Scott Mills sacked from BBC Radio 2 over 'personal conduct'
This is a shock. Obviously we know nothing ‘personal conduct’ could mean all sorts of things. But they’ve sacked him rather than just suspended him which suggests whatever it is is pretty big. And Scott Mills has always been one of my favourite DJs, I loved listening to his show on Radio 1 when I was at uni and I catch him on Radio 2 every now and then but I’m usually out the his before his show would come on. I’m bracing myself for being upset yet again that someone I enjoyed has another side to them… EDIT: and not this being the first issue to arise with the Eastenders Flash Forward!

EastEnders
If you’re all hating it so much, maybe just stop watching? We all criticise the show where it’s due but a lot of us praise it where it’s due too. If you’re repeatedly calling everything trash or whinging about the license fee, maybe it just isn’t for you?

90s Top 10 sales- Week By Week- 1999
I too recall being surprised to see Vengaboys at no.1 on CD UK! I thought Britney or Adam Rickitt would get there and hadn’t even properly heard Boom Boom Boom Boom before then. I’d heard the instrumental on a CBBC advert and obviously could tell it was a Vengaboys track but hadn’t properly heard it until it charted. Then it kind of blew up at school after that week. I wonder if the sales report of 9 July will be for the actual chart or the one aired? It’s been republished since it’s some songs losing their peaks (Lolly, Savage Garden) and others gaining peaks that weren’t aired (Semisonic, Melanie G and Sporty Thievez)

I mean, if your were up to speed you’d realise that this line isn’t as bad as it seemed at the time. He hasn’t seen Jasmine in over 10 years. Of course the bigger question is where did he get her number from and why did he call her then? The story has been vague tbf.

Chappell Roan security guard controversy
The second part of my post is about the thread in general, not sure why you think it would be about you. I’m just saying what I’m seeing in the thread. I’m calling out some hypocrisy when I see it. Surely that can be part of the debate? I’m really not comfortable with your implication that I’m somehow making this an unfair debate by speaking my truth? People have been free to speak theirs. As for the part that was about you. It’s quite clear that no one has been giving Catherine vitriol on the scale others have been giving it to Chappell and I think you know that. In this very thread, people who have defending Chappell haven’t necessary called Catherine a liar (something neither Chappell nor the security guard have done either) and yet in this thread people have said that Chappell must be lying and that the security guard has been forced to cover for her!

Maybe instead of being passive aggressive you should just tell me what that emoji means. Because I feel like you’re making fun of me and your tone isn’t changing my mind.

Chappell Roan security guard controversy
You literally said Catherine was receiving the brunt of the criticism. It’s clear that she isn’t. It was an odd thing to say as no one is necessarily disbelieving her in the way they are with Chappell. Chappell doesn’t even disbelieve her version of events, she simply put across her own. It was a daft thing to say. I’m just saying what I’m seeing. There are a number of people in this thread who have decided Chappell ordered a security guard to make a little girl cry for nothing and new evidence won’t even make them question themselves. And there have been many implications in this thread that people are only defending Chappell because they’re fans.

Sure there will but I won’t be part of it. Why are you actually laughing at me about this?

She’s getting paid as long as it’s successful. Potential viewers not tuning in will make a difference.

Chappell Roan security guard controversy
JESUS THIS THREAD Security guard has come forward and you’d think that would be the end of it. Nope! It’s interesting that when me and several others have posted in support of Chappell (who I’m not actually a fan of btw, Good Luck Babe is good but I’m not sold on the rest) we’ve been accused of just supporting her because we’re fans and not seeing things objectively. Then the third party enters the chat and actually manages to confirm what Chappell AND the mother said (I’ve watched that clip now, she says she didn’t know if he was one of Chappell’s people) and the same posters accusing us of some bias come straight in with ‘omg that obviously isn’t real, he’s been forced, blah, blah, blah’. YOU are the people who aren’t being objective. YOU made your mind up before any evidence came to light. YOU look ridiculous. And Joseph, the mother is getting the brunt of the criticism? What even? This is probably the most blinkered post of yours I’ve ever seen and that bar was HIGH.

Harry Potter • Season 1
I mean, I won’t touch this because I’m giving JK Rowling none of my money but there really isn’t a point. A lot of the sets look the same, the styling is very similar and Warwick Davies is still in it. Plus there really wasn’t much left out from the books that would even be interesting in film. I think there’s one character and one sequence from the first book that wasn’t in the film so how are they going to stretch the material over a series?

