Not the first post I thoughtI’d post in here but here’s a tribute to Lyn Scully and fallen icon Janet Andrewartha. KCV4UKPN0Rk? AtkE6r0QQIw? dCZFavEgtr0? cBI3kEy2SLI? FmdFo5yyXhE? oxOGxCJgI58? oe8gGn6v0wI? Comedy and drama in equal measure. Lyn will be missed. RIP Janet.

Still No 1? How the music charts lost their lustre
It may be interesting to you, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but the point the article is making is that this kind of chart isn’t interesting for those who may once have had a casual interest in it. Most people won’t be aware that the current no.3 is peaking on its 16th week in the chart because a lot of them were probably over that song at least six weeks ago and it’s now just background music on a popular playlist to them. You can paint the chart as interesting but you can’t paint the people as interested.

It’s always been extremely odd that Debbie seemed to have no other family, no one else that could help with the medical fees. It’s going to be even more odd finding out she does after all this.

Still No 1? How the music charts lost their lustre
Of course people fall out of love with chart music as they get older but none of this is about that. The charts are not just uninteresting for 35 year old me, but they’re uninteresting to young people outside of this forum too. Most kids I teach at school couldn’t tell you who was no.1, some aren’t even aware the chart is a thing. They’re all still very into their music-some listen to chart music a lot and some actually prefer to listen to older stuff. This isn’t about music and nostalgia for music. It’s about the fact that the chart is just pretty irrelevant now. The chart show itself is pretty much the only time it gets mentioned these days. The interest in the concept of the chart is waning despite the fact that interest in music is a strong as ever. It’s insulting to say it’s just a load of old people nostalgic for the olden days-it’s actually really dismissive but that’s hardly anything new for the Chart forum or Buzzjack as a whole these days. The fact is that the chart is less relevant to people and their lives than it ever has been. And it will continue to go that way. People don’t need it for music enjoyment anymore and that’s not necessarily a good or a bad thing. But my point is that whilst people will be nostalgic for the charts of old, they probably won’t be for the charts of recent years because they’ve had no impact on their lives. There’ll be nostalgia for the music, but not the charts.

Thanks for explaining something I didn’t need explaining to me and completely missing my point by also proving it.

Still No 1? How the music charts lost their lustre
I don’t see anything wrong with the article really. The charts are boring, people are less interested and it was more interesting in the past. That’s nothing to do with the music in the charts but when you base something around listening habits, it’s always going to be boring. People are generally boring in what they listen to. I know people will claim that people always look more fondly on things from the past and that there were always issues in the chart. All of that is true. However, it’s hard to imagine anyone looking back on the last 5-10 years of the chart with lots of nostalgia because of the fact that people aren’t paying much attention to any of it now. It’ll never get back how it was but you can’t blame people for missing those days. More variety and movement in the chart, Top Of The Pops every week, acts regularly promoting on TV. It’s not the done thing anymore but it was great. It’s not snobbery to point that out. On this board, it’s not a real representation of how people view the charts. I can’t really understand why so many still follow them as religiously as they do particularly when they’re able to so fairly accurately predict what will happen in them. Even this week I’ve seen someone say they’re disappointed Jade isn’t in contention for no.1 and then been ridiculed because they don’t understand how these things work. It feels like a lot of people follow the charts purely for numbers and statistics rather than music. It’s hard work for anyone to follow and understand the charts these days. I gave up following closely a long time ago.

EastEnders
Not only did Sonia not initially sign in, she had the big confrontation with the receptionist where she notably did sign in whereas we didn’t see Reiss do so. She also managed to get her DNA all over Debbie’s pillow by ‘making her feel more comfortable’ and expressed to Martin about how things would be easier if Debbie was dead. That and airing her desperate money woes and reluctant martyring in selling the house to her extended family, she’s basically set herself up with no help at all. Only thing is I’m not sure I’d buy Reiss allowing Sonia to go down for it given she is the reason he’s done all of this.

EastEnders
They actually had Denny hit Sharon twice with both the different actors if I recall. But they squandered any chance of an actual storyline. I seem to remember Ian knowingly referencing a mark on Sharon’s face that came from first Denny hinting that she needed to stop spoiling him or he’ll continue to abuse her and the second Denny we saw punch her on screen. This would have been an interesting route to go down with us having seen on screen that Sharon had always spoiled Denny growing up but then she had too many storylines going on already and Denny was dead within the year. It will be interesting to see where this goes with Tommy and Kat. And don’t forget, this isn’t the first time Tommy has attacked one of his parents. He punched Alfie last year.

