How ACR has affected the #1 spot
This is quite fascinating how the “wrong song” has managed to be number 1 most weeks this year. Is the Top 200 combined tracks chart available online anywhere?

Friday Chart Predictions
Rein Me In has been steadily growing on Spotify this week, reaching a new peak of number 5 on Thursday.

Thank you! That had had me baffled!

2026 BPI Certifications
Am I right in saying that the "new look" BPI certifications website seems to have lost all its history? As far as I can see, is no longer possible to view all the certifications for a particular song, just the most recent?

Number 1 songs that dropped from number 1 despite an increase in chart sales
These are both great examples, RAYE's peak sales week was actually her fourth week at Number 2, three weeks after being Number 1, and Capaldi's peak week was his fifth week at number 3, a full six weeks after being number 1, which given that he was number 1 for 7 weeks is insane!

Number 1 songs that dropped from number 1 despite an increase in chart sales
I spotted recently that Kylie’s XMAS increased sales by 15% in the week it dropped from number 1 to number 4. Obviously there were special circumstances that week. The only other occasion I can think of in the ACR era was “Freaky Friday” by Lil Dicky feat. Chris Brown back in 2018. It got to number 1 on a relatively low sale, surged during the following week but was overtaken by Drake, and then was overtaken by Dua Lipa / Calvin Harris as well the following week. Its peak week of sales was actually the week it was at number 3. Can anyone think of any other examples? I’ve often wondered about Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s single “The Power of Love” in December 1984, whether its sales rose when it dropped from number 1 to number 3 behind Band Aid and Wham?

2025 singles year to date estimates
Going deeper I have 30 songs which have reached 4.2 million and 56 songs which have reached 3.6 million but it’s very difficult to keep track of all the pre 1994 million sellers.

2025 singles year to date estimates
Then I have Bohemian Rhapsody, Wonderwall and Blinding Lights completing the Top 10. Thinking Out Loud recently was the 11th song to reach 5.0 million. Then we have Candle In The Wind, One Dance, Shotgun and Take Me to Church making just 15 tracks which have reached 4.8 million. Does anyone have any different information?

7th in fact, Perfect was the 6th on 28th November. I have Band Aid at approx 6.56 million, and thus ahead of Capaldi.

2025 singles year to date estimates
So in theory today should be the day that Last Christmas overtakes Mr Brightside and becomes the first song to reach 6,800,000 chart sales? Wham were at about 6,606,000 at the start of the week and should do about 200,000 this week. On the basis that the Killers took 301 days to achieve their last certification 97 days ago, and assuming their consumption continued at the same rate, I currently have Mr. Brightside on 6,793,355. Using the same methodology. Ed Sheeran took 672 days to achieve his last certification 202 days ago, and assuming his consumption continued at the same rate, I currently have Shape of You on 6,780,357.

Any idea on whether there will be a separate show for the weekly chart? I remember back in 2017 they tried to combine the two shows and somehow managed to read the wrong Top 10 for the current week’s chart.

Hello, can I ask the source of your pre 1994 figure for Fairytale of New York? It's somewhat lower than I had calculated. Thank you.

2025 BPI Certifications
Fairy Tale of New York has gone 7x Platinum today. With an estimated 440K sales pre 1994, that takes them comfortably into the all time Top 20.
