  2. 71 XMAS UK chart peak: #1 From: Kylie Christmas: Fully Wrapped 72 Magic UK chart peak: #53 From: DISCO 73 Midnight Ride with Orville Peck & Diplo UK chart peak: N/A 74 On oublie le reste Jenifer feat. Kylie Minogue UK chart peak: N/A 75 Lights Camera Action UK chart peak: #59 From: Tension II Two more collaborations exiting here. Among the swathe of dance collaborations that - by now is no secret - I really wasn't enjoying and was making me come to an impasse of sorts with Kylie, Midnight Ride stands out as a real highlight to me. It's different to the others, has some twang to it that's really infectious, but of course it was also lumped in with the likes of My Oh My, Edge of Saturday Night and Dance Alone on Tension II. Although I wouldn't consider myself a fan of Orville Peck, he and Kylie on a track together just works and they compliment one another really well. Kylie featured on Jenifer's song On oublie le reste, the fifth and final single from the latter's eighth studio album Nouvelle Page. Born from Jenifer wanting to sample Can't Get You Out of My Head, it was sent to Kylie and got the seal of approval. It's a great song, probably one that's easily forgotten about among some more high-profile collaborations. This, to me, is a fine example of the type of collaborations Kylie should be jumping on (and can be proud of). Speaking of Tension II, Lights Camera Action lands at #75. Don't get me wrong, I do like it, but when it was released initially I really wasn't feeling it. Again, likely in part because both Tension and Tension II never fully landed for me. It's a slick bop, and I've enjoyed warming to it more watching the Tension Tour on Netflix, seeing it really come to life live and with repeated listens. A classic, though? The jury's still out. Say Something really lit a flame and had me so excited for the DISCO era that was upon us; Kylie truly bringing the magic during dark times for everybody. And then second single Magic continued the groovy disco vibes with a much more classic feel. Now though, it doesn't really feel like essential Kylie despite, at home on DISCO as a package, being a really fun and joyous song that sets the tone for the rest of the album perfectly. It took me quite a while to get around to listening to XMAS because I really don't have the time for most of these Amazon Music originals that are never distributed to other streaming platforms and can be unnecessarily difficult to listen to. I still can't make my mind up most of the time whether I actually love the song because I think it's great, or love it in a camp kind of way because it's just milking the continuation of Kylie Christmas for all it's worth at this point. Here's to Kylie Christmas: Fully Wrapped and Neatly Placed Under the Tree (2030 Version). But hey, it gave Kylie another UK #1 at a time where she has been enjoying so much more success again.

New comedy starring Diane Morgan and Sue Johnston is coming next month! And no, Doctor Who fans, it’s not what we would want it to be

Could really do without those three tacked on the end and more original songs than just three we haven’t already heard, but alas that’s the way of it these days. So much to be excited about I’m sad I missed out on the alternate artwork that was only available to those that pre-ordered a while back, because to me that’s a lot better than the standard.
  5. Was kinda hoping they’d just forget about Dani Dyer, but predictable really

I think what we the show is in desperate need of now is a clear break away from RTD (which is becoming increasingly likely) and writers similar to him that no matter what the stories are always give the same vibe. McTighe seems like the most likely successor but I'm just not convinced we wouldn't get more of the same, or at least something Chibnall-esque given his love for the Classic era. We really do need the Daleks and/or Cybermen back, but the Master on the other hand should be rested for quite a while in my opinion. The Master has dominated quite a big chunk of NuWho, appearing in series 3, the 2008-9 specials, series 8, 9, 10, 12, The Power of the Doctor, and then alluded to in RTD2. It's just far too much.
