  2. You're gonna have to see through my perspective ]PZYSiWHW8V0 12. Overprotected | 8.52 Highest Scores: 11: (Scene), 10: (Anita Hanjaab, Slayer, Nick F1, blacksquare, Tafty), Lowest Scores: 5.5: (pippa) At #12 is the original & best version of Overprotected, released in December 2001 as the 2nd international single from her self-titled 3rd studio album Britney. The song was remixed by Darkchild for the American market where it was released as the album's 3rd single in April 2002. Written and produced by Max Martin & Rami, while Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins produced the R&B version. Lyrically the song is about girl who is tired of being overprotected and just wants to be herself. Upon release it received generally positive reviews & attained commercial success internationally by reaching top 5 peaks in Sweden, Romania, Italy & UK, as well as hitting top 10 & 20 peaks in several countries such as Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Spain, France & Australia. In 2003, the song received a nomination for a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The track also appeared in in the 2019 Max Martin jukebox musical "& Juliet". The song appears in Act 1, where it is performed by Francois and Juliet. I think many at the time saw this as something of a step back when compared to the bold lead single, but if you actually pay attention to this song then you'll realize that its a true emancipation from her girl-next-door persona, with its aggressive delivery such as the pounding beats, electronic synths and her defiant vocal delivery. Okay there may be a few similarites between this & her earlier material, which can be a given since they were done by the same team, but here the production's far more punchier and the lyrics are more relevant to Britney herself & yet still retains that catchiness that we've become accustomed to when listening to a Britney single. This is a cracking tune that perfectly represented third album and its theme of stepping forward into adulthood. Of note this would be the last Max Martin penned track until they worked together on her 2009 hit "3".
  3. Ready for another entry
  4. There will be another entry posted later this evening & it will be a UK top 5 hit Any guesses?
  5. But tell me, what happens when it stops? 4vvBAONkYwI 13. Lucky | 8.5 Highest Scores: 11: (Eduardo), 10: (Nina West, spiceboy, Anita Hanjaab, Slayer, Nick F1, Herbs), Lowest Scores: 6/6.5: (Jade, ready for it, blacksquare) At #13 is Lucky, released in July 2000 as the 2nd single from Britney's 2nd studio album Oops I Did It Again. Written by Max Martin & Rami Yacoub with additional ci-writing from Alexander Kronlund, & produced by Max & Rami. After meeting with producers Max Martin and Rami Yacoub in Sweden, the singer recorded numerous songs for the album, including "Lucky". The song's narrative follows the story of the eponymous famous actress, who, despite seemingly having it all – fame, wealth, beauty – is truly lonely and unhappy on the inside. Upon release it received critical acclaim & became a global success by topping the charts in Austria, Germany, Sweden & Switzerland, while reaching top 5 peaks in several other countries such as Canada, Ireland, Australia, Netherlands, New Zealand & in the UK, where it became her 6th top 5 hit in a row, and to date ranks as her 10th best selling single over there. This was quite a bold single choice at the time - a mid-tempo ballad that explores the dark side of fame that would become more foreboding to Britney later on in her career. Honestly I don't think anyone at the time thought that this tragic tale would become true & was nothing more than the singer telling a story. In hind sight many of us thought that she'd release a uptempo bop for the album's 2nd single such as 'Stronger', but poor "Lucky's" story deserved to be heard & its an epic number that carries just as much meaning as it did back then. Although the uplifting production with its crashing drum sounds, brooding synth beats & light soaring melodies does undermine the sadness of the lyrics somewhat, but the track exudes so much brilliance thanks to its euphoric chorus, brilliant hooks & the excellent key change towards the latter half really elevates it a whole other level. So glad that this has done so well on here with a healthy average of 8.5 as in my opinion its one of Britney's finest recordings of her career.
