Before the countdown for the top 40 starts here's a little reminder of how many era tracks have left in the running = Mariah Carey – 3/5 Emotions – 3/3 Music Box – 4/5 Merry Christmas/I & II – 2/3 Daydream – 5/6 Butterfly – 5/5 Rainbow – 1/5 Glitter – 0/3 Charmbracelet – 2/4 The Emancipation of Mimi – 5/6 E=MC2 – 2/4 Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel – 1/5 Me I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse –1/4 Caution –1/2 Greatest Hits – 2/4 Other - 3/9 As you can see 'Glitter' is the only album to lose all of its singles so far & 'Emotions' & 'Butterfly' are the only albums to still have all of their singles still left in the running, but for how long?

There's just a shadow of a memory nScV1qu-MZQ 43. Forever | 6.55 Highest Scores: 10: (Liam.k.), Lowest Scores: 4.5: (Lukuzz) 42. Endless Love (ft Luther Vandross) | 6.642 Highest Scores: 9: (Josh), Lowest Scores: 3: (Jessie Where) 41. I Don't Wanna Cry | 6.642 Highest Scores: 9.5/9: (Bjork, vibe), Lowest Scores: 4: (dandy*) The first of the triple whammy of ballads in this section at #43 is Forever, released in June 1996 as an airplay only & 5th single from Mariah's 5th studio album Daydream. The song was written by Mariah and Walter Afanasieff, and was composed throughout 1995. Upon release the song served as an airplay only song in the USA and a limited release worldwide. Due to Billboard rules the song wasn't allowed to chart on the Hot 100 due to it not having a commercial release, despite gaining a decent amount of airplay which did allow it to chart on the component charts where it hit #2 on the A/C charts & top 10 on the Mainstream top 40. Elsewhere the track was a moderate success by hitting top 20 in Canada, top 40 in New Zealand, top 50 in The Netherlands as well as charting in the lower regions of Australia. This is a really nice ballad with its simple pianos, drum sequences and chord progression's that gives it that classic retro 50's style that sounds very convincing and Mariah again hitting those dramatic high notes when the key change comes towards the final verse. While this was a highlight on 'Daydream', however this does feel more like a deep album cut than an actual single. At #42 is Mariah's first ever "high profile" duet with Endless Love alongside American soul singer Luther Vandross. Released in August 1994 as the 2nd single from Luther's covers album simply titled Songs. The song was a cover of the classic Diana Ross & Lionel Richie hit from 1981. To give Luther's album a bigger boost it was Mariah who came up with the idea to remake the song as a duet with her. Although Luther's album was already set to contain one Lionel Richie composition, "Hello", it was obvious that having the most-popular female artist on the Sony label singing on the album would be a benefit. Upon release the song became a huge success by reaching a #2 peak on the US Billboard charts, making this Luther's highest charting pop hit of his career. Worldwide it was also a smash hit by topping the charts in New Zealand and hit top 5 peaks in UK, Australia, Ireland and Netherlands as well as reaching top 20 peaks in most countries it charted in. At the 1995 Grammy's the song was nominated in the new category of "Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals". I've always loved the original classic version of this track & Mariah and Luther do a bang up job with their version thanks to Luther's velvety soaring tenor & Mariah's beautiful five octane range that when combined together creates soothing harmonies and just an all round mesmerizing presence from 2 incredible artists. At #41 is I Don't Wanna Cry, released in March 1991 as the 4th single from Mariah's debut album Mariah Carey and was written by Mariah and producer Narada Michael Walden, Upon release the song was viewed as a standout track by music critics and gained a high amount of airplay in the USA where it became her 4th consecutive number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart, making her the second act to have their first four entries reach number one. Elsewhere it was also successful in Canada & New Zealand where it reaching top 10 & top 20 peaks respectively as well as a top 50 peak in Australia. This is a much more down tempo ballad than what we'd expect from Mariah especially at this very early point in her career. The Spanish/Latin tones adds a very nice yet sombre atmosphere to the whole production. Mariah really captures the heart wrenching sorrow of the lyrics and delivers some really powerful yet emotional vocals. Stunning ballad through and through.