  11. 76 Better Than Today UK chart peak: #32 From: Aphrodite 77 GBI (German Bold Italic) TOWA TEI feat. Kylie Minogue & Haruomi Hosono UK chart peak: #63 78 Give Me Just a Little More Time UK chart peak: #2 From: Let's Get to It 79 Edge of Saturday Night with The Blessed Madonna UK chart peak: N/A 80 Music's Too Sad Without You with Jack Savoretti UK chart peak: N/A From: Golden We're at the point now where we're veering away from the collaborations that don't really stack up at all and ones that can confidently and strongly sit among some of her solo singles. Music's Too Sad Without You has had its fans for as long as the Golden era has existed, and it's a beautiful song. Kylie and Jack sound great together. The final single from the Golden era, for me I think it was nice at the time but it's not one I ever find myself going back to unless I'm having a moment to appreciate that era as a whole. Edge of Saturday Night, once again, for me falls into that category of pointless dance collaborations, but it's absolutely one of the strongest. Initially released on The Blessed Madonna's album Godspeed and later included on Tension II, RAYE also had a hand in writing this song; not a far cry from something I could imagine her featuring on too. It's probably one I should give more time of day to, too, because when I listen I find myself getting really into it. The creative process for GBI (German Bold Italic) puts into perspective a lot of how things shaped up for Kylie afterwards since reaching out to TOWAI TEI by fax to work with him. That and Sometime Samurai came about when they worked together in the late nineties, but it wasn't until almost a decade later in 2005 that Sometime Samurai was finally finished and saw the light of day, feeling like a sequel of sorts and having a moment to shine during the KylieX2008 tour. GBI is great, and feels like the kind of interesting collaboration that Kylie is capable of when she's working with the right people. Visually stunning too and very conceptual, but perhaps not something we'd imagine seeing a re-tread of today. As far as solo singles go, here we lose Give Me Just a Little More Time and Better Than Today. The former is catchy and is certainly one of the more memorable songs from Let's Get to It, even if at times vocally it feels a little unnatural of Kylie almost like she's shouting at you in a way that her delicate vocals never would on any other song. I guess it follows on perfectly from Word Is Out though, which feels like a bit of a twin sister in a sense in that they both have similar deliveries before the album settles into a more brooding, captivating and inviting style from Finer Feelings onwards. Fast forward to 2010 and we have Better Than Today, a single that was always going to pale following on from pop perfection Get Outta My Way. Looking back today, as a standalone single Better Than Today could probably get away with being a signature tongue-in-cheek moment for Kylie that delivers dance-pop in a brilliant, fun way but when you consider this song's home is Aphrodite, it automatically becomes one of the weakest songs on the album. That speaks more on the strength of Aphrodite though, this is enjoyable but there are other similar songs that do what this does much better (cough, Put Your Hands Up, cough).
  12. 81 Kiss of Life with Jessie Ware UK chart peak: N/A From: DISCO: Guest List Edition 82 100 Degrees with Dannii Minogue UK chart peak: N/A From: Kylie Christmas 83 10 Out of 10 with Oliver Heldens UK chart peak: N/A From: Tension 84 last night i dreamt i fell in love with Alok UK chart peak: N/A 85 Dance Alone with Sia UK chart peak: #60 A pattern emerges now, and - shock horror - all five songs rounding out the bottom 20 singles are collaborations. Kylie collaborating with Sia, on paper, sounds like it should be a monumental pop song along the lines of some of Sia's work with David Guetta, or even (in my own humble opinion) Sia's collaboration with Zayn Malik on Dusk Till Dawn. Sadly though, what we end up with is another throwaway, generic lite dance bop. Again, it's not bad by any means, perfectly listenable and does the job but not one I'd go back to through choice. A double whammy of collaborations with DJs follows, last night i dreamt i fell in love with Alok and then 10 Out of 10 with Oliver Heldens. The former, much like My Oh My but with a little more likability and replay factor, falls into that pesky category of unnecessary dance collaborations that are becoming formative of how Kylie approaches collaborations today as if there isn't an audience for anything beyond it. 10 Out of 10, for me, really only makes it as high as #83 in the countdown because I've become used to it and bopped along to it a fair bit given the availability of the song as an emote in the video game Fortnite. Real ones know. It saddens me that Kylie and Dannii have such incredible chemistry together, yet when they come together to collaborate on music it seems to be locked in a box of them only appearing on stage together to share beautiful, heart-warming moments; not actually bring anything groundbreaking to the studio. 100 Degrees is a nice song, and definitely one of the better collaborations (and songs, overall) on Kylie Christmas. It just leaves me wanting so much more from them as a duo, however. Where is the undeniably iconic pop song of the summer that would leave the fanbase shook to their core? After being bullied into working with Jessie Ware (by Jessie's own admission, jokingly), they finally did on the Guest List Edition of DISCO. Kiss of Life is nice and all, but to me it feels more like a Jessie Ware by numbers song rather than a Kylie Minogue song that Jessie's lent herself to. Better than, but not by miles, a lot of the other features on the album and you can feel yourself warming up into the disco groove when it gets going, but not an essential.

