I personally think this is good idea having a new music show thats not on all the time and will hopefully have some diversity of genres. The problem I think with TOTP was that it was on every week, the format of the show didn't change very much and remained corny and cheesy with people miming to their current hits, people grew tired of, it I know I did and I was still a teenager when it was cancelled.

Amazing to see Shania topping both the UK and US album charts simultaneously. Think this is the first time she's managed that feat given Come On Over somehow never got to no.1 in the states.

Noel's version of "She Bangs" is probably the best song he's churned out in the entire of his solo career. Don't want to like it as I cant stand the bloke but its super catchy.

I must admit it that Shape Of You's sales are probably fairly inflated from repeat listening, although it did have the stormzy version added to its totals which the OCC have never done as far as I'm aware for any other songs that have a remix/different version (aka Florence & Dizzze Rascal, Sam Smith) but for some reason they bent the rules for SOY. Anyway the ratios they have, especially the 300:1 ratio, are just a chart manipulation rule because record labels are not happy they cant force something to no.1 like the "good old days". So it would be pointless trying to accrue sales from that point, even though I can see what you mean, it just illustrates how much of a mess the singles chart is on a weekly basis at the moment. Also music week have updated some of this years biggest hits. Was hoping Wolf Alice would nab the no.1 album as I wasn't expecting Shania to do that well, given the singles have been a flop and its been such a gap between albums. But now she's aiming for no.1 I'd love her to snatch it, she looks like achieving the same feat stateside. Amazing for someone who's been absent for 15 years and a country-pop act at that.

Having let it play out a few weeks I'm still not fond of the new rules. Granted its nice to see more movement but it takes the merit out of songs managing new peaks at the expensive of a more popular song being penalised and doesn't really represent a chart of any means. It's made a few more songs go top 10 but I don't feel its made a massive change, the no.1 single most weeks would have been there without ACR being in place. I do think there's more fair ways of making a more fluid moving chart but these rules are just a mess and are the occ caving into the whining of the record labels some of which are just not impressed they can't manipulate the chart the way they have done for the past 20 odd years. I won't go into it too much as I feel I've ranted about it loads of times, but if they did base streams off individual accounts / family accounts ect and put a permanent cap in place, that would probably have the same affect as ACR but it would be applied to all songs and create a fair playing field. It would have stopped songs like SOY being no.1 for 14 weeks but given it massive sales for the first, maybe second week. Also it could be used as a more effective tool of measuring track equivalent sales from streaming as it wouldn't be taking into account the repetitive listening, which in all fairness the way the occ have it currently does eliminate some of that but not entirely. Again something a lot have complained about not just in the millionaires thread but also on the comments on the occ website about the news story.

Yeah i'd like to back this up, although I'm not wanting to give a slap haha. They were phenomenal for a time, all four of their singles off that album reached no1 and sold over 600k each, three of them over 950k. Not many artists have managed that feat and it was a harder to achieve back when singles had a shelf life of 3/4 months, rather than infinite potential. To then have an album sell as it did alongside two of those singles, with both 2 become 1 and Spice shifting 400k each in one week over Christmas was/is huge. Anyway, aside from that I'm sure Coldplay's Paradise is actually a million seller? Wasn't it prevented from charting for several weeks due to the promotional single rules back at the time and therefore actually not having its sales counted. They may have added it on since but I'm sure it shifted between 20-40k before it was made chart eligible which would make it an million seller on downloads if it hasn't been counted. I do love this all time list but do think it would be interesting/good practice if they had a separate list for the digital era, i.e downloads/streaming. As that would show more evenly how songs have rated the past 10-15 years. And as others have pointed out, draws a more fair comparison to the Physical chart era.

Oh wow! Loving this list this is amazing!! Seems the The OCC have finally done away with their ridiculous stance on sales and finally accepting TES as the new modern sales units. Although the amount of million sellers now is just crazy and Ed Sheeran being third is quite hilarious. 8 million sellers to his name is even more eyebrow raising. I wonder if they will change the certifications at any point. Going back to platinum being given to songs that shift a million units seems fairly reasonable given its happening fairly frequently and has been doing so since the start of the decade. Also a nice surprise to see Adele actually has 3 million sellers in old money, 4 including streaming.

Nice to see P!nk still holding up, hoping if she has an xf performance it may finally be within shot of no.1, as I still have a hunch she will eventually get there. Sam Smith looking safe for a second week at no.1.

