Welcome Buzzjack to Round 7 of Lady Gaga's Least Fave Single Poll. The latest song to drop is The Cure, which received 6 votes, kinda surprising considering it wasn't in any danger in the previous rounds. Released back in 2017 as a standalone single, the song is a solid little bop but perhaps its a little too faceless and generic to fully standout amongst Lady Gaga's other more iconic hits in her discography. As for the other results. 'You And I' came close yet again with 4 votes and has only barely survived the last couple of rounds by getting the 2nd highest amount of votes. Released in December 2001 as the second single from Sophie's debut album 'Read My Lips' and would go onto become Sophie's signature hit by reaching a #2 peak in the UK and becoming a worldwide sensation by hitting top 10 peaks in other 20 countries and is reported to have been the most played song in Europe in 2002. The song was written by Sophie and Greg Alexander with production by the former and Matt Rowe. Greg first wrote the hook and melody back in 1994. In 1998, he planned to record the song with his New Radicals band for their sole debut album 'Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too', but ultimately chose to record 'You Get What You Give' instead. The song came to attention once again in January 2024, following its use in the film Saltburn and popularity on TikTok. where again it became a worldwide smash hit by reaching #2 on the UK charts, as well as top 10 peaks in a further 11 countries, and even made a dent on the US Top 100 at #51, becoming her first appearance on that chart. The same year, Alexander's band New Radicals released their own version of the song. Yes, this was a predictable winner, but who cares when a song is this good, it fully deserves all the praise and attention. This won the rate by 9.5 points, resulting in a perfect 10.00 average. Sophie's debut album may have had split opinions upon its release, but the consensus that this song was a highlight was pretty unanimous across the board. So, releasing it as the second single made total sense and went onto elevate it as a British disco pop masterpiece and would set the tone for the rest of her career. The shimmering beats, frantic string stabs, dramatic beats and awesome tongue in cheek lyrics is brimming with personality and joyus fun. This has rightfully been cemented as Sophie's magnum opus and never fails to entertain. Even after more than 20 years since its release it still sounds incredible and fresh, a timeless pop classic. The track may sit on the more commercial end of her debut album, but its still firmly committed to her emerging style and persona, therefore it fits cohesively within the context of the album even if there was nothing else on there that sounded like it (well on the original release anyway). To this day it stands as Sophie's most popular and enduring hits. its ever lasting legacy is there for a whole new generation to enjoy which is why it became a massive success the second time around.

Released in August 2000 and was involved in a highly publicised chart battle against "Out of Your Mind" by Victoria Beckham, where it was a close battle, but this song eventually overtook it sales by becoming Sophie's first and only UK chart topper. The track was originally created by Spiller in early 1999 as an instrumental, with no singing, and was included on the Mighty Miami EP. The song is built upon by samples from the Carol William's disco song 'Love Is You'. The origin of the song title is taken from the name of the nightclub 'Groovejet' in South Beach, Miami Beach, Florida, where the song was first played (as an instrumental) in 1999. In order to make it more palatable for airplay, Positiva Records asked Sophie to provide lyrics and vocals for the song, her lyric was partly reworked by Rob Davis. In addition to receiving critical acclaim, the track became a worldwide smash hit by topping the charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand & UK, top 10 peaks in Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Finland Portugal, Denmark, Hungary, Italy and Netherlands. I think you all knew what the #1 song was gonna be, but for now let's talk about this quintessential, timeless dance-pop classic and a defining song of the 00s. Sleek grooves, soulful vocals, sophisticated melodies and incredible use of a relatively unknown disco song, and you've got a dance pop masterpiece on your hands. This perfectly captures that summer in Ibiza vibe perfectly as well as being the start of Sophie Ellis-Bextor's solo career and what a perfect starting point this was. I don't know what else to say about this, it's just perfect and looking back its hard to believe that this almost lost out on the #1 spot with Victoria Beckham's song, but thankfully the right song won out in the end.