  6. Spotlight on me and I'm ready to break lVhJ_A8XUgc 14. Circus | 8.458 Highest Scores: 10: (Slayer, Nick F1, TimConArtist, ready for it, Nick Jonas, Eduardo, Roba), Lowest Scores: 6/6.5: (blacksquare, Scene) At #14 is Circus, released in December 2008 as the 2nd single from Britney's 6th studio album of the same name. Written by Dr. Luke, Claude Kelly and Benny Blanco, and the the song is metaphor for the public's perception of Britney's life. After she listened to the track for the first time, she felt inspired to create an album and a tour with a circus theme. The lyrics talk about being an entertainer and putting on shows. Upon release it was well received by contemporary critics, and became a commercial success by reaching top 10 peaks in several countries such as Australia, Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, Sweden, and in the USA, as well as top 20 peaks in Germany, Ireland, UK, Austria & Switzerland. Worldwide the song was one of the top 10 best selling songs of 2009 with 5.5 Million digital copies sold that year. This is a really strong pop track which blends a few elements of R&B into a stomping electro pop track with harsh synth stabs during the verses before we head into the grinding basslines throughout the addictively catchy chorus. The production is stellar and that dance breakdown with thundering beats is simply fantastic and does a great job of keeping the momentum going throughout. Okay the lyrical theme of fame isn't new by any means, but this was very reflective tone of what the album had to offer and well it's just a killer tune all round and a perfect follow up to the smash hit lead single.
  7. It's been a while eQFIKP9rGhQ 15. Break The Ice | 8.375 Highest Scores: 11: (TimConArtist, GTH, blacksquare), 10: (Slayer, Nick F1, Nick Jonas, Tafty, Eduardo, Lukuzz), Lowest Scores: 1: (Jessie Where) #15 is Break The Ice, released in March 2008 as the 3rd and final single from Britney's 5h studio album Blackout. The song was written by Nate "Danja" Hills, Jim Beanz, Keri Hilson and Marcella Araica, while production was handled by Danja and vocal production was handled by Beanz. "Radar" was originally planned to be the album's 3rd single, but this track was released instead after it was chosen by a poll on Britney's official website, where it received 39% of the total votes. The original concept for the music video was to have chair dancing sequence similar to the video for "Stronger". However, due to her personal life struggles at the time, this idea was cancelled and Spears came up with the idea for creating an animated video instead & was also meant to have a remix featuring Fabulous for its single release, but again that was scrapped. Upon release it received critical acclaim from music critics & became a moderate success commercially by reaching top 10 peaks in Canada, Ireland & Finland, then charting within the top 40 in several other countries such as Sweden, UK, Australia, New Zealand & Germany. In the USA it reached a moderate #43 peak, becoming her 17th chart entry there. A little interesting fact for you guys, despite being the lowest ranking 'Blackout' single, it in fact gained the more 11's than the other 2 higher ranking singles. Trying to choose singles from an album packed with cutting edge gems must be a daunting task, so that's why the label left it up to the fans to choose one and they choose correctly with this instant standout moment which was an excellent choice with its atmospheric and well crafted electro grooves, icy synths, crunchy beats, & slick production, all of which makes this a brilliant track that deserved so much more success than it got. A very different yet adventurous offering from Britney despite coming from a very turbulent time in her personal life, showed that she wasn't afraid to take risks and deliver something incredible.
