EastEnders
You know something’s gone wrong with a character when I’m feeling sympathy for Lauren Branning of all people. Whitney and Bianca are such scum, I’ve actually lost hope anyone will properly put them in their place before they go. I even thought Lauren was going to remain silent throughout all that and was relieved she brought up all the bad things Whitney’s done.

‘It ain’t every day you get married, Whit’ well it sure FEELS LIKE IT. Get that awful character off our screens. Whitney ran out of mileage years ago and Zack and Lauren are the latest in a long line of punchbags designed to prop Whitney up as a saintly down trodden character. I’ve just had enough now. Luckily everyone else seems to be giving the show life right now be it Linda’s scorn at anything Whitney does or Kat saying she couldn’t give a shit if Sonia was at the wedding or not.

Doctor Who • Boom
The Doctor going clubbing once ever needs to be removed from canon? At this point, I know it’s not the show that’s jumped the shark…

Imagine taking one thing that you didn’t like and then applying it to everyone. Most viewers won’t care too much about the Timeless Child stuff. I don’t like it either but I’m happy to go along with it. It’s not exactly overshadowing anything else that’s going on or getting in the way of the plots so I just don’t see what there is to be upset about. The image of you tuning in and tuning out within in minutes because they made a tiny mention of a plot you hated is actually so comical, I’m laughing out loud. My dad has been watching since 1963 and has actually been really enjoying this series so far. He exactly the kind of person that would be painted as tuning out for various reasons and yet he hasn’t. Honestly these thread are life giving right now. Seeing people disgusted at the Doctor clubbing, mention being adopted or the Tardis being parked in the middle of the road. I can’t wait to see what slight detail will make someone cancel the show next week!

Kings of Leon - Can We Please Have Fun
Went to pick this up today and noticed there was one copy in my HMV entitled ‘Gawn Ni Hwyl Plîs?’-the title in Welsh! It contained a bonus disc featuring live performances from their Wrexham gig last year. Love that extra something for us Welsh speakers-when will Taylor Swift?

UK General Election 2024
Employing more teachers is a noble goal but how exactly will he do this? Teacher recruitment and retention will only improve if the conditions of the job do.

Whitney is surely gone next week, right? They said Spring and it’s Summer in a couple of weeks. Either way, she’s just unbearable

I didn’t know whether to bother posting as I’m sure some people will accuse me of being too close to the case to be unbiased even though my link is extremely tenuous. But in recent months, I have become friends with one of the doctors who first suspected her guilt. He has never spoken of it and I would never ask him, he doesn’t even know that I know. I only know because I recognised him from television interviews last Summer. He comes across as a man of great integrity and an absolute professional. I fully trust him in these matters. I also teach children who come from families affected by her actions. I simply cannot entertain any idea that she’s innocent. The jury were quite thorough. They didn’t even find her guilty of every charge, only the ones where the evidence was quite overwhelming. From my recollection, the media only began declaring her a murderer once she was found guilty of being one. I don’t know why so many people, including doctors in the hospital, would put so much effort into setting her up. If anything the management, who would have a great interest in setting her up as a scapegoat should they require one, did more than they needed to in order to support her and hush it all up.

Doctor Who • 2023-
Bit of a win today for me personably but my Dad loved the two opening episodes-even the dance routine as he argued it was well done! He’s a massive DW fan from the beginning and those who’ve been around will know that I was quite shaken by my parents and their emerging views during Covid so I was really expecting him to take against most of the new series so far but it’s been a winner. My parents seem to be losing their right wing tendencies the further away we get from Covid.

Doctor Who • 2023-
The Doctor has been clubbing in one episode only so far. As for fashionable clothes, perhaps that is just who this new Doctor is? You’ve repeated that point multiple times already and the fact that no one has responded on it until now suggests that no one else sees it as an issue.

Doctor Who • 2023-
It did very well being aired late Spring/early Summer when it was first brought back in the 2000s so I’m not sure why that would be an issue. Why is it you won’t be watching and assume other won’t either? Bit of a random detail to give out if you’re not going to explain why.

