2024 Albums Year To Date Estimates
Album sales are doing a lot better this year, we’ve got already twice as many albums having cleared 200k compared to the last two years. We’ve had a bumper year for music which helps, but I get the feeling they are slowly lifting up in general.

Friday Chart Predictions
Glad to see DWAS up to No.2, hope they can keep ahead of Grace as it’s pretty tight on the streaming front. Nice to see Harlequin now too 10, still not sure how Happy Mistake hasn’t been more popular. Wasn’t expecting Heaton to be that far ahead in the mids, hopefully charli can claw it back, it deserves a week at the top.

Sympathy didn’t do as well as I thought on the first day but that’s a pretty sharp drop on the latest update. Gracie falling too so maybe Lady Mars might be in with a chance of lifting to No.2 by the end of the week.

I can see Sympathy debuting at no1 on Spotify tomorrow or at least No2. It’s much better than the original, and talk talk was imho too but it’s very hit and miss with the remixes I’m finding. The original club classics is a very underrated banger for me but the new one is awful. I’m guessing by the tracklisting it’s streaming is all being combined with the original version?

Friday Chart Predictions
Oh wow at Coldplay, thought they’d get six figures but not that much. I feel like the tour has helped with this a lot, not sure it’ll clear 200k and as already said, a steep drop next week. Good on them though, nice to see an act having huge first week sales. Lady Mars are so close to No2, I think No3 is possible but could even get a little higher. Next week if there is a clear out then then that might be the week to do it providing nothing else takes off. Hopefully Pink Pony Club can make the top 10 too.

Friday Chart Predictions
Lady Mars looking good for No3. Unless something big drops or suddenly takes off, I feel like they could climb again next week. Shame about Harlequin, I actually am a little surprised Happy Mistake hasn’t done much given how much all the fans have been raving about it and her flawless performance the other night. Hope hot to go can get a repeak, but might need ACR to come in although I feel like espresso is never going to get there at this rate.

Has 2024 been the most boring year in UK chart history?
I’m not sure I follow the initial thought of this thread, this year has been the pole opposite of boring. I think it’s been the best year musically and for the charts in over half a decade personally. The succession of big hits one after another in Q1/2, country / folk and pop all becoming popular has given more variety, it’s been like a breath of fresh air. Also the surprise comebacks and breakout success stories have made it interesting too. The only issue is how the charts are complied, same as 2016.Ironically I think ACR is the issue, because of its reset rules and loopholes it still allows for big hits to hang around for months. There’s more to be done and I agree you need something like ACR to start it off but it’s just not being executed well at all. The spring of this year though proved that we can still have moments of where the charts are active even in the streaming era.

The STATE of the album chart~
The obvious thing to do is to create different ratios for studio albums and greatest hits so they at least don’t clog up the top 10 by default on a quiet week. So either increase the ratio for greatest hits streaming conversions or decrease them for studio albums. As with most aspects of the charts the studio album side is a mess but I think perhaps following the model they use in Germany would be a good idea. No free streaming counts (which should be across the board to be frankly honest) and a certain amount of tracks have to be listened to in order for them all to count towards the weekly sale, maybe a percentage might work better. That way an album full of hit singles won’t just stay afloat unless people have streamed outside of the singles so it might be a better way of reflecting what’s actually popular.

Friday Chart Predictions
Ah finally Hot To Go is in the top 10! Really hope this holds and hopefully climbs further. I’m guessing RWS is top 40 somewhere? Also love to see Gaga/Mars holding at No7, I was worried it might have dipped but I guess now it’s streaming is picking up it might just hold on. A top 10 was what I was realistically hoping for and they could well do better than that next week if it keeps building momentum, fingers crossed it can challenge for No1 in the US next week.

Nice to see Gaga and Bruno climbing, decent boost in numbers too, perhaps being added to HH helped but it’s been climbing on Apple steadily too since the weekend. Hope they can gain more ground the next few days to snatch that top 10. It’s doing really well stateside, No.4 and No.1 on Spotify and Apple Music respectively.

So glad Gaga and Bruno are top 10, really hope they hold on till Friday! Fingers crossed if it’s streaming keeps creeping up it might manage it.

Loving that Chappel is taking off, her album is really growing on me at the moment. Also it’s great to see an album taking off organically, hopefully it can follow stick seasons success earlier in the year. I hope HTG and RWS both manage to break into the top 10/20 at some point.