  8. Hotter than the A-list qzU9OrZlKb8 16. Till The World Ends | 8.145 Highest Scores: 11: (Chapman), 10: (Nina West, spiceboy, Slayer, Nick F1, TimConArtist, Nick Jonas), Lowest Scores: 5/5.5: (blacksquare, Pandamic Tension, Scene) At #16 is Till The World Ends, released in March 2011 as the 2nd single from Britney's 7th studio album Femme Fatale. Written by Kesha, Dr. Luke, Alexander Kronlund, and Max Martin, while the production was handled by Luke, Max Martin and Billboard. The song was treated with different remixes for its release, most notably the 'Femme Fatale Remix', featuring rapper Nicki Minaj and Kesha, which was released in April 2011. Upon release it received universal acclaim from critics with many deeming it far stronger than the album's lead single 'Hold It Against Me' & attained international success, hitting top 10 peaks in several countries including Australia, France, Ireland, New Zealand, Sweden & Switzerland. In the USA it was also successful with the solo version reaching the top 10 , becoming her 11th top 10 hit there. The Femme Fatale remix propelled the single into the top 5 in both the USA & Canada. In the UK it underperformed on the charts by peaking at #21, making this her 2nd single to miss the top 20 & 2nd lowest charting single behind 'Radar' in 2009. The song appeared on several best songs of the year lists, such 'Rolling Stone', 'The Village Voice' & was voted by readers as the Best Song of the 2010s on 'Billboard' The last of Britney's 2010's era to feature here as well being the final 'Femme Fatale' to drop out. This was easily the best thing to come from an otherwise generic era with this cracking piece of electro dance pop with its thumping bassline, swirling synths, sleek electronic dance grooves & a catchy chorus which thanks to the euphoric production makes everything sound gigantic & instantly commands your attention. This club ready banger is just pure joy through and through, and with it being the opening track to 'FF' sets the tone perfectly. This deserved to be so much bigger in the UK as it easily outshines everything else Britney did during the 2010's.
  9. Yes I remember that parody, I remember the French & Saunders one which was hilarious, pity its not on YouTube.
  10. Hey Britney, we can dance all night long clwLKJ294u4 17. Me Against The Music (ft Madonna) | 8.145 Highest Scores: 10: (Nina West, Anita Hanjaab, Slayer, Nick F1, One For Sorrow), Lowest Scores: 4/4.5: (Jessie Where, pippa) At #17 is the collaboration between Britney & Madonna - Me Against The Music, released in October 2003 as the lead single from Britney's 4th studio album In The Zone. Written by Britney, Madonna, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, Thabiso "Tab" Nikhereanye, Penelope Magnet, Terius Nash and Gary O'Brien, with production helmed by Penelope & Tricky known collectively as RedZone Entertainment. The producers came up with the song after bonding with Britney in New York & one of the other tracks they presented was titled 'Pop Culture Whore', which her management like, but Britney rejected. During rehearsals for the 2003 MTV Music Video Awards, Britney played a finished version of 'MATM' & asked her to collaborate & she accepted. Upon release the song received mixed reviews from critics, but nonetheless it became a commercial success by topping the charts in Australia, Denmark, Hungary, Ireland & Spain, as well as hitting top 5 peaks in several other countries such as Canada, UK, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands & Sweden. In the USA it managed a #35 peak on the Top 100 Billboard charts, making this Britney's 10th chart entry & Madonna's 50th. It was also the first song in chart history to credit Madonna as a featured artist, This was certainly a well timed duet as it came months after their high profile MTV Music Video Awards performance which caused a massive stir & grabbed many headlines across the globe. Having both legendary artists capitalize on that moment with a fun upbeat song was a smart move. I know this isn't considered one of Britney's better leading singles & the fact that it got overshadowed by the follow up 'Toxic', but I've always loved this defiant upbeat pop R&B number with its intense verses, frantic guitar riffs, throbbing beats & of course Britney's rapid fire vocals are slick and tight which really helps this catchy number pop. The addition of Madonna really elevates the production & just her presence alone makes everything worthwhile. Sure this song isn't nowhere near represents the best of each artist, but its an entertaining bop and does a decent job of setting Britney up for one of her most career defining and successful eras.