Doctor Who • The Devil's Chord
Ok that was a bit messy. I feel Maestro has potential to be a great villain but it all seemed a bit rushed despite not much going on. Like there were a lot of ideas but they didn’t know which to focus on. Perhaps it’d have been better as a two parter. They definitely could have cut out the ‘twist’ at the end. Not sure what they were thinking there.

Doctor Who • Space Babies
I actually didn’t mind that. There’s certainly been worse in Doctor Who. I’m enjoying Ncuti and Millie so far, I think they’re doing a great job.

Now That's What I Call Music! [Part 7]
There’s no need for Soulja Boy to appear on anything ever again.

Now That's What I Call Music! [Part 7]
Duffy only has Rockferry that would qualify here anyway. She may appear on the next volume. Some really bizarre choices here.

EastEnders
What an episode! What characters! So good to see Patrick and Yolande taking centre stage. To think she was axed in 2008 because they claimed they couldn’t think of stories for her!

‘There’s nothing in my head, Billy’ Honey, please never change! Lovely to see Will and Janet get some significant screen time for a change. Bianca is also much better used as background comedy than she is generally screaming at people. You can already tell tomorrow’s episode is going to be epic.

Jess Glynne - JESS
Just finishing my first listen and I do quite like what I hear, not sure it’ll be my fave of hers but it’s decent enough. I’d argue that given the context it’s probably performed better than expectations despite obviously being a huge comedown from her previous success. I saw people mention earlier that surely she’s surprised nothing has taken off in this era and although I do think she’s often quite ignorant, I don’t think that’s the case at all. There aren’t really any stand out singles on the album and I think she’s not actually aimed for that success this time, probably knowing that she’d damaged her reputation quite a bit over the years with some of the mistakes she’s made. It doesn’t feel like this project has been pushed at all really and that may be by design. She has commented recently that she found fame hard and given a lot of the backlash she’s faced, perhaps she just wants to release music quietly. After all, she’s had the big hits and album sales. She could easily have attached herself to some dance features to stay in the limelight over the past 5 years like Ella Henderson or Becky Hill but she seems to have chosen not to. She does mention personal growth in the album sleeve and perhaps she had become more humbled by her experiences. Someone mentioned earlier that she should have been cancelled for her music even before the bad press and comments like that just reinforce my theory that some people just disliked her anyway and were delighted whenever she did or said something stupid because it just validated an opinion they’d already formed.

My first post was actually directed at a number of posters but it’s hardly surprising to see you make it all about you. Most other posters seem to have just ignored my post. I have even reported at least one post in here that was actually removed so I guess the mods agreed with my assessment of it. Just so we’re clear, it wasn’t a post of yours. And as for telling you to do better, that was my second post and only there because you decided to double down on why you have the right to be nasty about someone. Again, you had the chance to just ignore what I’d said. I never said Jess had done anything for the Trans community except apologise which she did promptly. Perhaps she hasn’t done anything for them but I just enjoy her music and don’t really follow such things so wouldn’t know anyway. I just genuinely think she gets too hard a time on here. And that extends to way before she made a transphobic slur. People will have been waiting to jump on her for ages, I was amazed her second album did as well as it did given she was very much hated around here. Unfortunately, she has given people reason to validate their hatred of her but let’s not pretend that many people didn’t just hate her anyway already.

EastEnders
Zack is a great character played by a great actor but he has been stuck in circles since they randomly paired him with Whitney. It wasn’t even organic they just randomly said they were a thing back when they decided to put them together.

Jess Glynne - JESS
I never said you couldn’t have an opinion, I just said people don’t need to be nasty about it and revel in her flopping. I’m not sure what your last comment means. Why should it be shocking that I stick up for someone whose music I like? Or indeed stick up for any victim of a general pile on? Are you trying to say that because you perceive her as an awful person, you’re assuming I’m an awful person for defending her. I can see that any energy I put into trying to discuss this with you will be wasted.
-
Jess Glynne - JESS
Oh I see, so that perception of her, someone you don’t know personally, gives people to right to behave as badly as you perceive her to? Generally do better.
