Band Aid 30 - Do They Know It's Christmas?
I actually quite like this version, I'd rank it behind the original still but its better than the other two. The last one just sounded a mess I thought at times, this one has echo's of the original towards the end and is nice and stripped back, glad it hasn't turned out to be a dance version of the original as i thought they may have done. I don't see the point that some have made about that it should have been held back just so it would sound better, the original was done the exact same way and is a classic and didn't sound rushed. By releasing it this way they've got a longer period for the song to sell well and raise more money. Will be interesting to see how it does, i have an inkling its not going to be a huge as everyone thinks it will could be wrong though, i thought the same about the last one and was proven wrong. Really do hope it nabs the Xmas No.1 from X-Factor, its about time we had an actual Christmassy no.1 and its all for a good cause which makes it all the more better.

Sunday Chart Predictions (Friday Update + Sales)
Surprised that Calvin hasn't had a more stronger lead all week but I guess people have decided to cherry pick Outside rather than buy the whole album, I can't understand why they showcased the song on youtube and then chose to release open wide instead prior to album release. Really hoping for some miracle that will allow Ed to cling on at no.1 for a second week but it looks unlikely.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 2nd November 2014
Love the song and the John Lewis advert but doubt it will actually top the charts as much as i'd love it to. The charts for once look like being pretty active during the rest of November, its best chance will be the week before the usual x-factor no.1. Glad that Ed is finally caught up with Cheryl but I doubt he'll hold her off the no1 spot would be great if he somehow manages to

Are pre-orders fair?
Its been advertised far more widely this year and nearly every song that gets released now has a pre-order, whereas before songs were either just held back a few weeks or released on air on sale, except for a select few who would do the ep thing as you mentioned. Its partly why we've had so many no.1s this year as they hold back the releases and get everyone to pre-order for maximum first week impact, but they loose sales in the run up to the release as people won't want to wait that long to get their hands on it. Comparing to last year, sales were quite noticeably lower before streaming came in and the only comparable difference I can see is pre-orders becoming more popular so that why I came to that conclusion, theres obviously other factors as well. The main point I was trying to make though was that pre-orders don't really work the same way they used too and they loose sales because people find other means of getting hold of the music they want rather than wait 5-6 weeks for it and they make the charts boring :)
-
Are pre-orders fair?
I personally think the whole pre-order thing is ridiculous, it makes the charts boring and predictable and caused a big drop in sales this year until streaming was added. I know its how things worked up until downloads really took off but thats the point. Back in the 90's, for the majority you couldn't get hold of music another other way than actually buying it from a shop when it got released so you had no choice but to wait. But now there just is absolutely no point in holding a song back for 4-6 weeks when people can just download it anywhere, also in the day and age we live in now people don't want to wait to buy things as soon as they see them and thats how music should be people should be allowed to buy a song as soon as its released to radio and not have to wait for several weeks for it. Rant over lol.

Avicii featuring Robbie Williams - The Days
Didn't realise it was Robbie on the first listen as i heard it from Radio 1. Stupid how they don't credit him on this as he's got to be the biggest artist he's collaborated with, plus if this goes to no.1 Robbie will miss out on an 8th chart topper :/

Below-average years for chart music
I can't comment on the 90's so much as i only remember from 96 onwards and they were all fab in my opinion, there was something for everyone and there was a real mix mash of all types of music, although cheesy pop dominated towards the end and most the really huge songs actually spent several weeks at no.1. Something that just doesn't happen anymore. From the 2000's it has to be 2007, followed by 2002. I had really got into the Indie music scene the year before and in 2007 we were left with rap/urban domination and very little else. 2003 had a similar theme but I found the urban scene then a lot more better and funky plus there was some brilliant punk rock, rock music around as well. The Umbrella's 10 week stint annoyed the hell out of me as well. 2008 I actually liked as there was a bit more variety and despite the charts being slow it was nice to actually see the chart reflect what was actually popular at the time, there wasn't very many fluky no.1s that year which was great. Of the 2010's it has to be this year although 2012 wasn't great. This year has been very boring and predictable for the charts with it being more about who can get the most pre-orders rather than whats actually popular but combined with quite a poor music scene its just made the year terrible I feel. If I was to pick the best years from the 00's and '10's then it would have to be; 2006 and 2011. Both brilliant years.

Radio 1 • Track of the Day
Absolutely love this! Sounds like something Adele would come out with as a comeback song, really hope this smashes its way to no.1 I can see it being huge with the right airplay think it will be a grower on the chart though

Streaming to be included in the UK Official Chart: CONFIRMED
Ah lovely that clears that up for me :) yeah sorry forgot the conversion factor but thats what i thought it was but then i read something that suggested otherwise. So we could see a lot of the poor selling hits from tis year getting a sort of new lease of life in terms of sales then which is good.

