  1. Well even though Rita has equalled Geri, It'll be a hell of a long time before a british female solo act or any female solo artist for that matter is able to have four consecutive no.1 singles and she still has accounted 10 no.1s throughout her career with the Spice Girls and Solo. I would hardly call AMLT and Run "ground breaking" they were both glorified covers :P and i personally find her voice rather irritating :o (Awaits tons of abuse). Besides if anyone should deserve to have 4 no.1s its Adele, its a surprise she hasn't had more than 1 tbh.
  2. Yeah I kind of see what you mean, yes the chart would be more stale but it would reflect more of what is popular than it does currently as I think as the charts at the moment aren't most of the time reflective of what is popular due to all these held back releases, and having songs struggling to sell upwards of 200k in total after hitting no.1 and having songs not even making the top 10 selling double or even three times that amount is really quite pathetic. Wasn't there a UK Billboard chart that someone used to do, I loved to read it as it was interesting to see how the chart would look, I would do it myself but have no idea how they add airplay figures to sales in a chart.
  3. I was always against the opinion of streaming or any change to the UK charts but I do think now the chart needs a change, especially if streaming is catching up with digital sales, although i do think the fall in sales has been in part due to lack of music variety and these stupid held back releases. But including streaming I think would make the charts more variable to different varieties for example a lot of indie/rock acts seem to do pretty well on spotify, Arctic Monkeys had 3 releases in the top 20 at one point on the spotify chart, which could have meant that DIWK would have gone top 10 and the follow up top 5 possibly had the sales been included depending on the ratio of course. It will be interesting to see how they split the sales though, I doubt streaming would affect the chart too much in its own right but it could make subtle differences the further down the chart you go, but I can't see it being like 2008 when we had 4-5 week no.1s and really static top 10's when the downloads really started coming into force. Personally I think adding airplay would be a brilliant idea, does anyone know how they calculate the billboard airplay into the hot 100 out of interest?

I have to ask as this has been bugging me for months but I'm still confused as to how an earth this is his third no.1 and third million seller. He doesn't sing at all on Blurred Lines, he only produced and co-wrote it and appeared in the video and I can't see why that should count as a no.1 for him? Though its still incredible that he's had a hand in three massive million selling no.1 hits i just see in my eyes that he's had two no.1s not three :S (Apologies for going off topic)

I'd agree that Moves Like Jagger is one of the most unluckiest no.2s ever. 7 weeks at No.2 behind 6 different No.1s which in the end it outsold all of them (some of them by nearly 4 times as much!) Same thing happened the year before with Eminem.
  6. I don't like it as much as Bodies although it did have had strange lyrics. But this is an incredibley damn catchy song although i dont like the chorus but the rest of the song does suit Robbie very well, I'm hoping his album is going to be better than the last three. Think this is going to finally get him his 7th No.1 at last, looking at the release schedule its looking pretty quiet that week so he should have no problem clashing with another big release like Bodies and Shame did.
  7. I think this Album's success has several factors; 1. The Album's Story: Its an album about a really bitter breakup with someone who she thought was her Mr Right and how it really tore her up, a lot of people can relate to that and as she's such a down to earth person its just captured the imagination of the public even more. There isn't many other albums that have been released lately that can say they have done that. 2. Delivery: Ok anyone can write a powerful break up song or sing one with a good voice but Adele really belts out these songs, particularly on RITD and you can hear the emotion coming into the song and with Someone Like You. The Brits performance is another perfect example where she had to fight back tears at the end of the song because it was so personal to her and she really connected with the song, not many artists can do that and sound convincing and she did in front of Millions of people. 3. Plus in an era where all music is just this generic mix of dance/rap/r'n'b/electric/pop that all sounds the same and repetitive, its almost made it unique in that sense. She's had more of an impact than i think people will realise, she's proved you don't have to go on a stupid talent contest to become successful, nor have someone write you your songs but that you can become a star in your own right no matter how you look and have a greater success and that's what people will find inspiring. The timing and promotion of the Albums release also helped with it having an entire calender year ahead of it and mothers day of course. Still i think its brilliant and fascinating that an Album released in this day and age has managed to do this well it is incredible.

I still think its criminal that One direction won an award for best single when they didn't even co-write the song. Best Single should be given to best song written by an artist or at least co-written. Also there just isn't enough awards, particularly for international artists they should have the same amount for British and International artists. I miss the Best Rock act, Pop act live act ect awards. Best video is another one that should be reinstated. The most awards an act can win now is just 3, 4 if your a new act that broken through in the last 12 months. I can remember the days when an act could get up to 6 nominations although nobody ever won that many but still. Rant over lol
  9. Growing up in the 90's particularly 96 - 99 was fantastic for music. So much variety there was something for everyone, whether it was rock/britpop, pop (cheesy pop), dance, trance, rap, hip-hop, r&b even country music was pretty big in the 90's i seem to remember more so than it is now, its not surprising to see how big sales where on albums and singles during that part of the decade. I also miss the massive 200k first week sales with the really popular songs. I also have another soft spot for 2004 - 2006 when the indie explosion got going and albums sales where really high although singles did suffer massively which is the downside. 2008 -2009 also due to fact that the downloads meant that for a change the most popular song in the UK in most given weeks would be no.1 rather than some generic crap that's been held back for weeks, also the songs that were no.1 were there for 2 - 4 weeks and single sales were on the rise. I also liked how songs climbed to no.1 it made a nice change from singles entering at no.1