She’ll either wake up when Sonia goes into labour or Reiss will kill her to avoid having to pay her fees.

How could the singles chart be improved?
Scrap the whole thing. It’s gone too far now and it’s unsaveably crap. Play an official streaming chart on Radio 1 and an official sales chart on Radio 2. Keep the demographics happy. Play a top 20 album chart somewhere too once streams are removed from it.

EastEnders
It was all rewritten from what I remember. Jane was going to be killed off in the disaster week-it looked like that was where it was headed and it would have made sense at the time. But around this time John Yorke took over quite abruptly and changed the story so that Jane would live and Steven would be killed. Also axing Lauren and Abi at the time whose story probably would have played out differently if Steven had survived. I’m pretty sure all of this is why Steven had a terrible funeral and a non reaction to his death from Ian. It also explains why Jane’s exit felt rushed and made little sense. Her never coming back didn’t sit right whereas had she died, it would have been understandable. I’m glad she didn’t die but that whole era was just completely bonkers.

The fees are extremely high even without VAT-it’s highly likely pretty much everyone sending their kids to a private school can afford it. As usual with the rich though, they just don’t want to pay it. The illusion that people who send their kids to private schools care more about their child’s education than those who go to state schools makes me sick. They’re not buying an education, they’re buying their child’s way to an easy life through connections. Yes, the policy doesn’t go far enough for my liking but it sure is a start.

But the whole idea of paying for a ‘better’ education is absurd and extremely archaic. People from state schools can still be successful and there shouldn’t be panic from anyone. I know this is an issue that will never be sorted out but I take such issue at the suggestion that the education I deliver is subpar because I work in a state school. Yes, there are bigger challenges but if the focus was shifted on to tackling them rather than subsidising places at private schools, maybe there would be a difference. A child having to go to a state school over a private school should not be treated as a life or death issue. If it is for you, then that means your problems are minuscule in comparison to most people.

Brilliant episodes. Bobby’s stint has been so successful and the only thing missing until this week was interaction with Jane and, along with Cindy’s scenes, they absolutely nailed it. By the time Jane and old Bobby exited, the show was in a complete state, almost bizarre how odd it all was. Jane and Bobby in particular were huge casualties of that and Jane’s exit never made any sense and she was barely mentioned for years which was ridiculous given how impactful her character was. Bobby has been brilliantly portrayed since the recast and become a proper character rather than some loony child killer and his scenes with Jane were the icing on the cake. Jane herself will be truly redeemed here too, thank you so much Chris Clenshaw! And clearly we’ll be seeing a Masood return which I hope would lead to a Zainab one. With the other news in this thread and the murmurs that we’ll be seeing returns for the 40th, I can’t help but feel they’ll get some big name comebacks over the next year. It reminds me of when Neighbours dragged itself back up into a good place and could then literally get any character to return. Eastenders has come so far in the last two years.

If you can afford to spend that much money on sending your children to school, then you’re not strapped for cash even if you’re not paying VAT. Perhaps send people could tighten their belts elsewhere-perhaps take fewer holidays, stop having expensive coffees or subscribing to Netflix-aren’t those the things poorer people were told to do so they could heat their homes? The money saved from the VAT being covered could actually be put into our underfunded state schools, which will receive more money anyway if their roll does get higher. I went to and now work in a state school and it absolutely sickens me that we still have a segregated school system in that you can supposedly buy a better education. How on Earth is a system like that fair? Honestly you bleat on constantly about being the big liberal personality of the site and yet you defend one of the most unfair things we have going on in this country. Tells me you’re all talk. Education should be for everyone. Everyone should be able to access high class education, not just those who pay for it. I know it’s always going to be there, but I still don’t see why the people who send their kids to state schools need to pick up private school bills through their taxes.

Neighbours
Yeah, can’t see Mike being back. I think they did the relationship/storyline justice but it couldn’t go on for much longer. Better to have at least shown them in a long distance relationship for a bit rather than just splitting them up off screen-unlike two other couples. Also Wendy is such a legend. So glad the Rodwells were brought back for the revival.

Round 1 : Year End Survivor No.91
Martine leading with a gives pop bop is ridiculous and it might not be Pink’s best but FGT is pretty good still and gives me proper Summer 2003 feels, I love it. Why that dire Cheryl song isn’t in the lead I’ll never know. She’s crap in general but this was another level of horrendous.
