I voted 'no' as the contest has such a diverse selection of taste and a lot of participants. I was trying to think of a really wide-appealing winner and I seem to remember 'Tokyo' by White Lies getting a huge reach of voters for FARC? I was a rare participant who didn't point it, but then it ended up being a huge post-contest grower, so I regretted it - not that they needed my help so that was a synth-pop song with rock elements.

My connection to the Communards is that Richard Coles was the chancellor of my University, so he was at my graduation in 2018 I think Banderas being made up of Communards backing vocalists totally passed me by so that was fun to learn.

I hear the ‘Stupid Love’ comparisons, also the melody of the bridge is reminding me so much of ‘Home’ by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros!

Ooh that chiptune style production is heavenly ‘Fame is a Gun’ is giving me shades of Marina during her first couple of eras, I think it’s mostly the melody. Good stuff yet again - bring on the video 💖

I agree that the song goes to interesting places during its runtime but grinds to a halt far too soon, certainly could’ve done with another minute or two of fleshing out. Here’s hoping this won’t be an issue with too much of the album.
