Looks like Alicia Keys' Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready) has separate certifications for the solo album version and the single version with Drake. The solo version was certified silver in April 2024, so overall has at least 400k units across the two.

Not saying more than ever, but it being a Friday night helps - both for chart purposes (main point) and those who will party tonight. It was a Thursday last year, so had more Halloween events on the weekend before, but it is basically happening at the start of this weekend without worrying about it being a school night.

1 November falling on a weekend will definitely help the Xmas songs, but then the chart will also have more of a Halloween effect than last year. There are also several albums taking up space at the top end of a chart which won’t die anytime soon. Think those will be more of an issue for Xmas takeover than a quiet release week. Rooting for something from Cat Burns album to pick up steam this week.

Very much this for me. Album feels like an experience that needs to be listened to in whole and in order. Not sure I would want to cherry pick songs and listen to them outside of the album, unlike most other albums which don’t have a start to finish narrative. On the flip side, I think that does restrict how well any one song can do on its own. Nothing on the album sounds like a standalone hit. For example, I don’t think I would like pussy palace as much if I wasn’t familiar with everything leading up to the reveal in that song. Obviously the songs are doing well, but nothing I could see wracking the numbers to have a long chart life after the album hype calms down.

I am all here for Berghain to smash, especially if it gives Bjork another chart appearance. Thrilled for Lily with how well this album is doing. It feels like the momentum is still behind it and has room to build more. Considering Lily previously said she earned more money from feet pics than Spotify, I wonder if that will still be the case after this week. 😄

I believe this certification just represents dear mr presidents sales/streams + the physical sales for the double a side it was the lead song on. Leave Me Alone (I’m Lonely) was actually certified silver in 2021 with no reference to Dear Mr President, so already got to this stage years back.

I think this makes more sense for the US charts where they include airplay. That combined with streaming has led to the super long runs we have seen on the hot 100. As we don’t do that here (thank goodness), then ACR works well. As annoying as it is seeing Mr Brightside, Iris and the various Fleetwood Mac songs hovering around, they aren’t really blocking anything from becoming a hit. Might help something go top 75 rather than top 100, but that isn’t going to improve its visibility beyond us chart followers. Christmas songs are more of a concern as they do go top 40, which does get more visibility. Unless more is done by artists/labels to push new music again in November/December, then a chart tweak alone won’t really do much to change listening habits, which is the bigger issue here. Last year felt like there was more going on then with That’s So True being the notable example, so hopefully a sign labels haven’t completely given up on that period yet.

Hot ‘n’ Cold now ahead of I Kissed A Girl as the biggest song from One Of The Boys. Definitely aged better out of the two, though I do have a soft spot for the IKAG rock remix.

Rooting for Pinkpantheress to stay top 40 and Golden declining again so it goes to ACR - both looking unlikely.

Olivia so close to top 10! Hopefully she can still make it once Taylor fever calms down. Glad to see Nice To Each Other and So Easy sneaking in. Was probably the last opportunity for NTEO. RAYE needs to keep climbing and Teddy Swims needs to go.

It does force those relying on downloads to buy the album, which I think was smart here. Downloads wouldn’t really have any significant effect on how well the songs chart and encourage cherry picking instead of investing in the album as a whole.

What a week for Olivia Dean! 3 golds and a platinum. New album will no doubt go silver next week too.

Baby Steps seems to be taking off globally on Spotify. Was an immediate stand out to me so pleased this is the album track that is looking to have sustained success after release week.

Agreed. Every song delivers. I just wish it was a bit longer, but I suppose the short length has encouraged me to replay this more than I may have otherwise.

You can hardly blame RAYE here when she hasn't promoted Escapism. People have been enjoying the new single and sought out her previous material like we have seen with the old Olivia Dean songs blowing up after Man I Need's success. The Spotify chart all week has shown how well Escapsim has done lately. It is almost top 50 on Spotify on the most recent update.

Didn’t Jack say on a previous week that 12 to 12 was his favourite song in the chart?

Thrilled RAYE has been able to start off so strong. Looking like WIMH could become quite a stable hit.

Here’s hoping Olivia can sustain that level of lead over Golden on Spotify for the rest of the week. Really hope this is her week. Yay at RAYE rebounding. Far exceeded my expectations already.

Miley scraped top 100 with Secrets, which was better than I expected. Here’s hoping it can hold on, if not climb.
