  1. These words fill me with dread as of late. Most of the recent crossovers from this have been awful
  2. This is where the big casualty of the streaming era comes into effect. With unlimited access to catalogues and the lack of traditional single campaigns we are not seeing the number of new ‘classics’ which previous decades conjured up. It is something getting worse year on year as more rely on playlists instead of investing in songs and artists like they used to. Can’t see this week’s #1 for example being a classic building up radio/tv/streaming support a decade+ down the line (time will tell). Mr Brightside is one of those songs which is still played in clubs 15 years on and still sounds contemporary. It is to party playlists what all I want for Christmas is to Xmas playlists, the difference being party playlists aren’t a once a year listen.
  3. Spotify don’t have such a monopoly on the streaming market these days so it is spread out. With the Alexa units, that has helped amazon take a good share from Spotify/Apple, as shown with river going #1 despite being amazon exclusive. Other than that current chart music isn’t the most accessible to all demographics and will still mostly be made up from the younger age groups.

Was hoping head & heart would have broke the top 100 by now but it appears to be stalling in the bubbling under chart.
  5. Kylie’s team will go all out with release week to get the top spot, with multiple versions and collectors editions etc. I don’t think little mix have the album buying fan base currently to beat that. Little Mux will probably be the bigger ‘seller’ in the long run though thanks to streaming.

Great result for BTS! I hope it doesn’t plummet too far down as fan base buys dry up.
  7. Pleased to see Cry About It Later made some impact on day 1, even if it was minor. I suspect this was more to do with New Music Friday placement than the people listening to the album, considering Daisies is the only other song to just scrape top 200.
  8. All these Prince demos coming out and we still can’t download/stream The Most Beautiful Girl In The World :(
  9. You have also got to take into account the current climate. Kylie can’t do the promo she could do pre-Covid. Dancing was covered by numerous tv/radio interviews plus performances (Saturday Night Takeaway notes below being one of the biggest). The song has been well received and doing just fine for where Kylie is career wise now. I do hope she can get into the top 75 still by album release time. Maybe another Gente de zona remix is what is needed
  10. WAP really is coming for #1 isn’t it
  11. Great stuff. I imagine My Only Wish is all but guaranteed to get to silver by the end of the year as well. It’s a shame sales data for those lower down the list has been hard to come by. I wouldn’t be surprised if If U Seek Amy has leapfrogged My Prerogative by now.
  12. Has to be one of the strongest release weeks in a long while. Una's new one is really nice, definitely get the 90s sound that has been mentioned. Very Faith Hill. Sabrina Carpenter's is also strong. Holiday and Say Something to smash please
  13. This point exactly. Dancing going top 40 was a big achievement for Kylie in the streaming age and something big artists that started 10-15 years later than Kylie struggle to achieve. Madonna couldn't even go top 75 with the lead from her last album, so I will be happy happy if Say Something can even go top 75 considering how much more dominant streaming is year on year. Surprised History has become such a popular song for 1D now. Didn't think much of it at the time and far from their best. Looks like it will be their Never Forget. Curious to see how Taylor impacts itunes tomorrow. Not looking to be her standard pop record and not lead by any hyped up singles.
  14. I don’t think downloads will be any issue for Kylie compared to the rest of the download market. It’s streaming she will struggle with. Agreed on the comments saying she should have held off until tomorrow. It’s not like she will break Spotify top 50 for tomorrow and all downloads today won’t make a dent on the charts for tomorrow, so I don’t see the benefit.
  15. I am guessing they will do run downs of classic chart weeks then, or will they be looking at up to date weekly charts minus the contemporary artists? Not sure how the latter would work unless they just stuck to iTunes etc.
  16. Kinda glad the Kygo/Tina track isn’t doing well. Just seems a bit pointless and a weaker version of an already very popular track. Higher Love was helped by the fact the general UK audience weren’t familiar with Whitney’s original version. If it was an unknown Tina track, this might be a bit more exciting, if you ignore the predictable Kygo production. So pleased Head & Heart has blown up so fast. Seen so many predictions on here that Rockstar would have a 10+ week run, then people expecting Savage Love to have a Despacito kinda run, only to have a new surprise keep popping up. Just shows how hard it is to predict this stuff when you don’t know what is around the corner.

Glad GOOBA will be gone next week. Hopefully the last time we hear from him in the top 40 this year. Good timing for Break My Heart as well with Hallucinate getting pushed now. Also Rover opening up a spot in the top 10, so a good week for ACR conversions. All here for a Frozen 2 comeback with the reset in place.
  18. I think mine was Alexandra Burke's Start Without You. I liked the notion of collecting for artists I liked tough most had dried up by then. The main benefit for me were exclusive B-sides and sometime a poster/booklet if included. If more did this and they weren't more than£2-£3, I would pick more up. Hard to justify the cost when you get everything as part of a monthly streaming subscription thee days.
  19. I am here for jaja ding dong to keep climbing  There seems to be a lot of buzz for the Eurovision film on Netflix so the songs might actually stick around for a bit. Some are actually quite good, husavik being the obvious hit of the bunch.
  20. It’s success continues to surprise me, where it hasn’t had any of the treatment most post album singles have had (new remixes, acoustic versions, new feature), despite being out for over 7 months and did well as a promo single. Hopefully will give Spotify more incentive to add these post album singles to playlists without needing those things have become standard these days.
  21. This is what happens with extended quiet spells. Same reason Perfect is back in the uk top 40 charts despite being from his second to last album campaign. Shame it isn't their new stuff doing well. Been loving Caution, was hoping it would do similar to The Man but it appears to have done worse.
  22. Stay Gold is a bit underwhelming. Not expecting it to hang around like Boy With Luv, but you never know. Being a quiet week might help it. Going to be a good week for Vera Lynn (I hope). Would love to see her get one song top 40.
  23. That 6ix9ine decline is great to see.
  24. Love seeing how stable Think About Things has been. Just needs some decent playlist support to get it to really take off.
  25. Some respectable numbers there. I imagine Baby It’s Cold Outside will be ahead of Delilah before long still. Shame couldn’t add downloads as well to this list.