Yes at Hot To Go finally breaking into the top 50. I really hope this continues to take off over the next few weeks. My favourite off the album although RWS is a close second.

Wow at Sabrina, she’s looking good for a second No1 next week if this holds up. Glad to see Chappell rising with RWS and HTG, the latter is so catchy does give me Hot and Cold vibes.

Rank Eminem's #1s
I feel like my finger slipped when picking my favourite. Godzilla sounds better than I remember, but it’s his comedy rap that I personally love about Eminem although Stan and Lose Yourself are epic. 1. Without Me (one of the few rap songs I know nearly every line to) 2. Lose Yourself 3. Stan 4. Real Slim Shady 5. Smack That (It’s surprising this is his only feature credit No1). 6. Monster 7. Houdini 8. Godzilla 9. Just Lose It 10. Like Toy Soldiers 11. River (I can barely remember how this goes).

It’s odd as I’ve not had espresso for weeks (not that auto play kicks in much for me) it’s been solidly billie every time for me personally. I might be wrong but I do wonder if it’s down to your listening habits to an extent as I’ve been listening to a lot of Lana or indie stuff lately, which Billies sounds closer to in comparison. Not saying there’s some payloa there but I do think it’s kind of linked to your music trends/habits to some extent.

Surprised at Eminems lead but unless it drops sharply on streaming numbers he’s looking good for the No1. It’s not his best but not his worst, I never realised he’s never been at no1 for longer than a week. Taylor looks like she will claim the No1 album again this week, was kind of hoping Billie might but she’s at a disadvantage streaming wise.

Billies streams have been a bit odd the last few days. I wonder if Sabrina has had a rebound following radio 1s big weekend or it could be the usual reasoning, that said Billie was coming out for me all weekend on autoplay. Shame though I thought she was going to climb up this week. I wouldn’t rule out stick season actually getting a second wind itself come the autumn given that’s when the song refers to. Plus isn’t it already ahead of where flowers was this time last year sales wise? And flowers did what 1.5/6 million units by year end?

I can’t help but think billie might get a streaming resurgence in the next week, it’s incredibly catchy. Sabrina seems to also be coming down too compared to the last few weeks. This year really has been a standout year for me, I think 2019 was the last time we had a run of fairly big hits during the spring and summer. I honestly think country and folk having a moment this year has been the biggest impact though, it’s created much more variety than we’ve had in a long time genre wise and it’s probably been more appealing to the masses than the dance/house/rap dominance we’ve had for a good 6 years or so now.

Brilliant opening for billie, I suspected too 3 for lunch but its streams are a little higher than I thought they would be. Would be great for it to challenge espresso but at the same time I’m not too bothered. I don’t think personally auto-play is having the big impact some think, it’s extremely catchy and summer vibed tune which has timed perfectly with the weather so I think it’s a big hit in its own right. I think a lot of it is down to the music you are listening to as Spotify often tries to match with your most recent listening habits, I haven’t heard it once from auto play this week and that’s from me listening to 00s pop music and it just suggested other 00s pop.

Yeah I get the feeling she will make a fairly decent splash. I reckon a top 3 debut for lunch potentially?

Yeah I would say it’s modern country pop, doesn’t sound that different to Morgan’s recent hits and I’d argue most modern country pop is quite similar in sound these days. Tbh I think the line between country, pop and other genres is more blurred these days anyway.

Blimey I can’t believe post and Morgan have gone straight in at no1 even more baffling it’s pulled those numbers, that’s insane. Could be on for a 2nd country no1 hit this year. This year is utterly mad for the number of songs that have taken off I’d say we’ve had the equivalent of the last two years combined and it’s only May. There’s been plenty of songs in recent weeks which if they’d been standalone hits last year and 2022 would have easily have spent 7-8 weeks at no.1 if not more.

Friday Chart Predictions
I’m not surprised at the those sales, as already mentioned it’s going to be close to Adele for the total but I would bet it might just get past 30s first week sales. Even with the restrictions on the streaming side, I can’t remember an album having 30k at this point in the week, guessing divide did? I tend to agree singles wise with what’s been said by a few with Hozier probably sneaking in at No2 or No3 come weeks end. Interesting it’s dropped off with streaming this week so much.

Predict: Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets Department
Ah I see, although I would like to think she probably will do a physical release at some point if it’s not in the week. Either way it’s going to have phenomenal sales and personally I’m more interested in her US figures as I think they will just be utterly insane (not that it won’t be very impressive UK wise).