  11. A spirit born of earth and water qExVlz3zb0k 18. Hold Me Closer (ft Elton John) | 7.812 Highest Scores: 10: (Slayer, Nick F1, Nick Jonas), Lowest Scores: 1: (One For Sorrow) At #18 is Hold Me Closer, a collaboration between Elton John & Britney Spears, released in August 2022 as a single from the digital reissue of Elton John's collaborative album The Lockdown Sessions. The song combines elements of Elton's songs "Tiny Dancer", "The One", & "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" . This marked Britney's first new release in 6 years and her first release after the termination of her controversial conservatorship. Upon release it had a polarized critical reception, but nonetheless became a commercial success by topping the charts in 4 countries including Australia & Hungary, and reached top 10 peaks in 19 countries, including the UK & USA. In the UK it became her 24th top 10 hit & highest charting single in 10 years, while earning Elton John his 35th top 10 hit. Throughout the rate this & 'MOW' constantly swapped places, this managed to edge out in front at the very last minute. While it was nice to see Britney getting a big hit again, however, I am surprised that this has managed to rank so high on here, especially given the many better and more iconic songs it has beaten. This is not a bad effort by any means with the idea of 2 legendary icons of music collaborating together is always a welcome surprise, even if this doesn't quite hit the mark the same way his previous hit 'Cold Heart' did. The song itself is a fun effort with its thick basslines gliding through the poppy production quite well and mash ups of his songs flows quite nicely. The vocals from both artists are way too autotuned and the layered textures feels a little off, but the piano, synths, melodies & guitars saves this from being a total loss. An decent effort overall even if doesn't take any real risks, at least it put Britney back in the charts again where she belongs.
  12. Another will drop this evening & it will be a UK Top 3 hit There's 10 of them left, but which one?
  13. He'll be all my own in a big red bow _MzumcY3lpk 19. My Only Wish (This Year) | 7.77 Highest Scores: 10: (Slayer, Nick F1, pippa, Nick Jonas, Tafty), Lowest Scores: 4/4.5: (Scene, Eduardo) At #19 is Britney's X-Mas classic My Only Wish (This Year), written and produced by Brian Kierulf and Josh Schwartz. It was originally included on the Christmas compilation album Platinum Christmas from the year 2000. At the time the song received mixed reviews from contemporary music critics. However, close to a decade after its release, reviewers felt the song was considered a modern holiday classic. In November 2020 the song was released as a promo single on streaming platforms 20 years after the album's release and has managed to chart in several countries worldwide thanks to strong digital downloads. To date it has managed top 40 peaks Denmark, South Korea, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary & Netherlands. It has also charted in both the UK & USA where it has earned gold discs in both countries for sales of 400,000 (UK) & 500,000 (USA) respectively. Since its release & resurge in popularity the song has been covered by many artists including Meghan Trainor who covered it in 2020 for her X-Mas album 'A Very Trainor Christmas' (awful title). In 2021, the song was ranked as one of the 100 Best Christmas Songs of All Time, by Billboard. In 2023, Forbes listed it as one of the 15 Most Iconic Christmas Pop Songs. Honestly I didn't know this existed until a couple of years ago when it was added to streaming, YES I know I'm a bad Britney fan for never hearing this. However, after hearing this fun little bouncy retro number I was quite pleasantly surprised with its joyful production, cute chorus & catchy melodies that despite being recorded more than 20 years ago, it has aged remarkably well and totally fits in with today's modern landscape. Normally I'm not one for X-Mas songs and while this is a solid effort, it ain't gonna change my mind anytime soon. On the whole its a pleasant enough bop.
