saturated with charity/novelty releases this year so I think there will be more spread out support for different campaigns. I also think the novelty is wearing thin now, but that might just be me.

I expect it will be split like Sam Smith released lay me down for comic relief, so all sales are separate to the album version. If this version is for charity the proceeds aren’t jumbled with the normal version.

The OCC hoping if they ignore it, Mariah will just go away eventually :lol: Tbf, makes sense for them to plug the new releases which won't get anywhere near the same radio/media coverage MC will have this week. I would rather she stayed ahead of Jess and Justin still!

I believe it is sales and audio streaming only at present with 150 streams = 1 sale. Don't think they have anything like ACR yet or premium/free stream ratios etc. The French chart is a notoriously tough chart/market to get into (at least for international artists), so will be interesting to see if this changes under the OCC.

But it’s the ‘stupid rules’ that have managed to maintain a level of turnover in the top 40 and 100. Could you imagine how many extra weeks Mr Brightside or Baby Shark would have if they weren’t there. Streaming (video & audio) is a very slow moving platform of consumption so to give new music a chance there has to be some level of rules to uplift new songs and downgrade old ones (though I do disagree with anything over 3 years being on ACR even if it never charted before). I think 1000 would be excessive for a chart as it would only interest chart fans like those here, a general audience wouldn’t care if a song got to #451. Top 200 (with ACR) would be good, but you can’t go much further out otherwise the positions would look more embarrassing than they would if blacked out the top 100 as they are now. Artists still get certifications and more tracks than ever are being certified which in itself speaks the achievement of the song - I think those need more of a public image myself.

Yeah, potentially blocked out due to the 3 track rule until the end of the year. Was hoping to see Ava a bit higher but don’t think it is on radio or tv at all. Putting a song out and getting it on some Xmas playlists isn’t enough for new songs.

Those Trolls songs taking the place of some quality solo singles :puke2: Shame 4 in the morning and the singles from this is what the truth feels like have not made enough impact to be on here. I expect you make it feel like Christmas to climb in within a year or two. Not a massive seller but has done enough to chart in recent years and still on many Christmas playlists.

Ah, I get it now thanks. Didn’t see the link before between the song and the posts where the song title and artists on the videos are different to the remix. Definitely a regional thing then, can’t say I have heard of sloshing before. :lol:

Charity release from Clyde 1 radio morning host . I imagine it will drop soon but no idea how popular his radio show is. It’s a Scottish show so doubt it will gain interest elsewhere. *I couldn’t see any mention before as well so not sure what Manic Kangaroo was referring to, but it does have a thread in the dance forum.

I am also expecting another rule change to come sooner rather than later to counter the Christmas domination we are seeing now, so hoping Mariah gets it before they remove the possibility of it happening in the future.

Come through Dolly Parton getting that top 75 Spotify position. Will at least have the benefit of not being on ACR like the vast majority of Christmas songs will be. Pleased to see Kelly having a great year. Would love to see it get a well deserved top 10 position before the year is out.

As pleased as I am to see Oh Santa actually looking to become a hit, I wish it was the original rather than this remix. Sounds really messy to me on first listen.

Bar Ladbaby, I think people are a bit fed up with all the charity singles we have had so far this year. Even Ladbaby would need some major sales to stop Mariah if her streams keep building as they have so far this year.

I think this is bound to be its year unless there is a big surprise release. Chose the Xmas chart week as for when but wouldn’t be surprised if it gets there sooner where none of the new releases seem to be gaining any major traction.

Thanks for that. Sad to see the overall numbers have dropped for non Xmas songs. I guess the impact of lockdown reducing Friday night life is hitting the sales. Clear boost for Mariah still. Will be exciting to see what it gets Xmas eve.

Does anyone know what Spotify streams Mariah had to get #1 last year. Based on those numbers it looks more like it is doing better mostly to a lack of big competition. Still impressive when we aren’t in December yet, though I feel like this weekend is being treated as the equivalent ethers 1st December is mid-week.

Correct me if I am wrong Apple users as not used since it launched, but Apple seemed far less playlist focused than Spotify. Think that shows in the Apple charts compared to Spotify (& amazon where we see the spike at Christmas).

You might not have a problem with the slur, but many others do. You could say that some people are fine using the n word but that doesn’t mean it should be used on radio because it doesn’t offend everyone within the demographic it targets. The same point can go the other way as well. If they just mute the word and you want to fill the gap sing it out. People can still enjoy the song with one word muted out. Commercial radio would have died years ago if people turned off whenever they might face a song with something muted out. If streaming sites muted it, then I would be annoyed but radio (especially the bbc) has a responsibility when it comes to stuff like this to make sure what they play is suitable for all audiences. Haven’t heard the other version but I agree it should be muted pre-watershed. Don’t see why stuff like this needs to be publicly announced as others have stated, it just ruffles feathers.