The ACTUAL original though was more rhythmic (and better in my opinion). It came out between "Latch" and "La La La" in early 2013. Yeah that's the version I first heard and downloaded. Oddly it seems to have vanished off itunes now and its not available on Spotify (from what I've seen)

She's getting close to 1 million combined units for TDIMM. Nice to see she has three songs over 400k. Come On Over definitely does deserve those sales, its a very solid album all the way through. Country pop crossover at its finest imo. She stood out massively to everything else at the time, It was the first time I was introduced to country music, albeit with a pop/rock undertone. It was TDIMM that made the album sales sky rocket from what I remember, but given she'd had two very popular wedding style hits prior to that it just became a word of mouth success. To be fair most of the biggest selling albums in the UK are fuelled by one big hit and a follow up of other popular hits.

So Lay Me Down has actually shifted over a million units when the two versions are combined. My favourite of his by far and was the first solo song I heard from him on the Nirvana ep. Irritating the OCC have no consistency, they combined Ed's version of SOY with Stormzy with the original, whilst these two versions weren't.

Sam's song isn't that bad but its not the best either. Granted he's played it a bit too safe but there's been far worse comeback singles this year. Zayn & Sia's song is annoyingly good. I've never liked any of his stuff especially that one he did with taylor which sounds like two alley cats screeching. But can see this one being a slow burning hit. Love to see what radio1 call Tove Lo's song if its playlisted :lol:

Ah didn't realise Sam Smith was releasing tomorrow. In that case I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to no.1, he'll have fairly decent download sales at least.

84.4 Million streams, what is that equivalent to in downloads out of interest? 844k? Not sure if they convert them to sales like the OCC do with the UK chart. If that is the case, with downloads added that's a mind blowing set of first week sales units!

Going to be close next week should nothing else big be released, Taylor may struggle to hold on given she's now fallen behind P!nk on downloads and Dua on streaming. Either P!nk or Dua are within a chance next week or even Megan McKenna :lol:

I always thought Pillowtalk had shifted over a million units? Maybe I had imagined it haha. Not surprised to see Cheryl at the top. I wonder how some of the older songs would have sold if single sales had been what they are now/the last few years. Thanks for putting this together Gezza :)

Look At Me was such an underrated bit of jazzy pop for what it was at the time. Was gutted when she was beat to No.1, she was by far my favourite from the group. I've always thought that Geri did muck up her solo career at the time by continuing with a fairly cheesy pop sound, she would have suited her jazzy pop sound that she had for Look At Me and Goodnight Kiss a lot better. Look At Me and Mi Chico Latino were both quite strong first singles, but the follow ups are quite cringey and haven't aged very well (apart from Its Raining Men). But still having four consecutive no.1s is a feat no female solo artist has thus far matched, though I think going with Pete Waterman was what killed her career off in the long run. Mel C's team pulled an amazing rollout of her debut album and after Geri she was my second favourite from the group. I liked all of the singles from Northern Star which they seemed to save the best till later in the era and was a very solid album. Never Be The Same Again, to me is the song that summaries the demise of the group and it all falling apart and perfectly captures what was going on with them all at the time. One of the best songs from all of the solo releases. Her follow up albums though I wasn't a fan of but both Northern Star and Geri's first two albums are the only Spice Girl solo albums I actually got. Victoria was and always has been a target from the press. Out Of Your Mind was an absolute corker of a song and I loved NSAIG when that was released as well. Had both that and the album been released in 2000 after OOYM she may have faired a lot better than she did. Also really liked her brief comeback in 2003, Let Your Head Go was a great bit a of dance pop. Emma's early solo material I thought was really bland and boring, but her second album was much better and did stand out from other pop music at the time. Mel B's solo stuff was terrible, didn't like any of her solo material at all.

I reckon she could well easily land herself her first no.1, especially given Dua's only shifting around 40k so it wont take a huge amount to get there. She could shift 100k plus in week 1 if she comes back with an absolute smash but I don't think she will. She's never been close to the success Ed has had in the UK so thats not really a good comparison at all. All of his albums have shifted 2 million for starters. I think Ellie Goulding is a more an even match if you were to compare her to an act, but given both Ellie's no.1s were held back for several weeks they had naturally massive first week sales. Stateside though Taylor is as big there as Ed is here so she'll easily storm to no.1 with massive first week sales.s I went for her being no.1, she could do up to 60-80k maybe, but they'll be steady sales in the long run. I think she's being overestimated somewhat.

Think 2013 was the last time I liked more than 50% of the no.1s.

Hard to gauge without hearing what Justin's song sounds like. But Its going be pretty hard for him to miss no.1 given everything he releases seems to go there at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if he does something similar to WDYM in that he might have several stints at no.1 with perhaps Taylor, Clean Bandit, Sam Smith sneaking in a week here and there. I can see Mi Gente becoming a big hit in the coming weeks as well. I really hope this is the start of a busy Q4 with lots of blockbuster releases, its been years since we've had a nice proper busy run up to Christmas.
