I’m staying in Cardiff this week and have just been to watch 2:22. A Ghost Story at the New Theatre starring James Bye almost a year to the day he finished at Eastenders! Really enjoyed it and I still feel like killing Martin off was a mistake.

Michael, you think everyone’s acting is atrocious 😂 Zoe’s original legacy was overblown anyway. She wasn’t that likeable a character, she just ended up in two massive stories the latter of which had people feeling sorry for her. If anyone’s original legacy has been destroyed, it’s Anthony. He was never the most dynamic character but he was never the villain he suddenly was. Jasmine, however, has kind of only been a villain but it’s clear the writers want us to root for her. There have been some lines about how it was a good thing she killed Anthony and so on. But, like Zoe in the initial return, we’re meant to feel sorry for these things happening to her but all she does is use people and be nasty to them. She’s never even treated Oscar well. They also haven’t bothered delving into why she’s like this. Ok, they’ve got the ‘abandoned at birth’ angle but we haven’t seen why that was so bad for her. The opportunities to show that she’s suffered some sort of abuse have been there but haven’t been utilised. We met her adoptive mother but I can’t really remember anything about that episode already. It’s just the awful soap cliche that only your blood family can care for you properly. Everything is so vague, does she know her brother? Were they adopted together, did she know she was a twin? There are so many GAPs. She is a character who appears to be as paper thin as the plot. The only good thing in this story has been Sam’s contributions and they’ve been few and far between.

I guess but she doesn’t seem to have one positive personality trait. She’s never even been that kind to Oscar unless she’s trying to get something from him. I mean Zoe herself is pretty horrendous but at least they had her caring for Mini Mo.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. I can’t actually find anything for her to I’m intrigued by those who can. I think she’s a good actor but that’s as far as it goes. The character herself is horrific and paper thin with no tangible likeable qualities. It’s like they think her being blood related to Kat is enough for us (and Kat) to root for her but that’s just bad writing.

How have they not give Jasmine one likeable quality over the past few months? One act of kindness? I honestly am not invested in her proving her ‘innocence’ and would be perfectly happy if this was the end of her character.

Thought that was pretty decent today. Both Chrissie and Cindy getting humanising moments (though there was still too much OTT villain Chrissie.) And Mo has been back one episode and there were no fewer than 3 jokes about her underwear 🤢

Grant is returning again which makes sense. I can’t be arsed seeing him interact with Mark but I’d like to see him with Nigel again. His scenes with Nigel and Bianca last year were absolute highlights.

I was already at uni by this point but I could never get Basshunter being a five week no.1. It’s catchy but it’s not that good. It reminds me of eating takeaways in Halls 😂

Also why was Alfie completely certain Jake was dead but hasn’t applied that logic to actual dead cousin Danny?

I mean, I kind of want to hate Chrissie mainly because she’s TAO but watching her spell things out to Kat was actually kind of fun given how poor the writing has been up to this point.

The Lexi set up is irritating now. They killed Lola off in order to give Ballum a full time child and then tha didn’t work out when they had to axe Ben, and then Jay. They’re clearly waiting for it to be safe to bring Ben back full time otherwise why bother hang on the Callum? And Lexi is a little too old now for the childish character they’re still having her play. It’s not really cute anymore seeing her rudely boss people around and then turn on the waterworks.

And what is this latest character assassination? Sweet little Louis a bully?

4 Minutes is fun enough but it did feel like the turning point where Madonna began following the trends rather than setting them.

Mark Junior just isn’t working for me. There’s literally nothing Fowler about him at all. I know the last one was 10 years ago and only for a handful of episodes but the change in character feels jarring. I also hope this isn’t Wadey trying to ‘reset’ Phil. I don’t know how Jessie Wallace copes with the awful dialogue these days.

Why would Alfie even think Jake was dead? I know Jake’s initial exit was left up in the air as to whether he was going to die or not, but Alfie had been gone from the show for almost a year at that point. I’m not sure word of Jake’s ‘death’ would have even reached him.

Please let’s not have Nigel die like this. I didn’t like it when they killed Sylvie off in this way.

I remember kind of assuming Singin In The Rain would go to no.1 in 2005. I felt vindicated in 2008 when it finally got there.

I dunno, the impact would have given her whiplash which is what she’s playing. Elaine didn’t hit the car by accident, she wanted to cause it damage. Let’s see where this Bea stuff is going. I still don’t understand why any characters are putting up with her.

I have now heard Hallelujah performed too may time at school Christmas concerts which annoys me as it isn’t a Christmas song. I’m also having the same issue with Somewhere Only We Know.

That top ten in the first episode 😮 so many classics! I pretty much like every song and love at least half of them. Noticed the Vengaboys seemed to be missing a performer? Something I never noticed back in 99.

I can’t believe stuff like that gets as far as filming.

Alice Haig was a great signing. Still yet to be sold on Mark Jnr, him and Zach seem a bit interchangeable. Do they even have a plan for Bea. She’s so weird but not in an iconic way.

You’re not an authority on acting or what’s good in EE. Oscar as a character and an actor has shown promise. The only other teenager, other than Jasmine of course, that I’d like him paired with is Will who unfortunately doesn’t get much screen time. The adults you refer to are his FAMILY. Why wouldn’t he share scenes with them? None of your comments ever make any sense and I tire of them.

Oscar is a great character and a fine young actor. He really is a stand out from this era even though he’s bogged down with Jasmine drama.

Because blood is the reason for everything. It’s why Zach is such a good dad to Barney. It’s why Kat and Zoe really want Jasmine around despite the fact she’s clearly a horrendous person. Plus we need to be reminded over and over that Grant exists and what better way than having some generic angry young man for characters to tut at and say ‘ you’re just like your father’ even though he has only spent a mere few hours with Grant his whole life. He’s just a random young thug character they’ve slapped a known name on to. Mark, Jasmine, Bea, they’re all paper thin characters with few redeeming features. Oscar seems to be the only decent character introduced by Wadey so far.