If you cling to your pride and just push them aside DO1CQhwCiG0 46. Infinity | 6.35 Highest Scores: 10: (Lukuzz), Lowest Scores: 3: (vibe) 45. Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme) | 6.5 Highest Scores: 11: (Herbs), Lowest Scores: 4/4.5: (elgornio, Josh, vibe, dandy*) 44. Never Too Far | 6.5 Highest Scores: 10: (Liam.k.), Lowest Scores: 4.5: (Lukuzz) At #46 is Infinity, released in April 2015 as the lead & only single from Mariah's compilation album #1 to Infinity. Mariah wrote the song in collaboration with Eric Hudson, Priscilla Renea, Taylor Parks and Ilsey Juber. Mariah and Hudson also produced the track. The song was the only new recording to be included on her 3rd greatest hits album, which was an updated collection of her 18 US number one singles. Upon release the song garnered a positive response from music critics and it managed a #82 peak on the US Billboard charts, becoming her 47th entry on the Hot 100 in 25 years since 1990. Worldwide it managed a top 20 peak in Spain and minor peaks in Japan, Sweden & France. In the UK it missed the UK top 100 by peaking at #154. The track is okay enough and fits in well with the other tracks on the compilation. However it does suffer quite a bit from being overproduced, especially within it's structure & her vocal range isn't very well represented. The lyrics are fun and interesting and the retro feel is a nice throwback to her glory days. Other than that its just fine I guess. At #45 is Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme), released in April 2000 as the 4th single from Mariah's 7th studio album Rainbow, as well as being released as a double a-side with "Crybaby" in some countries. The song was written by Mariah & Diane Warren as well as being produced by Mariah herself and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The track was at the center of a very public controversy between Mariah and her label Sony Music, based on the very weak promotion due to her divorce from CEO Tommy Mottola. Mariah wanted to release this as the album's 3rd single as it held very personal lyrical content, but Sony wanted a more upbeat and urban track to be released instead which is why 'Crybaby' got chosen instead, which led to a very public feud between the artist and the label. Upon release the song was not commercially successful due to its limited release by reaching a top 40 peak in Belgium and charting in the lower peaks in Italy and The Netherlands. In the USA due to Billboard rules charting credit wasn't given to this and only given to 'Crybaby' & only shared a double a-side status on the dance charts there. A great song with a powerful message that everybody can relate to. The slow tempo blended beautifully together with the pop & R&B beats, as well as Mariah's fantastic vocals on top form here & I love the way it builds as everything comes to a soaring climax. This is such an underrated gem that deserved so much more success & if it wasn't for label politics, then this could have easily smashed. Another ballad drops at #44 with Never Too Far, released in August 2001 as the 2nd single from Mariah's 8th studio album & soundtrack Glitter, which also makes this the last from that era to feature here. Written by Mariah herself and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and unlike the lead & the movie itself it received positive reviews. There was no music video filmed for the single due to her recovering from a breakdown, instead a video was created using a scene taken directly from the film "Glitter". Upon release the song failed to make much impact on the American charts by only managing a #105 on the Bubbling Under charts. However it did fare better in the UK and Australia where it reached top 40 peaks where it was released as a double a-side with 'Don't Stop (Funkin' For Jamaica)". In December 2001 the song got re-released as a charity single in the USA as part of a medley with 'Hero' which was performed on her taped special 'A Home For The Holidays With Mariah Carey' & managed to reach an #81 peak on the US Billboard charts. This is yet another underrated Mariah ballad that could have been a smash hit if it wasn't apart of the flop Glitter era. A shimmering and emotional ballad with a very grand and lustrous feel to the production and of course Mariah's mammoth vocals soars over the entire track and packs an almighty punch.