Streaming to be included in the UK Official Chart: CONFIRMED
I'm a bit confused about the sales from when it changes as i thought that streaming sales were to be added to single sales totals. Are streaming sales going to be counted as total sales for songs now along with the downloads or will they have their own sales separately? I.e. Calvin Harris's summer sells for example 350,000 downloads and 50,000 streams would that make his official sales total 400,000 or just 350,000?

Streaming to be included in the UK Official Chart: CONFIRMED
So glad they are adding this to the chart it will help revive some of the poor sales for all the one week no.1s we've had that would have sold a lot more had they not been held back for so long, Calvin Harris looks to do quite well from this seeing as summer is still quite high as is sing seeing as its sales have plummeted. But looking back over this years no.1s to say it the changes would only be felt further down the charts it actually would have meant we wouldn't have had four months of 1 week no.1s if streaming had been included at the start of the year. Route 94 were pipped to a second week at no.1 by 5,000 sales but on Spotify that week they would have had an extra 5,600 sales just about allowing them to just about be no1 for a second week. Then Mr Probz which after rather be has had very persistent high weekly streams would have had an extra 10,000 sales to put him ahead of Calvin giving him three weeks. Also Sam Smith would have just about clinched a second week ahead of second city. Also I can see theres a couple of songs already on spotify that will chart before the digital version is released, Nico & Vinz being the main example. This I think is a good way forward and gets round the held back release rubbish and i can see a lot of labels maybe following this tactic allowing the song to build up on spotify then release the single so a song could sell 30-60k before its officially released and help boost sales in the long run and as It becomes more popular the bigger the sales will become.

Which UK Female Will Tie Geri Haliwell's No 1 record first?
Well even though Rita has equalled Geri, It'll be a hell of a long time before a british female solo act or any female solo artist for that matter is able to have four consecutive no.1 singles and she still has accounted 10 no.1s throughout her career with the Spice Girls and Solo. I would hardly call AMLT and Run "ground breaking" they were both glorified covers :P and i personally find her voice rather irritating :o (Awaits tons of abuse). Besides if anyone should deserve to have 4 no.1s its Adele, its a surprise she hasn't had more than 1 tbh.

Streaming to be included in the UK Official Chart: CONFIRMED
Yeah I kind of see what you mean, yes the chart would be more stale but it would reflect more of what is popular than it does currently as I think as the charts at the moment aren't most of the time reflective of what is popular due to all these held back releases, and having songs struggling to sell upwards of 200k in total after hitting no.1 and having songs not even making the top 10 selling double or even three times that amount is really quite pathetic. Wasn't there a UK Billboard chart that someone used to do, I loved to read it as it was interesting to see how the chart would look, I would do it myself but have no idea how they add airplay figures to sales in a chart.

Streaming to be included in the UK Official Chart: CONFIRMED
I was always against the opinion of streaming or any change to the UK charts but I do think now the chart needs a change, especially if streaming is catching up with digital sales, although i do think the fall in sales has been in part due to lack of music variety and these stupid held back releases. But including streaming I think would make the charts more variable to different varieties for example a lot of indie/rock acts seem to do pretty well on spotify, Arctic Monkeys had 3 releases in the top 20 at one point on the spotify chart, which could have meant that DIWK would have gone top 10 and the follow up top 5 possibly had the sales been included depending on the ratio of course. It will be interesting to see how they split the sales though, I doubt streaming would affect the chart too much in its own right but it could make subtle differences the further down the chart you go, but I can't see it being like 2008 when we had 4-5 week no.1s and really static top 10's when the downloads really started coming into force. Personally I think adding airplay would be a brilliant idea, does anyone know how they calculate the billboard airplay into the hot 100 out of interest?

Happy vs. Blurred Lines
I have to ask as this has been bugging me for months but I'm still confused as to how an earth this is his third no.1 and third million seller. He doesn't sing at all on Blurred Lines, he only produced and co-wrote it and appeared in the video and I can't see why that should count as a no.1 for him? Though its still incredible that he's had a hand in three massive million selling no.1 hits i just see in my eyes that he's had two no.1s not three :S (Apologies for going off topic)

Unluckiest #2's?
I'd agree that Moves Like Jagger is one of the most unluckiest no.2s ever. 7 weeks at No.2 behind 6 different No.1s which in the end it outsold all of them (some of them by nearly 4 times as much!) Same thing happened the year before with Eminem.

Predict: Robbie Williams - "Candy"
I don't like it as much as Bodies although it did have had strange lyrics. But this is an incredibley damn catchy song although i dont like the chorus but the rest of the song does suit Robbie very well, I'm hoping his album is going to be better than the last three. Think this is going to finally get him his 7th No.1 at last, looking at the release schedule its looking pretty quiet that week so he should have no problem clashing with another big release like Bodies and Shame did.