Hate to say it but I’ve just finished series 2 and thought it was bad compared to series 1. Still some enjoyable moments and most of the cast are really enjoyable to watch, but it was a bit of a struggle.
  14. 86 Someone For Me YouNotUs Remix UK chart peak: N/A 87 Limpido with Laura Pausini UK chart peak: N/A 88 Every Day's Like Christmas UK chart peak: N/A From: Kylie Christmas 89 Really don't like u Tove Lo feat. Kylie Minogue UK chart peak: N/A 90 Tears on My Pillow UK chart peak: #1 From: Enjoy Yourself Time for a likely controversial low placement now as we have a number one single dropping out with Tears on My Pillow at #90. I personally think Enjoy Yourself as a body of work gets quite a hard time (as recently as the last few days I've seen people tearing it apart on social media, either because it's the first time they're listening after watching the documentary, or because they feel comfortable enough saying it knowing a fair amount will agree). There's so much to, ahem, enjoy on her second album, but Tears on My Pillow, for me, is not one especially sat alongside the likes of Hand on Your Heart, Never Too Late, Wouldn't Change a Thing and I'm Over Dreaming (Over You). The list of collaborations and Christmas songs continue to have grenades thrown at them, starting with Kylie's second song with Tove Lo; her feature on Really don't like u, the fourth single from Tove's fourth album Sunshine Kitty. It's an inoffensive song at best, with a decent enough story told through its lyrics and visuals but ultimately just another collaboration that I could take or leave (sorry Bal). Kylie jumped on Italian singer Laura Pausini's single Limpido, the lead single from her Greatest Hits album, in 2013. Perhaps a powerful-sounding single at the time, but listening now it feels dated and very much belongs in the era it was founded and released. And then, without sounding too harsh a critic of the Tension era, we have Someone For Me (albeit from Tension II) that was spruced up with a YouNotUs Remix. For me, it doesn't really add much more especially considering the original is one of the only songs worth talking about from Tension II. It really is nice that Kylie's in a place where people do still want to work with her, but there comes a point when collaborations just become too much. Let's get back to focusing on some brilliant solo material stat, please. Kylie Christmas takes another hit with Every Day's Like Christmas at the bottom end of the list. For me, it's not so much that I don't enjoy the songs themselves and I can understand why some were chosen as singles over others, but most of my favourites from all her forays into Christmas music are other notable covers and album tracks. Perhaps subconsciously knowing it was written by Chris Martin is another reason it ends up so low down; maybe I'm just not a fan of his and Kylie's work together.

