I guess it’s just me being Welsh but England fans just can’t win with me. I find it irritating when they moan about managers and players when they’re losing and irritating when they scream ‘IT’S COMING HOME’ when they luckily scraping through after playing pretty badly. Just seem so fickle.

It was a long running hit despite not peaking very high in the UK. I feel that’s very much where Pink is now.

Labour are most likely to win. It’s just soul destroying even thinking about voting for them as they are though.

Don’t find them too bad so far, this entrances are always cringe. Avani had a cringe arrival and she’s pretty good now-as I predicted she would be at the time.

I’m wavering now, Labour are so hard to support and Plaid are giving me everything.

Thank goodness! There was a time I’d never thought I’d say that about this character but they’ve been horrendous for at least 10 years.
  7. I’ve waited a decade to see Hadji actually outright say that Jenny Fisher should be sacked and insist that’s hire him. It’s always been there but this is the first time I recall it being stated outright. I love the idea that Jenny Fisher hates Taylor Swift but loves Shania Twain, Simply Red, S Club and Rod Stewart therefore uses her position in Now to inflict her taste on everyone else. That would be wild if true.

But you have to suspend your disbelief when watching Doctor Who, it’s something we’ve always had to do! honestly, I do not get the fixation with the cloak at all and there’s so much about this series you could pick at, I’m just not sure why a cloak is the one that’s gotten people so annoyed.

But the whole point is that we were supposed to think Ruby’s mother was some mysterious other worldly person. It makes complete sense they’d dress in some sort of ominous cloak to get people talking. I doubt very much her rocking up in a Burberry tracksuit and a beenie hat would have gotten people theorising in the way they wanted us to.

The results will be there in the morning. Some of us don’t have the luxury of taking time off to stay up.

Feels to me like the 73 yards stuff will come back eventually. The snow I can’t explain but I guess that could be revealed later? However I’ve seen so many comments about ‘why is Ruby’s mum dressed in a cloak if she’s just a normal teenager?’ and once again roll my eyes on the fixation on a mundane detail. She was abandoning a baby at the church. There was CCTV. She didn’t want to be seen. I don’t really need a full explanation of where she found the cloak, etc, it’s just not important enough.

No, I definitely don’t think Star Wars did it better. And I’m a huge Star Wars fan and even prefer it to DW but hands down this was done better. No one working on Star Wars actually talked to each other about who Rey was. They even changed her identity midway filming the final film. There was no plan and it shows. Whereas the reveal that she was no one did actually work during the Last Jedi, they didn’t stick the landing of it. They couldn’t commit to the choice because they were terrified of fan reaction. RTD clearly is not as he had shown since returning to take over. He’s attitude is that this is DW, deal with it and I love the energy. Doctor Who has most often than not had a series long mystery since it’s 2005 return. This is why the reveal feels more satisfying. Star Wars never had a mystery before Rey so to troll the fans was a bit of a letdown. People rave about the reveal of Darth Vader being Luke’s father and sort of assume Star Wars is all about family mysteries. But the identify of Luke’s father wasn’t a mystery until that reveal. No one was wondering who Luke’s father was and Darth Vader had already been given an explanation. That’s why the reveal was so effecting, because no one was expecting it. I’m assuming of course, I wasn’t born in 1980. But the Rey reveal had been off the back of 2 years of speculation and wasn’t even definite enough that they couldn’t overwrite it in the next film. RTD has pulled a similar trick but the answers are definite and now cannot be changed. We have identities for the parents. We have an explanation as to why the mystery was built up-not perfectly but still.

I’m going against the grain. I really enjoyed that and didnt really feel let down at all. Yes, it was an RTD reversal but surely everyone knew that would happen as soon as Sutekh killed everyone? I love that Mrs Flood is still a mystery and seemingly unconnected to Sutekh-leave us wanting more! It’s interesting that you bring up Rey from Star Wars, Chez, that totally went through my mind too. But I think Ruby’s mum being ordinary works much better, with companions from Rose all the way to Clara always having a special destiny and being super important we’ve come to expect the same thing and it was refreshing that it was ordinary. With Rey, it felt like a let down as it was a mystery that Star Wars had never done before and was a clear case of no cohesion in the planning of the films, particularly when they made the twist even worse in the following film. But RTD had this planned, he played on audience expectations and even wrote that into the characters over the series. We were all kind of groaning at Christmas when Ruby had a mystery surrounding her so it’s kind of refreshing that it wasn’t some big deal. Of course, a little suspension of disbelief is required but that’s also something always need when watching DW. I found it very thrilling and satisfying. I’m pumped for the next series, something I haven’t said about Doctor Who in almost ten years. They have to give us Susan in the next one!

It’s interesting that people who are not enjoying the show are always the ones trying to convince everyone it’s doing really badly. Personally, I’ve not see the show talked about this much in years. My dad is a lifelong fan from the beginning and over the past few years we used to ask ‘did you see Doctor Who?’ And respond with ‘yeah, it wasn’t very good’ or ‘it was alright, I guess’. This series we have really gotten back to properly talking about it, discussing theories and such. Some people do just have to accept the show isn’t for them anymore. Russell is right about that. It’s not an age thing, otherwise my dad would fall into the mix with these people allegedly giving up. Russell basically said that if you can’t embrace the diversity and progressiveness of the cast and themes, then it’s not for you. Doctor Who has always been progressive, it’s just that it’s also now evolved. I’d love to think that anyone disappointed is that way because the stories are not good but these threads have literally been complaining about parking the Tardis in the wrong place, the Doctor going clubbing and the Doctor being upset about being on the receiving end of racism. It’s absolutely nitpicky to the point that it feels people are looking for reasons to dislike it.

Honestly couldn’t give one about ratings. I’ve really enjoyed what we’ve had from this series. The entertainment is back, the thrilling viewing is back and even if I was the only one to watch, I’d still deem the series a success based on the fact it has me enjoying DW again.
  16. Definitely an underwhelming result. Completely expected but it just isn’t that best song that was in the poll and definitely not as good as I Believe In You. I won’t say more as I imagine everything I have said is enough for the gushers to rush in.
  17. Don’t forget the Rani was mentioned several times at the start of the series. Perhaps that’s who Mrs Flood is?
  18. Great episode, lot of excitement, so perched for the finale! I must say as well that it was amusing to see Yolande Trueman being left in the care of Angie Watts whilst Carmel Kazemi went undercover. If you know, you know.

Reluctantly Labour which I’m uneasy about. I’m not totally convinced that I won’t change my mind last minute and go with Plaid. My seat is usually a Labour shoe in so I guess I could vote for anyone but I’m still terrified it’ll all go wrong. Also I guess it might be refreshing to be on the winning side of an election for the first time ever.

Without Can’t Take Me Home in contention, it’s The Truth About Love for me. The singles are absolutely killer on there but I don’t find myself returning to the rest a lot. Having said all that, I am due a P!nk marathon so perhaps I will reassess.

Well, of course artists want to be successful. What he doesn’t get is that they’re not all as obsessed with it as he is and not all will sell out their artistic integrity for it. I guess what I mean is, they want people to like the music they’re making, they don’t just want what people like to dictate their music.

I love that Cindy is still consistent with her 90s self. Bleating about caring for her family with a smacked bum face whilst desperately trying to clamber into the bed of another man. Never change, Cindy! I did like how George seems to have knocked her back for Elaine. I do think he genuinely loves Elaine unlike Ian and Cindy. Priya munching on that apple was iconic. Tbh everything she does is.

Wouldn’t be at all surprised if the milkshake attack was a staged publicity stunt.