  14. People can take everything away from you dIOH8Trfas4 20. My Prerogative | 7.708 Highest Scores: 10: (spiceboy, Anita Hanjaab, Slayer, Nick F1, Scene), Lowest Scores: 1: (Pandamic Tension) Kicking off the top 20 at #20 is Britney's cover of the Bobby Brown hit My Prerogative, released in September 2004 as the lead single from Britney's first greatest hits compilation, titled Greatest Hits: My Prerogative. Britney's cover version is musically different from its original version, with the bass and new jack swing sound replaced with a synthpop sound & synthesizers courtesy of Swedish production team Bloodshy & Avant, who also produced her single 'Toxic' from her 4th studio album 'In The Zone'. Despite the lyrics not deviating much from the original version, instead they are changed to fit a woman's perspective & could be interpreted as a statement on Britney's life and the media reaction to some of her decisions at the time, including her engagement to American dancer Kevin Federline. Upon release the song received mixed to unfavourable reviews from contemporary critics, but nonetheless became successful worldwide by topping the charts in Finland, Italy, Ireland & Norway, as well as hitting top 10 peaks in several countries such as Belgium, Germany, UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Australia & Austria. However, in the USA it failed to chart on the Hot 100 peaking at a mere #101 on the bubbling under charts, making this her first and to date only lead single not to chart on the Top 100. Now this is quite surprising, didn't think that this would have ended up in the top 20 (even if it's only just grazing it), but nonetheless its still ranked there. On the one hand it did make sense for Britney to release a greatest hits album at this point in her career, even if it was driven by a series of events such as her knee injury she sustained a few months prior which ended her tour and ended the 'In The Zone' album cycle despite having plenty of mileage in it & her whirlwind romance with Kevin Federline, which meant that she would be taking time off anyway so why not release a compilation celebrating her fantastic discography. Okay releasing a cover can be a total cop out move, thankfully this was a really good effort that felt very approropite for that moment. The harsh electro basslines, the bhangra tinged production & dramatic strings works wonders along with the beat snaps, crashing synths and breathy vocals helps Britney make this cover her own & its certainly one of the better cover versions from a decade that was literally full of them, especially in the UK where pretty much every pop act at the time released one every month.
  15. Before the top 20 Britney countdown begins here's a reminder of what's left from each era: Baby One More Time - 3/5 Oops I Did It Again - 3/4 Britney - 2/7 In The Zone - 3/4 Blackout - 3/3 Circus - 2/4 Femme Fatale - 1/4 Britney Jean - 0/2 Glory - 0/5 Greatest Hits - 1/3 Collaborations/Other - 2/9 As you can see both 'Britney Jean' & 'Glory' have lost all their singles & are therefore out of the running. 'Femme Fatale' has only 1 left despite having all 4 make the top 30, only 1 managed a top 20 placement here. 'Blackout' is the only album to still have all its singles in the top 20, making this the most popular era on Buzzjack. 'Baby One More Time', Oops I Did It Again' & 'In The Zone' each has 3 of their songs left. Then finally 'Britney' & 'Circus' each has 2 songs left in the running.

  18. There's things about me you just have to know t0bPrt69rag 21. Sometimes | 7.687 Highest Scores: 10: (Herbs), Lowest Scores: 2: (Anita Hanjaab) Just falling short of the top 20 at #21 is Sometimes, released in April 1999 as the 2nd single from Britney's debut album Baby One More Time. Written by Jörgen Elofsson and produced by Elofsson, Per Magnusson and David Kreuger. Jive Records and Britney Spears A&R Steve Lunt said when the song was pitched, the lyrics had much more adult lyrics. Lunt gave the note that the song would be recorded by a teenager and therefore lyrics needed to be changed. Upon release it achieved worldwide success by topping the charts in Belgium, Netherlands & New Zealand, while hitting top 5 peaks in Australia, UK, Finland, Sweden & Ireland. In the USA it peaked at #21 on the US Billboard charts, despite enjoying heavy airplay, it wasn't given a physical release in order to drive even more album sales. The song created controversy over the writing credits. Steve Wallace, an Indiana songwriter, claimed he wrote "Sometimes" in 1990, but did not copyright it until 2003, four years after Britney registered the song's copyright. There was a claim of an e-mail being sent from Britney herself backing up this claim, but it was considered fake and the lawsuit was dismissed in 2005. While this was never really a contender for the top 20 on here, it did slowly gain momentum throughout the rate after originally starting at the lower end of the top 30, but thanks to the slew of 9 scores it managed to settle at it's USA peak of #21. Who doesn't love a good old fashioned 90's heartbreak ballad & talk about a shocking contrast to the teen pop vixen Britney showed with her debut single & then slowing things down with this romantic girl next door bubblegum pop ballad. The keyboard synth melodies & gentle guitar strums gives this track a lovely dreamlike quality to it as the simple yet effective production helps everything flow smoothly as heads towards a very satisfying key change where Britney really gets to stretch her impressive vocals and display some impressive ab-libs. I've always loved this song and it deserves a lot more attention, the perfect follow up to an iconic debut single.