Adele's 21 outsells Morning Glory in the UK
I think this Album's success has several factors; 1. The Album's Story: Its an album about a really bitter breakup with someone who she thought was her Mr Right and how it really tore her up, a lot of people can relate to that and as she's such a down to earth person its just captured the imagination of the public even more. There isn't many other albums that have been released lately that can say they have done that. 2. Delivery: Ok anyone can write a powerful break up song or sing one with a good voice but Adele really belts out these songs, particularly on RITD and you can hear the emotion coming into the song and with Someone Like You. The Brits performance is another perfect example where she had to fight back tears at the end of the song because it was so personal to her and she really connected with the song, not many artists can do that and sound convincing and she did in front of Millions of people. 3. Plus in an era where all music is just this generic mix of dance/rap/r'n'b/electric/pop that all sounds the same and repetitive, its almost made it unique in that sense. She's had more of an impact than i think people will realise, she's proved you don't have to go on a stupid talent contest to become successful, nor have someone write you your songs but that you can become a star in your own right no matter how you look and have a greater success and that's what people will find inspiring. The timing and promotion of the Albums release also helped with it having an entire calender year ahead of it and mothers day of course. Still i think its brilliant and fascinating that an Album released in this day and age has managed to do this well it is incredible.

Brits
I still think its criminal that One direction won an award for best single when they didn't even co-write the song. Best Single should be given to best song written by an artist or at least co-written. Also there just isn't enough awards, particularly for international artists they should have the same amount for British and International artists. I miss the Best Rock act, Pop act live act ect awards. Best video is another one that should be reinstated. The most awards an act can win now is just 3, 4 if your a new act that broken through in the last 12 months. I can remember the days when an act could get up to 6 nominations although nobody ever won that many but still. Rant over lol

Which period of chart history are you fascinated by?
Growing up in the 90's particularly 96 - 99 was fantastic for music. So much variety there was something for everyone, whether it was rock/britpop, pop (cheesy pop), dance, trance, rap, hip-hop, r&b even country music was pretty big in the 90's i seem to remember more so than it is now, its not surprising to see how big sales where on albums and singles during that part of the decade. I also miss the massive 200k first week sales with the really popular songs. I also have another soft spot for 2004 - 2006 when the indie explosion got going and albums sales where really high although singles did suffer massively which is the downside. 2008 -2009 also due to fact that the downloads meant that for a change the most popular song in the UK in most given weeks would be no.1 rather than some generic crap that's been held back for weeks, also the songs that were no.1 were there for 2 - 4 weeks and single sales were on the rise. I also liked how songs climbed to no.1 it made a nice change from singles entering at no.1

The Buzzjack Sunday Chart Show Thread
Just criminal that M5 have been denied the no.1 yet again! -_- Never known a song be no.2 for this long, it would be understandable if it was huge no.1 it had been stuck behind...

Rihanna - S&M
This has No.1 written all over it, i really can see it doing a Telephone and suddenly sky-rocketing up the charts. I must admit i used to hate Rihanna but her new look, sound and her dirty minx attitude is very appealing lol :P

BUZZJACK BRITS AWARDS 2011 POLL PREDICTAAA
British - Want & Think - Take That International - Want & Think - B.E.P Take That have to win this, they in my opinion are one of the best acts this country has and Progress has been massive. Although i do really like Mumford as well. The Black Eyed Peas i think were robbed of this last year as they dropped it for some stupid best of the 30 year awards and they would have won it hands down,(why they have dropped many other decent awards over the years i dont know). But for that reason i think and want them to win but i think KOL could possibly steal it.

BUZZJACK BRITS AWARDS 2011 POLL PREDICTAAA
British - Think - Tinie - Want - Tinie/Mumford and Sons International - Think - Bruno Mars - Want - Bruno Mars I think Tinie is going to clean sweep this year and i do think he deserves it. But i do like Mumford and Sons so i wouldnt mind if they did. I really cant see Bieber winning, Bruno is too huge atm

BUZZJACK BRITS AWARDS 2011 POLL PREDICTA.
I think and want it to be Tinie Tempah other than Flo along with dynamite they are the only decent ones there. I'm very shocked Take That were not nominated as that song has been everywhere the last few months, i think they would have won it if they had been. I agree about the x-factor winner single being nominated, it does make a mockery of the whole award. Firstly it only sold masses because of the show and the hype around it. Its now plummeting out of the charts. Secondly the song is a quick, cheap cover version, surely this award should go to the best original song and not cover versions. Thirdly - i think its only been nominated to shut simon cowell up as he always moans as nobody from xfactor ever wins an award.