YES I totally agree that 'Migrate' should have been the 2nd single, it had far more potential & would have garnered strong radio play as it already charted on the Hot 100 upon the album's release. Not saying it would have been another chart topper, but could have went top 5/10 at least. This would have been my run of singles from "E-MC2" Touch My Body Migrate (ft T-Pain) I'll Be Loving U Long Time For The Record I'm That Chick If 'Migrate' becomes a success then there would be more hype for 'I'll Be Loving U Long Time' & give it a full international push/release. For the 4th single have the fan fave 'For The Record' released which could have easily fared better than 'I Stay In Love'. If the previous singles are successful then maybe give 'I'm That Chick' a possible 5th single for the European market to close out the era as that was screaming to be a potential single.

Make or break up, can't take this madness iZsZGUBTGpE 49. I Stay In Love | 6.3 Highest Scores: 10: (rafik4u), Lowest Scores: 2: (Jessie Where) 48. Save The Day (ft Ms Lauryn Hill) | 6.325 Highest Scores: 9: (Josh), Lowest Scores: 3: (Lukuzz) 47. Bringin' On The Heartbreak | 6.325 Highest Scores: 9.5: (Lukuzz), Lowest Scores: 3: (vibe) At #49 is I Stay In Love, released in October 2008 as the 4th and final single from Mariah's 11th studio album E=MC2 and was written by Mariah, Bryan-Michael Cox, Adonis Shropshire and Kendrick Dean, and produced by the former two. The song received generally positive reviews, despite many criticizing the similarities to one of her previous singles "We Belong Together". Despite 2 high profile TV performances such as The X-Factor & American Music Awards, the track performed weak commercially by failing to chart on the Billboard Top 100 & could only manage a #95 peak on the UK singles chart. This is a pleasant enough ballad with a stunning piano driven melody and a nice brooding atmosphere, but coming from an album that's so fun and vibrant, this doesn't quite stand out & maybe something more upbeat could have worked better as the final single. At #48 is Save The Day, released in August 2020 as the lead single from Mariah's compilation album The Rarities and samples vocals from Ms Lauryn Hill on the song "Killing Me Softly" by The Fugees, therefore she's credited as a featured artist. The song was originally written for Mariah's 14th studio album "Me I Am Mariah" and the idea was to reunite a variety of musicians to conceive the song as a charity single, but during its recording session Mariah revealed on her Twitter account in 2012 that the song was in holding pattern for a very special reason. The song finally got released in 2020 where Mariah felt that it was an appropriate time to release the song. The song and album of unreleased material was a real treat at the time with some fantastic gems namely ("Here We Go Around Again") being unleashed to the public & 'Save The Day' is another gem with the gorgeous scaled back piano the gently runs throughout with Mariah's soulful harmonies perfectly fitting into the groovy soulful beats & while the use of Lauryn Hill's vocals was a nice touch, I wish that it was a proper collaboration. At #47 is Bringin' On The Heartbreak, released in June 2003 as the 3rd and final single from Mariah's 9th studio album Charmbracelet. The song was originally sung by English rock band Def Leppard. Mariah co-produced her cover version with Randy Jackson and the single version featured a newly recorded solo and extra guitar overdubs performed by Dave Navarro. Upon release the song failed to enter the US Billboard Top 100 & only gained a limited release in Europe where it managed top 40 peaks in Switzerland & Belgium, as well as charting outside the top 50 in Austria. Mariah performs an interesting and decent cover version of this somewhat obscure Def Leppard track where the electric guitars are replaced with piano, strings and acoustic guitars with her vocals are quite and low in the chorus before they builds up towards the end where she adds her trademark high pitched notes. A fabulous cover version, but Mariah's done far better.

