That’s some fantastic physical sales considering their market share at this point. Ed has really shown this era how physical singles sales can still play a vital role in the charts when executed well. Hopefully this trend continues with other artists. Makes the charts more interesting than when you can tell who will be number one based on the Spotify chart alone.
  2. This album is classic ABBA through and through. Definitely doesn’t disappoint. Shame it is only 10 tracks but if nothing else, encourages repeat listens. If general audiences feel the same, this could be quite the consistent streamer.
  3. Agreed. A top 100 simply isn’t reflective enough for the whole year in the age is streaming. Unless some mega event happens, I can’t see anything released from this point in the year making top 100.

Let’s hope this brings a return of B-sides. Not a fan of all these 1 track CDs.

Even ignoring the political songs, BTS showed there was a clear issue with the weighting of downloads and how this can currently be abused. Definitely needs a review.
  6. I am expecting this to be a popular stocking filler and we are at the time people start buying for Christmas, so hopefully we won’t see such a steep decline in physical sales after week 1 over the next couple of months. I am hoping we do get something in terms of promo. A television special would be nice, even if the group don’t perform live.

As has been the case for the singles, neither ever had amazing streaming numbers in any one week. However, they have both stuck around for ages and been very consistent. I see no reason that won’t be the case with the next single and rest of the album. In the long run, I am sure the sales coming from streaming will look pretty healthy.
  8. Looking forward to Dan + Shay’s song. Guessing George will be the biggest hit this year out of those.
  9. Thanks! Agreed with those unenthused about that Alessia Cara Amazon exclusive. Can’t imagine many choosing to listen to that outside of a playlist. Would rather they used some less well known songs. River worked well as it was never a big Christmas standard like Rocking Around The Christmas Tree/Jingle Bell Rock etc.

Cold Heart creeping closer to top 10. Will be interesting to see how Ed’s album impacts this chart next week. Hoping Shivers breaks top 5 with the added attention.

It acts as a collectors item though - the website even highlights it as limited edition. Adele might not have many singles but her star status adds a lot of weight to stuff like this. I don’t see how it is that different to ABBA’s release.
  12. I didn’t even know this was a thing you could view on Spotify! Guessing it is desktop only? Comfortable lead again for Adele. The Anxiety getting so close to top 10 now.
  13. The song is nice enough and I am sure it will please the radio 2/Gary Barlow tour crowd but doesn’t grab me as a future classic. Time will tell. Let’s hope it gets some good playlist placement otherwise this will do nothing. Shame that it is just 2 extra tracks for all formats. Not really much incentive to buy the whole album again based on that. Fingers crossed next year we get a full album of new material again.

Given this a few listens now and it isn’t clicking how I hoped. Bar the three singles, Collide is the only other stand out for me. The rest are pleasant enough, but nothing I would listen to outside of the album.

Well there were articles saying there would be a single release for Christmas so there is still hope for that. Considering Just A Notion was already well known in its demo form, it’s not as exciting as the completely new songs that were initially released. Plus £4 for a cd single when the album is only a few weeks away isn’t going to interest casual audiences. Really pleased for Elton. Cold Heart has done him the world of good. Gives me hope more legacy acts can still have some chart success if they play their cards right.
  16. Hoping the digital/cd release has more to it than what has been confirmed for the vinyl release, as an extra 2 tracks is disappointing. Either way, looking forward to hearing them and hopefully the single can get decent playlist placement to get noticed. Hard for new tracks to break through unless you get the Alexa treatment.
  17. Looking good for Money going top 40 at this point :cheer:
  18. I went with 30+ top 40 based on the 24th and 25th being taken into account. Can’t see a drop off for Christmas songs charting without added chart rules to restrict them. Also went 61-70 since we only just missed the 60 mark last year, though we are scraping the barrel for songs that will be on multiple playlists at that stage (as shown by some of the songs that scraped top 100 last year).
  19. It is quite common still with K-pop to have traditional single/EP releases with 1-3 b-sides. The concept over here is pretty dead now sadly, but appropriate here.

I am curious what they will bring out this year. Doubt anything will challenge for Christmas #1 though with where Christmas Day falls this year. The week after is a possibility though.

I am sure they will both drop out by the end of the week, but nice to see two other Elton tracks top 100 in the mids. Just shows there is some streaming presence beyond Cold Heart. Will be interesting to see if any Lana tracks creep in by the end of the week.
  22. I have gone with Elton, though I think it will be very close. Haven’t really heard any buzz about new Lana this time and not expecting much from Biffy. Elton has had a resurgence even before Cold Heart with the Rocketman film, Step Into Christmas becoming a more prominent Xmas staple song and some of his recent features (Gaga, Y&Y, Lil Nas X), so there does seem to be more buzz about him now than there was at any time during the last decade. Not ruling Coldplay out but will be clearer when we have album sales today. I suspect they were very frontloaded, but if it has kept up respectable numbers each day (3.5K +) then it might hold on.

I’m glad Industry Baby managed to get a week at the top before Adele starts her stint at #1. Shivers finally breaking through to top 10 :cheer:
  24. I expect it to at least do 300k. Can’t imagine it being that much beyond this with the album market now but who knows with Adele. Would love to see it do more.
  25. Still a great start for Adele. Let’s see how well it holds up compared to the Drake tracks. Expecting a bit more longevity with Easy On Me.
