I don’t know if it is different for artist albums to playlists, but I got a load of ads for the footie playlists around World Cup and can’t say I intentionally listened to any tracks prior bar Waka Waka. :lol:

Sweetener has been a huge disappointment for me. Not expecting anything bar breathin’ off the album hanging around for long (bard GIAW and NTLTC of course). Even then, I wouldn’t rate Breathin’ that highly.

Really not feeling the lifetime to repair edit, but nice to see the fans supporting (even if it is about 100-200 sales ). Really hoping Janet Jackson starts picking up. Looking forward to the album based off the sound of Made For You

Yeah I wouldn’t expect more than 10 songs being played for each artist, with those around them just mentioned in the run down.

Even then her album didn’t have the take over that the other rappers have shown despite the chart success in comparison. In the long run it will do better thanks to the singles, the most successful of which in the UK is not exactly urban.

I think it is in part due to her being female in a MASSIVELY male dominated genre. Nicki does also play a bit more with pop music (though I would say this is her least pop album to date), which doesn’t appeal to that demographic.

Do you have the YTD position for the Mamma Mia 1 soundtrack (based on what sales you know since it has charted this year). Thanks in advance. Mamma Mia 2 should be top 5 in a fortnight (depending on Drake’s sales)!

I am expecting Q4 to be pretty quiet as well (compared to normal) tbh. Can’t think of any big releases confirmed for Q4.

Definitely Echo for me. Was the most cohesive sollection of songs followed by I Am for me. Spirit has the best singles, but there are plenty of throwaway album tracks too, which put it below the albums mentioned above for me.

It’s very poignant and her most personal, but best song honour still belongs to Body Say

Yeah I am thinking Youth as the next single to get a push here. Kinda feel the moment has passed with nervous now, with the video being out for so long, but would love to be wrong. Hoping he can at least break 100k this year.

New acts are breaking through still, but you don’t see them getting debut number ones like in the past, which I think was Grandwicky’s point. Getting minor/moderate hits doesn’t make you a household name, unlike when Jessie j, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry all did with their first couple tracks as a few examples. As much as I miss seeing those, I don’t feel the material from the new acts has been as strong. I also prefer the gradual progression of songs. Looks a bit more natural to grow as public interest develops.

Better In Time resonates with me the most, followed by Collide. Forgive Me would be the lowest by a country mile for me. It is the odd one out with regards to all the songs Leona has released as lead artist. The lyrics just don’t fit Leona, so never felt like there is any genuine conviction behind it. It is just Leona singing a song they thought would please the US market (where it didn’t even end up getting a single release :/).

So why is Britney climbing?

Hardly any of the albums it ‘blocked’ have sustained decent sales after so not really deserving #1’s. I can’t see them getting to #1 would have made much impact on the sales. 100% for it being in the album chart. TGS’ success is just an anomaly, not the standard for the format. If anything, it has encouraged people to keep buying albums in consistent numbers so long, which is clearly good for the industry.

That’s weird. I guess there must have been a tweak to the rules when they made the other changes. The Greatest Showman is still in so clearly not a ban on all soundtracks in the main chart