Diggin' this track by The Neptunes UqfLVDIZcP8 52. Never Forget You | 6.238 Highest Scores: 9: (Jord), Lowest Scores: 4: (Jade, dandy*) 51. Say Somethin' (ft Snoop Dogg) | 6.261 Highest Scores: 8.5/8: (gooddelta, elgornio, AaronTM), Lowest Scores: 4: (rafik4u) 50. Bye Bye | 6.275 Highest Scores: 9: (gooddelta, Lukuzz), Lowest Scores: 0: (Jessie Where) At #52 is Never Forget You, released in January 1994 as the B-side to "Without You" and Columbia Records promoted it to American urban contemporary radio stations as the 4th single from Mariah's 3rd studio album Music Box. Mariah co-wrote the track with Babyface and the pair produced it with Daryl Simmons. Upon release Billboard allowed both songs to chart together because both gained strong radio airplay and managed to reach a #3 peak on the US Billboard charts. This remains Mariah's sole double-sided chart appearance. Definitely the most forgotten single from the 'Music Box' era, due to many factors such as it not getting an international release or a music video. This also doesn't compare to the greatness of the other singles as this is a very paint by numbers ballad with a very plodding tempo and lacks anything memorable about it. At #51 is Say Somethin', released in April 2006 as the 6th and final single from Mariah's 10th studio album The Emancipation of Mimi and features guest vocals from American rapper Snoop Dogg. This marks their 2nd collaboration following 'Crybaby' from 1999. Written by Mariah Snoop Dogg, Chad Hugo, and Pharrell Williams, and produced by The Neptunes, making this one of the few songs from Mariah's discography where she doesn't share production credits. After completing many tracks for the album, this song leaked and was promoted to the lead single, until L.A. Reid suggested to her that she travel to Atlantis to work with Jermaine Dupri and they ended up recording the first 2 singles & therefore this got pushed back. Upon release the track released to rhythmic and Top 40 radio stations in the USA & at the same time 'Fly Like A Bird' was serviced to Urban and Gospel stations, but 'Say Somethin' was the only one given an international release. The song only managed a #79 peak on the Billboard charts and failing to match the success of the previous singles. However it performed better worldwide by attaining top 40 peaks in Australia, Ireland, UK and Italy. This is an enjoyable little bop with its breezy synth shuffle, interesting production and the easy chemistry between Mariah and Snoop Dogg, which makes everything worthwhile. Not one of her strongest moments, but its a cute and fun little number nonetheless. At the #50 spot is Bye Bye, released in April 2008 as the 2nd single from Mariah's 11th studio album E=MC2 and was co-written by Mariah herself alongside its producers Mikkel S. Eriksen, Tor Erik Hermansen and Johntá Austin. Lyrically the song is about her deceased father in the verses, and a universal salute to departed loved ones on the chorus. Upon release the song received generally positive reviews and it managed a #19 peak on the US Billboard charts. Worldwide the song achieved relatively weak charting, by reaching a top 10 peak in New Zealand & top 40 peaks in UK, Canada & Ireland. While I do commend the sentimental message behind the track and the simple piano driven melody is nice, but found it a weak single choice that ended up killing the era. This was probably a bit too sappy to fully connect with casual listeners and was perhaps better staying on the album.

True love's a gift, we let it drift in a storm TsLJmZLutXM 56. Loverboy (ft Cameo) | 6.095 Highest Scores: 10: (Jay), Lowest Scores: 3: (Nina West, Lukuzz) 55. Angels Cry (ft Ne-Yo) | 6.119 Highest Scores: 9.5: (AaronTM), Lowest Scores: 4: (Davidson, Jessie Where, Jade, vibe, rafik4u, dandy*) 54. You're Mine (Eternal) | 6.2 Highest Scores: 9.5: (Jay), Lowest Scores: 3: (vibe) 53. The Art of Letting Go | 6.225 Highest Scores: 10: (Lukuzz), Lowest Scores: 3: (Josh, vibe) At #56 is the controversial Loverboy, released in June 2001 as the lead single from Mariah's 8th studio album Glitter, which also acted as the soundtrack to the movie of the same name. The song is built around a sample from "Candy" by the funk band Cameo, who are also featured on the track. There's also a lot of controversy surrounding the song, following confirmed reports that Jennifer Lopez and Tommy Mottola (Carey's ex-husband) stole the idea of sampling the singer's original planned sample, Yellow Magic Orchestra's "Firecracker", over a month after Carey had signed for it. So Mariah had to change the melody and rush to find another sample due to the time constraints. There was also media around Mariah during the