Chappell Roan security guard controversy
Again, that’s what the mother says. You don’t know if there’s more to it. People seem determined to vilify Chappell for something she didn’t actually herself and maybe didn’t happen the way it was reported. People on this thread are quite clearly put off by her not engaging with fans on the same level as some other celebs. I dare say some people are so used to having access to their celebs that they just can’t compute one that doesn’t give them that. ‘Can we find footage of Chappell being kind to the public’ what a ridiculousnous is that? Tell you what, let’s follow her 24/7 with a live stream camera and whip her through the streets every time she says something we don’t like? She doesn’t owe that girl anything and she doesn’t owe any of you anything either.

EastEnders
It really was something you can easily suspend your disbelief for. It’s not uncommon to take a child to their these days. If you want to rant about bad writing (and it’s all you seem to do) it really is an odd example to bring up considering other things going on in the show.

Chappell Roan security guard controversy
But isn’t that the issue? That’s all this is? Gossip? It’s not important and people could do with be a little less obsessed with it. She appears to be there for the music and art, not the culture.

Chappell Roan security guard controversy
Honestly what happened? At worst it sounds like a security guard asked someone not to do something. It’s not actually a big deal. Given everything going on in the world right now, this really isn’t the issue to be doubling down on. Why is it still being discussed now? Because people are trying to smear her. She rubs all the right people up the wrong way and like Blacksquare, I’m not a fan but I am here for it.

Maybe you should catch up so we can keep this thread coherent? Or should we have a Michael-pace thread on addition to this one?

Chappell Roan security guard controversy
I get it. So what you’re saying is: if you’re creative and wanting to express yourself that’s ok as long as we can affect your mental health at the same time. If you want space, stop being creative and expressing yourself. We really are reaching a low here…

Chappell Roan security guard controversy
I’m not delusional for wanting things in that industry to change. Its attitudes like yours that make change difficult to come by. ‘That’s the way it is’ isn’t an answer to anything, it’s just a barrier. It’s attitudes like that that make progress feel delusional. I also don’t consider myself ridiculous for trying to understand Chappell on a human level. Yes our jobs are wildly different but every job has its downside and this is one of fame’s. She’s well within her rights to complain about it just like anyone in any job. And just because you complain about your job doesn’t mean you hate it. I also don’t think anyone should be forced to give up the work they love because other people can’t respect their boundaries. Yes, it happens but why should she stop being creative and performing? That’s an unfair ask when people could just adjust their own behaviour.
-
Chappell Roan security guard controversy
Why should she get out of the industry? Why shouldn’t we be striving to improve things rather than just go ‘oh that’s the job’? That applies to any job as well-whenever I complain about my job, people sometimes say ‘well you knew what the job was’. It’s such a childish and immature response.

Most normal people don’t have to set those kind of boundaries though because people don’t know who they are or want to speak to them when they’re not working. Why is being respectful of someone’s wishes so frowned upon by some on here?- Chappell Roan security guard controversy
This feels like it’s blown out of proportion. What didn’t security guard even say? Was it ‘please don’t disturb Chappell’? Or did he genuinely threaten a child? I know what I think is most likely. Chappell has set her boundaries, try and respect them. People have become so entitled to access to celebrities, it’s actually quite worrying. It’s not that she doesn’t care about her fans, it’s that it’s her day off. It’s not like she’s never been clear about this. A lame comparison I know, but I’m a teacher in a school with a thousand students in it. I often have kids shouting for my attention when I’m out and about. They don’t mean harm, but I’d rather they didn’t and I will share that with them at an appropriate moment. Some also spot me and leave me alone. One boy told me yesterday he saw me on Sunday but didn’t want to disturb me because it’s my day off. A very respectful attitude. Why should being a celebrity be any different? They get recognised more but people should also recognise and respect boundaries. Just because one celebrity lets you approach them, don’t assume they all will. They don’t owe you anything. Yes, you may have spent time and money on them but they produced the art you enjoy in the first place. That is what they gave you for you fandom. If you think it’s a ‘bad look’ then just move on and don’t follow her anymore. That’s up to you. But we don’t really need a storm in a teacup to discredit her or any criticism of her general position. Some of the initial posts in here remind me of this Homer Simpson quote from about 30 years ago. ‘If celebrities didn't want people pawing through their garbage and saying they're gay, they shouldn't have tried to express themselves creatively.’ That was supposed to be a gag, but some seem to genuinely believe it.- Now That's What I Call Music!
I’ll get this as a completist but I’m not rushing to buy it. They should just kill this series off now.- EastEnders

Sandra scalping Zoe was a highlight. It has felt in recent months that they’ve put a massive emphasis on blood relations so it’s great to see Josh and Sandra being so close. - Chappell Roan security guard controversy