  16. 91 Celebration UK chart peak: #20 From: Greatest Hits (1992) 92 Can't Stop Writing Songs About You with Gloria Gaynor UK chart peak: N/A From: DISCO: Guest List Edition 93 The Other Boys NERVO feat. Kylie Minogue, Jake Shears & Nile Rodgers UK chart peak: N/A 94 Lhuna Coldplay feat. Kylie Minogue UK chart peak: N/A 95 Only You with James Corden UK chart peak: #155 From: Kylie Christmas We say goodbye to another four collaborations (spoiler: more to come low down on the list; further proof to me that Kylie excels on her own and not when other artists become involved or she's jumping onto a song for another artist), and included in here are a couple of covers too. Only You is another of the Christmas Kylie singles that just don't work for me, notably due to James Corden's involvement. It's a pleasant enough cover of Yazoo's 1982 song but had it been Kylie on her own could it have been remarkably better? Who knows. Lhuna marked the first time Coldplay had collaborated with a female artist, and was a charity single released to support World AIDS Day. While it's not bad by any means, I have to agree with David Bowie - who declined the offer to collaborate on it - that it's not one of their best. So despite the good cause and atmospheric vocals from Kylie, it belongs down here. Kylie's no stranger to working with Jake Shears, and while The Other Boys is a perfectly serviceable dance bop, it again falls into that category of Kylie jumping on dance collaborations when really she could be doing a hundred other better things (albeit this was 10 years prior to the real infiltration of dance collaborations). I had to listen to Can't Stop Writing Songs About You quite a few times before deciding where to rank it here, and while she and Gloria Gaynor sound great together, it's pretty run-of-the-mill and doesn't offer anything quite as exciting as the songs on the standard edition of DISCO (can also be said for the majority of Guest List Edition). There's no denying that Celebration - Kylie's cover of Kool & the Gang's 1980 single - is a bit of a bop. It was originally intended to be included on Let's Get to It, but was later released instead on her 1992 Greatest Hits album. As far as how it compares to 90% of the rest of the singles here, sadly I can't say it holds up. Performed live though, truly a celebration.
  17. I haven't included those types of charity singles where she's part of an ensemble, sorry
  18. There’s already a thread for this, merged!
  19. 96 My Oh My with Bebe Rexha & Tove Lo UK chart peak: #63 97 I Was Gonna Cancel UK chart peak: #59 From: Kiss Me Once 98 We Are One with Verbal UK chart peak: N/A 99 Wonderful Christmastime with MIKA UK chart peak: N/A From: Kylie Christmas: Snow Queen Edition 100 Monkey Man with The Wiggles UK chart peak: N/A Perhaps a dubious inclusion in the countdown but alas it was something that happened nonetheless, Kylie's collaboration with The Wiggles takes the wooden spoon here, a charity single released in support of UNICEF. I've always felt of all the Christmas albums we have out there now in what's become quite a saturated market Kylie's one artist that has capitalised on and done Christmas songs really well. Sadly though, Wonderful Christmastime with MIKA doesn't quite hit the spot in the same way others do; certainly not among some of the better covers. Charity single We Are One, the second to appear here, with Japanese rapper Verbal, was released in support of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami victims in 2011 and while Kylie's vocals are decent enough it falls into 'very obviously a cheap charity single' tropes. I Was Gonna Cancel has never been a favourite of mine and was always going to rank low here behind the majority of her other singles. I find it such a shame that it belongs on Kiss Me Once too because it's an album that is subject to far more hate than it actually deserves and could still have done more had this not put the final nail in the coffin. Barring one or two others, on the whole Kiss Me Once is an album full of essential Kylie. And finally here, the first of two collaborations with Tove Lo, My Oh My is the epitome of where Kylie was starting to lose me for a while with so many dance collaborations just being thrown out. Sure, it completely matches the vibes of the Tension era, but it's just not for me.
  20. Following the release of Kylie's Netflix documentary, I've found myself diving back into her discography a lot, rediscovering old favourites and warming up (slightly) to recent singles having found myself drifting away during both the Tension and Tension II eras. And so I've ranked 100 of Kylie's singles - as main artist, as featured artist, and some others thrown in for good measure (no complaints if it's not as definitive as you'd like, please x). I'm sure I tried to do this years ago and can't remember if I ever finished it, but this time we shall get there. I'll reveal the singles in order of least favourite to favourite, but I do have a lot of love for the majority of Kylie's singles discography, and there's at least something good to be found in the outliers and outright disasters. Hope you can all join me and step back in time right from the beginning in 1987 to now with Light Up being released to accompany the documentary, and feel free to share your thoughts.

  24. Yeah for what it’s worth (#late), I think it’s a thread I would’ve had in the Little Mix AF instead of Pop, regardless of it being Lily’s song as the main artist. A limited-time link to the thread from Pop wouldn’t be much of an issue either given there’s plenty discussion happening in both for people to want to visit the AF and discuss it.