promotion which I won't go into, but let's just say that none of it was any good. Upon release the track received very mixed reviews & initially it stalled on the American Billboard charts due to weak airplay, but did manage to climb to #2 due to Virgin discounting the CD for 49 cents. At the time this was Mariah's first lead single not to reach the #1 spot. Elsewhere it did have some success by topping the charts in Croatia & hit top 10 peaks in Australia & Canada, but failed to garner strong elsewhere. The track does have a fun slinky pop funk vibe to it, but this has never been one of my fave singles from Mariah and even after all these years I struggle to find a connection to it, due to the cluttered production & even Mariah's vocals sound very subdued on it. I've never found this a very strong lead single & its not hard to see why it underperformed. At #55 is Angels Cry which featured on Mariah's 12th studio album Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel & was later remixed for its single release to feature Ne-Yo & was meant for the remix album Angels Advocate which ultimately got shelved. The song was written and produced by Mariah, Tricky Stewart and James "Big Jim" Wright, with additional songwriting from Crystal Johnson. Upon release the track was released to rhythmic contemporary and urban contemporary radio in the United States where it only made minor impact on its component charts & only managed to chart in Japan, UK & South Korea where it only managed to peak in the lower regions of those countries. This is quite an underrated little number which opens with slow simple piano notes and when the rhythm picks up it really shows off some nice vocal harmonies from both artists. It's a shame that this version isn't on streaming, but at least we still have the lovely original album version. At #54 is You're Mine (Eternal), released in February 2012 as the 3rd single from Mariah's 14th studio album Me I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse & was written and produced by Carey with Rodney Jerkins. An R&B song, the lyrics revolve around the singer reminiscing about a past lover. Upon release the song experienced very minor success by reaching a #88 peak on the Billboard charts & hit a #87 in the UK. Elsewhere it did manage a top 20 peak in Hungary & hit top 40 peak in Spain. This is a twinkling and intimate ballad that Mariah does best, a nice slow burning R&B number with sparse production and a nice passionate chorus, sure this will never rank up there with some of Mariah's finer ballads, but its a nice little modern take. At #53 is another Me I Am Mariah single The Art of Letting Go, released in November 2013 as the first promotional single (second overall) from the album, following a digital release the same day worldwide. The song was actually the original title for her then upcoming album, which was then due for a Spring 2014 release, but Mariah stated that the album wasn't ready to release the album as well as sustaining an injury to her shoulder while filming the music video to the remix version of her hit single '#Beautiful'. Upon release due to the several album delays the song didn't make the standard edition of the album, instead only featured on the deluxe edition. The song garnered critical acclaim upon release, but didn't find much chart success by peaking in the lower regions of the charts in Australia, UK, Italy, France & Ireland. In the USA it failed to enter the Hot 100, instead peaked at #119 on the Bubbling Under chart. This is a beautiful stripped back orchestral R&B ballad with smooth production and of Mariah's gorgeous vocals which sound absolutely serene on this simple yet refined number.

I Want To Know What Love Is | 6.071 Highest Scores: 10: (Herbs), Lowest Scores: 0: (Bjork) At #60 is You Don't Know What To Do, released in June 2014 as the final single from Mariah's 14th studio album Me I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse and features rapper Wale & was written by Wale, Carey, Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox, with production helmed by the latter two. The song contains an interpolation of "I'm Caught Up in a One Night Affair" . The singles artwork caused controversy when the media criticised Carey for photoshopping and re-using images of herself. Mariah herself expressed discontent on the matter and stated she had no knowledge of it until the song's release. Upon release the song failed to find much success by failing to chart on any of the American charts & only managed to chart in Belgium & South Korea. This song deserved so much more & maybe if it got released as the 2nd single with a music video, then it may have had more