This has No.1 written all over it, i really can see it doing a Telephone and suddenly sky-rocketing up the charts. I must admit i used to hate Rihanna but her new look, sound and her dirty minx attitude is very appealing lol :P
  11. British - Want & Think - Take That International - Want & Think - B.E.P Take That have to win this, they in my opinion are one of the best acts this country has and Progress has been massive. Although i do really like Mumford as well. The Black Eyed Peas i think were robbed of this last year as they dropped it for some stupid best of the 30 year awards and they would have won it hands down,(why they have dropped many other decent awards over the years i dont know). But for that reason i think and want them to win but i think KOL could possibly steal it.
  12. British - Think - Tinie - Want - Tinie/Mumford and Sons International - Think - Bruno Mars - Want - Bruno Mars I think Tinie is going to clean sweep this year and i do think he deserves it. But i do like Mumford and Sons so i wouldnt mind if they did. I really cant see Bieber winning, Bruno is too huge atm
  13. I think and want it to be Tinie Tempah other than Flo along with dynamite they are the only decent ones there. I'm very shocked Take That were not nominated as that song has been everywhere the last few months, i think they would have won it if they had been. I agree about the x-factor winner single being nominated, it does make a mockery of the whole award. Firstly it only sold masses because of the show and the hype around it. Its now plummeting out of the charts. Secondly the song is a quick, cheap cover version, surely this award should go to the best original song and not cover versions. Thirdly - i think its only been nominated to shut simon cowell up as he always moans as nobody from xfactor ever wins an award.

I think they'll do around 400k - 500k this week, not sure whether they'll keep up the sales till xmas but i reckon around 1.8Million by then and around just over 2 million in total maybe 2.5 in total depending on what singles they release and of course the tour next summer.
  15. I think TT have a chance to possibly pip JLS to the top spot but i think JLS have it in the bag. I really do hope TT can net the No.1 spot it would make my year them doing the double and beating JLS & Westlife there in the process...i can dream lol
  16. They've only done one song with Robbie and Gaz on lead vocals as a single, yes ok they did a duet but its not like they done loads of songs. I've only heard 30 second clips of the album and its very electro-pop and quite 80's like in bits very different from the ballad style of the last two albums, its good they are trying something new.
  17. I'm pretty sure Mcfly have had 2 Download No.1s (All About You and Star Girl) and were on top of the itunes chart both times? forgive me if i'm wrong. Still to see them at No.4 is pretty good. Are TT actually in front of Ri then? does anyone have any sales figures or by how much they are in front by if they are? I really hope they can clinch the top spot by the weekend.

To be fair i don't think JLS would have stood a chance in an Album chart battle with TT, they may have beaten them in the singles but it would have been very close, i had thought if TT pulled off an epic performance on X factor then they would have possibly clinched it. I think they will beat the X factor song easily, as they have The Flood on pre-order as well, both will do over 100k i reckon. Westlife moving their release date doesn't surprise me, though if they think they will beat JLS i think they better think again i can see them struggling to go top 3. TT could well stay at no.1 for the rest of the year like the circus did. Though i don't know what i'd like to have seen more TT giving Westlife a good pasting or giving JLS a good thrashing

I must say i think The Flood is an epic song, brilliant! It wasn't what i was expecting them to come out with at all. I think this could seriously challenge JLS for the no.1 single as well that week especially if they perform on X Factor. It will be interesting to see what the albums like.

Mike Posner is another one i think to watch out for possibly, I think Cooler Than Me will either be a big Top 3 hit or do a Tik Tok and stay in the top then for months, his follow up is quite similar as well
  21. Supercell posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Well I wouldn't put it past JLS to pull a fast one like last year but then again they only just managed to beat Robbie last year despite it being rammed down everyone's throats that they had released their album that week and having multiple copies and with an X Factor appearance the Sunday before that would have given them a boost. I think if TT's The Flood is a good strong single they will hopefully sell by the bucketload and maybe have The Circus style first week sales. But if its quite weak then it could go down to the wire like last year, then again i don't know lol I wasn't convinced Robbie would win last year either.

I think next year will be the year of Dubstep as it has grown alot over the year. Will be interesting to see how B.E.P and Gaga perform next year with new material and also with no X Factor, the October to December period will certainly be interesting as will how all the contestants past and present perform without having the show to boost their sales. I still hold out hope maybe next year indie/rock may finally make a comeback but i wont hold my breath lol.
  23. 20th September: Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are 27th September: Tinie Tempah - Written In The Stars (Labrinth No.2) 4th October: Cee Lo Green - F*** You (Robbie & Gary No.2) 11th October: This week i think will be close but if Rob and Gary perform on Xfactor they may just about clinch the No.1 Spot with Joe at No.2. 18th October: The Wanted - Heart Vacancy (Joe No.2) 25th October: Cheryl Cole - Promise This (B.O.B No.2) 1st November: Nadine - Insatiable (Cheryl No.2) I'm still not 100% about this going to No.1 8th November: Tinchy Stryder & Taio Cruz - Second Chance (Rihanna No.2) 15th November: JLS - Love you More (Rihanna No.2) 22nd November: Duffy - Well Well Well (JLS?) That's My Prediction for the moment, I think it will be a struggle for any act to make it two weeks like it was this time last year although thanks to massive sales Cheryl managed a 2 week run, on the plus we could see some very high single sales in the top ten over the coming months.