  19. The next entry will be a 2nd single, but which one?
  20. Here comes the smasher, here comes the master pt8VYOfr8To 22. Work Bitch | 7.666 Highest Scores: 11: (Slayer), 10: (Nina West, spiceboy, Jessie Where, Nick F1, TimConArtist, Nick Jonas, Mack), Lowest Scores: 1: (JLJ) #22 is Work Bitch, released in September 2013 as the lead single from Britney's 8th studio album Britney Jean. Written by Britney, will.i.am, Otto Knows, Sebastian Ingrosso, Anthony Preston and Ruth-Anne Cunningham. The song's production was handled by Ingrosso, Jettman and Adams, while vocal production was done by Adams and Preston. In preparation for the single and album, Britney began working with a vocal coach and choreography collaboratively. Upon release the song garnered critical acclaim, with praise drawn towards its production and female empowerment lyrics. Worldwide it became a success with top 10 peaks in 14 countries including Canada, France, Spain, Italy & UK. In the USA it debuted & peaked at #12 on the Top 100, making this her 31st chart entry. Planet Hollywood reported that the music video's total production and editing costs amounted to $6.5 million, which makes it the 2nd most expensive music video of all-time. Upon the reporting, director Ben Mor claimed that the costs were nowhere near that amount. Quite shocked that this didn't rank in the top 20 here especially given the decent amount of high scores it got, however, there were quite a few lower & middling rates also which caused it drop considerably & if it wasn't for the 2 newer songs taking part, then this would have secured a top 20 ranking. This relentless EDM pop banger is probably Britney's last iconic hit to date, which is unfortunate & it doesn't help that her output since this hasn't been quite as consistant as it once was. This song makes a very bold statement that commands your attention in some of the best ways possible with its aggressive production, harsh synths & catchy hooks that helps makes this instantly memorable. Even Britney's almost spoken word vocal delivery makes for an interesting yet risky move & despite the song being very repetitive at times, it totally works. Shame that the rest of the album couldn't quite live up to this cracking club banging tune.

  22. 'Cause, you feel like paradise And I need a vacation tonight -Edv8Onsrgg 23. Hold It Against Me | 7.666 Highest Scores: 10: (Nina West, spiceboy, Slayer, Nick F1, TimConArtist, Tafty), Lowest Scores: 0: (Anita Hanjaab) #23 is Hold It Against Me, released in January 2011 as the lead single from Britney's 7th studio album Femme Fatale. Written and produced by Max Martin, Dr. Luke and Billboard, with additional writing by Bonnie McKee. The song was originally offered to Katy Perry, but Luke and Martin felt that it did not suit her. The song was inspired by a moment when Bonnie McKee saw Katy Perry wearing a tight dress & after it was written Luke wanted it sound unlike his previous productions. Upon release it was a huge success by topping the charts in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, New Zealand, as well as on the US Billboard charts where it became her 4th #1 & made Britney the 2nd artist in Billboard's history to debut at the top more than once, behind Mariah Carey. Elsewhere it managed top 5 peaks in Australia, Ireland, Italy & Poland, as well as top 10 peaks in Spain, UK, Switzerland & Sweden. After the song was released, the Bellamy Brothers criticized it for being similar to their 1979 hit "If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me". They were sued by Martin, Luke, McKee and Billboard for defamation and libel, but the case was dismissed after the Bellamy Brothers apologized. From its thumping basslines, industrial EDM dance beats and pulsating synths certainly makes this one of Britney's most daring & adventurous moments in her career. But there's a somewhat lacking aspect to this club banging tune & that is its lack of that usual Britney personality, she does try to infuse the track with her husky vocal delivery & despite the soaring pop chorus & catchy melodies the song gets way too cluttered especially with its harsh dub-step breakdown full of scattered beats that somehow holds together, for lack of a better word she gets a little lost amongst the cluttered production. However, it's still a cracking tune if perhaps hasn't quite aged the best.
  23. The next 2 entries will have the same average & both are lead singles, but which ones?