attention as this is a stunning track with swirling disco beats mixed with elements of R&B & Gospel and of course Mariah's vibrant vocals layered over the fabulous production. This was an instant firm fave upon the album's release & an underrated gem in her discography for sure. At #59 is Boy (I Need You), released in November 2002 as the 2nd single from Mariah's 9th studio album Charmbracelet and features American rapper Cam'Ron, where the track is actually a reworked version of one of his song's "Oh Boy". Originally 'The One' had been chosen as the album's 2nd single, however halfway through filming the music video, Mariah changed her mind & decided to release this instead. Upon release the song failed to make much impact on the charts worldwide by failing to reach the Billboard Hot 100, instead only charting in the lower reaches of the component charts. Elsewhere it managed top 20 peaks UK & Spain as well as top 40 peaks in Australia, Netherlands & Ireland. Despite being somewhat of a highlight on 'Charmbracelet' (which isn't saying much) as that said album was very weak, this feels very lightweight hip-hop & the sampled vocal doesn't really work & comes across as more annoying than adding anything to the already basic track. At #58 is Up Out My Face, which featured on Mariah's 12th studio album Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel & was later re-recorded with Nicki Minaj for its single release in January 2010. This version was intended for a remix album titled Angels Advocate, which ended up getting scrapped. The lyrics for the song have been speculated to be directed at American rapper Eminem, whom Carey has a longstanding feud with since the early 2000's after his claims that they were in a relationship. Upon release the song gained positive reviews, but wasn't a big success by only managing the scrape the Billboard charts at #100. This is a fun little track with great vocals by both Mariah & Nicki & this is certainly one of the more lively tracks on the album with some nice repeated bass stabs & simple yet catchy R&B beats. At #57 is I Want To Know What Love Is, Originally sung by Foreigner in 1984. Mariah covered it for her 12th studio album Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel where it was released as the 2nd single in September 2009. Upon release it experienced success in several countries such as a top 10 peak in France & top 20 peaks in Denmark, UK & Sweden. In the UK this would be her final top 20 hit to date & even managed to outperform the lead single 'Obsessed' over there. In the USA the track wasn't quite as successful by only reaching a #60 peak. This is a decent cover version where Mariah stays close to the original with its piano and finger clicks, but with more updated production & a nice gospel sounding chorus where Mariah gets to really show off her vocal power which adds a nice touch, but she's done far better covers than this in her back catalogue.

Come together to relieve the pain 7KVxjQUCyn0 65. Against All Odds (ft Westlife) | 5.547 Highest Scores: 10: (gooddelta), Lowest Scores: -1/0: (Bjork, Jessie Where, dandy*) 64. Thank God I Found You (ft Joe & 98 Degrees) | 5.595 Highest Scores: 11: (gooddelta, Herbs), Lowest Scores: 2: (Jessie Where) 63. Almost Home | 5.75 Highest Scores: 10: (Simon), Lowest Scores: 1: (dandy*) 62. There's Got To Be A Way | 5.88 Highest Scores: 8: (Qween), Lowest Scores: 3: (rafik4u) 61. With You | 5.9 Highest Scores: 8.5: (Davidson), Lowest Scores: 4.5/4: (Simon, elgornio, Josh, Lukuzz, rafik4u) At #65 is Against All Odds, originally sung by Phil Collins back in 1984 & Mariah covered originally as a solo track on her 7th studio album Rainbow where it got released as the 3rd international single in May 2000. The cover got re-released as a collaboration with Irish boyband Westlife in September 2000 & became Mariah's 2nd UK #1 & Westlife's 6 consecutive chart topper. In the USA although the song was promoted as part of the album over there, it was not released as a commercial or a radio single there. I actually prefer Mariah's solo version of this track as the duet version doesn't do much for me as their vocals feels very drafted in as backing vocals & they don't really compare to Mariah's emotional and powerful vocals on this cover. This is very much a product of its time. Another Rainbow single drops at #64 with Thank God I Found You which features guest vocals from R&B singer Joe & American boyband 98 Degrees. Released in November 1999 as the album's 2nd single & written and produced by Carey alongside Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Upon release the song gained mixed reviews but nonetheless it Mariah's 15th chart topper