2025 singles year to date estimates
Going deeper I have 30 songs which have reached 4.2 million and 56 songs which have reached 3.6 million but it’s very difficult to keep track of all the pre 1994 million sellers.

Then I have Bohemian Rhapsody, Wonderwall and Blinding Lights completing the Top 10. Thinking Out Loud recently was the 11th song to reach 5.0 million. Then we have Candle In The Wind, One Dance, Shotgun and Take Me to Church making just 15 tracks which have reached 4.8 million. Does anyone have any different information?

2025 singles year to date estimates
So in theory today should be the day that Last Christmas overtakes Mr Brightside and becomes the first song to reach 6,800,000 chart sales? Wham were at about 6,606,000 at the start of the week and should do about 200,000 this week. On the basis that the Killers took 301 days to achieve their last certification 97 days ago, and assuming their consumption continued at the same rate, I currently have Mr. Brightside on 6,793,355. Using the same methodology. Ed Sheeran took 672 days to achieve his last certification 202 days ago, and assuming his consumption continued at the same rate, I currently have Shape of You on 6,780,357.

Any idea on whether there will be a separate show for the weekly chart? I remember back in 2017 they tried to combine the two shows and somehow managed to read the wrong Top 10 for the current week’s chart.

2025 BPI Certifications
Hello, can I ask the source of your pre 1994 figure for Fairytale of New York? It's somewhat lower than I had calculated. Thank you.

2025 BPI Certifications
Fairy Tale of New York has gone 7x Platinum today. With an estimated 440K sales pre 1994, that takes them comfortably into the all time Top 20.

I was right about Take Me To Church!

"Mr Brightside" and "Shape of You" must be very close to each other now? Based on the number of days since their last certification, and the number of days taken to reach their last certification, and assuming that their consumption has not slowed down or sped up during that time, I had Mr Brightside at 6,740,000 and Shape of You at 6,756,000 this week. Full calculations as follows Shape of You 175/672 * 600,000 = 156,000 Mr Brightside 70/301 * 600,000 = 140,000 It's logical to assume that Shape of You might have slowed slightly, thus making them even closer?

2025 BPI Certifications
According to my figures there have only ever been 12 songs to have been certified 8 x platinum, the most recent being "One Dance" and "Shotgun". However it would appear that 3 more songs are about to reach this achievement, "RipTide", "Take Me To Church" and "Someone Like You", so watch out for these before Christmas.

As and when Last Christmas goes 9x platinum, that will indicate a total of 6.82M chart sales all time. Presumably the BPI certifications are based on actual figures rather than weekly chart estimates?

Christmas #1 Race 2025 (now includes poll)
A really strong new album by a major act in its first week would have a great chance of getting the Christmas Top 3. Otherwise, I’m pretty sure that nothing in the charts at the moment is going to be strong enough to exceed the 50K chart units that we might expect Last Christmas to secure?

Based on the speed of the 11th platinum certification (301 days vs 672 days), Mr Brightside was "selling" at 14K per week whilst Shape of You was at 6K per week. If that trend was continued, Mr Brightside would overtake before Christmas, indeed they would both be at 6.77M on 12th December 2025. However Shape of You has been noticeably slowing down and may only now be at 5k per week, in which case they may be very close indeed right now.

How ACR has affected the #1 spot
This week "Messy" is one of those very rare tracks that is number 1 in both sales and streaming but, due to ACR, not number 1 overall. I think this happened to Despacito in 2017, can anyone think of any other instances?

Friday Chart Predictions
If I remember correctly "Dreams" by Ruti was number 1 on the update of 15 April 2018 but only finished at number 14 that week? The following week she dropped out of the charts completely.