in the USA and would remain her last until her 2005 comeback. Elsewhere it managed a #2 peak in Canada and attained moderate international charting with top 10 peaks in Spain, Poland & the UK as well as top 30 peaks in Australia, Belgium, France, Netherlands & Switzerland. This always felt like an attempt of recapturing the magic of her duet with Boyz II Men, but the combination of the guest vocals don't quite work here as it feels very basic and quite lazy. At #63 is Almost Home, recorded by Mariah for the movie Oz The Great and Poweful soundtrack in 2013. Upon release the song gained favourable reviews with many stating that it was a return to form after the lukewarm reception to some of her previous releases, but the song failed to restore her former chart glory by only minor impacts on the charts in Japan, Spain & France. This is an okay little ballad that did kinda fly under the radar, but its nowhere near as good as her former ballads, however it was better than the awful movie it came from. At #62 is an early Mariah number There's Got To Be A Way, released in May 1991 as the 5th and final single from her self-titled debut album for the UK market only instead of 'I Don't Wanna Cry' which got released everywhere else. Upon release the song failed to become a hit by only managing a #54 peak. It was one of four songs Carey wrote with Ric Wake during their first recording session together in February 1990, but this was the only track from those sessions to make the final tracklisting. Out of all of Mariah's early singles this probably sounds the most dated with its surface level socially message, its a nice little track though that probably should have stayed on the album as it pales when compared to the album's other singles. At #61 is With You, released in October 2018 as the lead single from Mariah's 15th studio album Caution & was written by Mariah, Charles Hinshaw, Dijon McFarlane and Greg Lawary, with Carey and DJ Mustard also producing it. The song was preceded by the promotional single 'GTFO' & gained positive reviews by critics but became her first lead single to not enter the US Billboard charts, but did manage a #7 peak on the Adult Contemporary chart, giving Carey her 23rd top-ten single. This is a solid little R&B tune where Mariah's vocals casades across the smooth beats and piano lines that gives this romantic ballad a nice soothing warm sound. But personally I think that 'GTFO' should have been pushed as the lead single instead as that's a lot more interesting and memorable & this 'With You' feels a tad safe.

No need to call my phone 'cause I changed my number today yd8wMObmm38 70. Crybaby (ft Snoop Dogg) | 4.833 Highest Scores: 8: (Davidson), Lowest Scores: 1: (Lukuzz) 69. When Christmas Comes (ft John Legend) | 5.2 Highest Scores: 8: (gooddelta), Lowest Scores: 2: (Jessie Where) 68. In The Mix | 5.35 Highest Scores: 7.5/7: (gooddelta, Jade, dandy*, Qween), Lowest Scores: 3.5/3: (Nina West, Lukuzz, rafik4u) 67. Sweetheart (ft JD) | 5.35 Highest Scores: 8: (Davidson), Lowest Scores: 2: (Jessie Where) 66. H.A.T.E.U. | 5.452 Highest Scores: 8.5/8: (Jay, Qween, AaronTM), Lowest Scores: 2: (Jessie Where) At #70 is Crybaby, released in April 2000 as a double a-side with 'Can't Take That Away' & features American rapper Snoop Dogg and is built around a sample of the 1988 song "Piece of My Love," originally performed by Guy. The song featured on Mariah's 7th studio album Rainbow & was the center of a very public controversy between Carey and her label Sony Music Entertainment, due to their lack of promotion of it as a commercial single. Eventually the song was able to reach a peak of #28 on the US Billboard charts, becoming her first to miss the top 20, its minimal airplay prevented it from climbing any higher. Wouldn't call this one of Mariah's finest singles & maybe if it was more successful then it may have done better on here, but the song isn't entirely terrible the blending of Mariah vocals & Snoop Dogg's verses are handled quite well & the laid back R&B is quite nice, but the song isn't really all that memorable. At #69 is When Christmas Comes a song that originally featured on her second Christmas album Merry Christmas II You in 2010. The song was later re-recorded in November 2011 as a duet with John Legend and later released as a single. This is a nice track that features horns and piano accenting a simple R&B groove. A really nice festive number with great vocals by both artists, but doesn't quite reach the highs of her other X-Mas hits, still nice enough though. At #68 is In The Mix, released in September 2019 as the official theme song of the American TV series Mixed-ish. The song's music was composed by Carey along with songwriter-producer Daniel Moore II, and the lyrics and melody were written by Carey. A simple R&B tune which shows that Mariah is still capable of creating & despite the nice sentiment behind it, the track doesn't really do much for me at all & kinda just fades into the background. At #67 is Sweetheart, released in September 1998 & features American rapper JD (Jermaine Dupri). The song features on both Mariah's #1's compilation album & JD's 3rd studio album 1472. The song was originally recorded by American singer Rainy Davis in 1986 & Mariah was inspired to create a remake of "Sweetheart" as she liked listening to the song as a teenage girl. Upon release the song wasn't given a commercial release in the USA for unspecified reasons and instead distributed for free with the purchase of #1's, which caused it peak at a mere #125 on the Billboard charts. Mariah takes a more restrained vocal style on this R&B number and its quite refreshing & blends beautifully with JD's rapping style & if this was given a proper release then it probably would have been a big hit. At #66 is H.A.T.E.U. which stands for "Having A Typical Emotional Upset", released in November 2009 as the 3rd single from Mariah's 12th studio album Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel & it was written and produced by Mariah, Tricky Stewart, and The-Dream. Upon release the song was sent to contemporary hit/Top 40, rhythmic contemporary, and urban contemporary radio stations in the USA. It only managed a #72 peak on the R&B charts. The track features a nice simple electric piano sequence that's loaded with soft vocals, along with a nice laidback groove. This is a nice track but doesn't scream single to me, instead it feels like a strong album track, but the remixes were awesome though.

Path that I chose flashing camera's as I pose UM156Pkfg70 73. Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica) (ft Mystikal) | 4.214 Highest Scores: 8: (gooddelta, JackTheeStallion), Lowest Scores: 0: (Josh) 72. I Don't (ft YG) | 4.65 Highest Scores: 7.5/7: (gooddelta, Qween), Lowest Scores: 3.5/3: (Nina West, Davidson, Jessie Where, JackTheeStallion, elgornio, vibe, Jay) 71. Triumphant (Get Em) (ft Rick Ross & Meek Mill) | 4.775 Highest Scores: 8: (JosephStyles), Lowest Scores: 1.5 (Nina West) In last place & scraping the bottom of the barrel is Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica), released in September 2001 as the 3rd single from Mariah's 8th studio album Glitter and features a guest rap from Mystikal. It was written by Mariah DJ Clue, Duro, and Mystikal, while production was handled by the former three. The song is built around a sample of the 1980 song "Funkin' for Jamaica (N.Y.)" produced by Tom Browne and Toni Smith. Upon release the song received mixed reviews and failed to make any significant impact on the charts by by reaching top 40 peaks in the UK & Australia, as well as #123 peak on the Billboard Bubbling Under charts. This song just isn't very good, the production's way too heavy with Mariah pushed to the background and lacks any memorable hooks. There were much better songs on the album that could given single status, but given how things were for this era at the time, nothing else would have made much difference anyway. At #72 is I Don't which features American rapper YG and was released as a standalone single in February 2017. The song was previewed during the final episode of her E! docuseries Mariah's World. Epic Records released the song five days after the airing. The song also samples Donell Jone's 'Where I Wanna Be'. Upon release it made a minor impact on the charts by peaking #89 on US Hot 100 & a #96 peak in Canada. Not one of Mariah's finest releases, it just kinda fades into the background despite some nice and effective R&B & Hip Hop beats, but the problem is you'll forget it as soon as it ends. The last of this bunch at #71 is Triumphant (Get 'Em), featuring rappers Rick Ross and Meek Mill. Released in August 2012 the song was meant to feature on her then upcoming 14th studio album, but due to the songs poor critical and commercial performance, it was scrapped. The song was written when her then-husband, actor Nick Cannon, was hospitalized with acute kidney failure in 2012, and was also inspired by the death of global superstar singer, and her friend, Whitney Houston. You can see why this didn't work, a prime example of the producers trying to make a veteran diva hip by adding rappers that overwelms her song and the already stale and dated production doesn't help matters, as well as lacking any hooks . Nothing really works and the track just feels like a cluttered remix than an actual single.