Before the final results gets announced, I wanted to a little post about Sophie's Trip The Light Fantastic era, this is what could/should have been kinda thing. This was such a fantastic album that had so much potential for hits & it felt very slept on during its release which is a shame as its the best album of her entire career. The first 3 singles were perfect & deserved far more success than they got & not had the botched releases some of them had. 'If I Can't Dance' & 'Love Is Here' should have went ahead and been released as well as a deluxe edition version of the album that included the b-sides & the brilliant 'Love Is The Law'. The release schedule could have looked something like this (note I changed the chart peaks). FEB '07 - Catch You - [#5] - Maybe release this on a less busier week & it could have had a higher chart peak. May '07 - Me and My Imagination - [#8] - If the botched iTunes mishap didn't happen, then this could have been possible. Aug '07 - Today the Sun's On Us - [#23] - This could have fared better if the previous single didn't underperform & there would have been more hype for this. Nov '07 - If I Can't Dance - [#16] - Release this in November to keep the momentum going & this had all the makings of becoming a top 20 hit. May '08 - Love Is Here - [#64] - Accompany this with a brand new radio edit & a re-release of the album to include extra tracks, then this would have been the perfect era closer. I know the #64 peak is rather low, but given that this would be a 5th single fan favourite release, just being somewhat realistic. Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) (ft Freemasons) - 9.343 Highest Scores: 11: (Liam.k.), 10: (Nina West, Paddington James, Jessie Where, JosephStyles,, HarryGarfield, Jester), Lowest Scores: 8/8.5: (gooddelta, Mango, AllStarBySmashMouth, dandy) At the #3 spot is the fabulous 'Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)', a song by English production duo Freemasons and featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor on lead vocals. Released in June 2009 as a single from Freemason's 2nd album 'Shakedown 2' and as the lead single from Sophie's 4th studio album 'Make A Scene', which wasn't released until 2011. The song was written by the production duo James Wiltshire and Russell Small, Richard Stannard and Sophie herself, and production was handled by Wiltshire and Small. The track was first uploaded to Sophie's official MySpace page back in June 2008, but it wasn't announced as a single until February 2009 and made its premiere BBC Radio 1's The Scott Mills Show in April 2009 where it was quickly added to the station's B-list. Upon release the song received wide critical praise and reached a #13 peak on the UK singles chart, becoming her 9th and to date final UK Top 20 hit. Elsewhere it scored massive success on various dance charts worldwide where it reached high positions in Russia, Belgium, Australia and the UK dance chart. The song charted in several countries worldwide with a top 10 peak in Hungary, top 20 in Finland as well as top 40 peaks in Belgium (Flanders) and Ireland. I always thought that this titled 'Heartbreak (Made Me A Dancer)' instead of 'Make Me'🫢. This is a masterful club track with sleek production, infectious beats and brimming with euphoric energy. Sophie's signature icy vocals combines brilliantly with the dramatic build up to the soaring high energy chorus as well as the urgent dance sounds that brings a sense of joy and wonder to the already fabulous song. Why wasn't this a bigger hit a #13 peak seems so criminally low for a quality track such as this. I remember the hype surrounding it when it was first uploaded to Sophie's MySpace, but instead of cashing in on the hype, they took so long to actually release it. This had all the makings of becoming more of an all-time classic, but the release was botched and like many of her other songs, a major missed opportunity. Great song nonetheless and one of Sophie's finest releases of her career.

Bittersweet - 9.25 Highest Scores: 11: (Jessie Where, Viper), 10: (Paddington James, Scene, Jade), Lowest Scores: 7.5: (dandy) At #4 is 'Bittersweet', released in May 2010 as the 3rd single from Sophie's 4th studio album 'Make A Scene', this was the first solo song to be released following the previous 2 which were both collaborations. It was written by Sophie herself, James Wiltshire, Russell Small, Richard Stannard and Hannah Robinson, and production was handled by Freemasons and Biffco, the former collaborated on the lead single 'Heartbreak (Made Me A Dancer)'. The song's B-side 'Sophia Loren', was for a time, going to be the album's lead single, but these plans were scrapped due to a change in direction for the album. Upon release 'Bittersweet' received positive critical reviews and managed to peak at #25 on the UK singles chart becoming her 11th top 40 hit. An elegant synth pop track that blends electronic dance beats with Sophie's signature classy vocals. The production by Freemasons is fantastic with its melancholic yet uplifting sounds that goes well with the thumping club disco beats and catchy chorus that soars over the production. This us yet another great song from Sophie Ellis-Bextor that deserved far more attention and success than it had when it got released, but perhaps it fell in line with the dance sound that was very popular at time a bit too well and kinda got lost in the shuffle. A brilliant dance pop bob that deserved at least a top 20 chart placement.

Welcome Buzzjack to Rouind 6 of Lady Gaga Least Fave Single Poll & after a very close battle G.U.Y. becomes the latest song to exit with just 5 votes. The song has always been a bit polarizing when it comes to Gaga's discography with some loving it and others hating it, as for me I'm somewhere in the middle. It never normally lasts very long in these polls, but I do think if the song became a hit, then it would have a much warmer fan reception. Considering the time it came out, any other song from the album would have had the same fate. 9 other songs got votes. 'You & I' wasn't far behind with 3 votes. 'Million Reasons' and 'Stupid Love' both got 2 votes each. Then 'Judas', 'Do What U Want', 'Perfect Illusion', 'The Cure', 'Always Remember Us This Way' & 'Die With A Smile' each gained 1 vote each. 25 songs left & same rules apply just vote for your least fave Gaga single from the poll above and the one with the most votes will be gone by the next round which will be in about a week's time, so get voting. Like I said in my post it would have been interesting to see how 'Lover' would have fared, coz it was planned for around March/April 2002, I remember seeing it on release schedules & was excited for it as it was one of my faves from 'Read My Lips'. They should have went ahead with it anyway. it could have easily been another top 10 hit for her & still kept the June release for 'Get Over You' along with the repacked version of the album. So the release schedule could have went like this AUG '01 - Take Me Home DEC '01 - Murder On The Dancefloor MAR '02 - Lover JUNE '02 - Get Over You/Move This Mountain NOV '02 - Music Gets The Best of Me Also I would have moved 'MGTBOM' to around September or October instead of a 5 month gap between releases. Also of note 'The Universe Is You' was also being lined up as the 4th single at some point, but that was during the original album cycle before they changed gears with the re-release. I understand the label doing this because the reception to the album was rather polarizing with people (including myself) expecting tracks more along the lines of the first 2 singles. The sales were struggling before the re-release came along, so it was a smart move I guess.

The track didn't feature on the original version of the album, 'Lover' was originally due to be released as the 3rd single but due to the success of the previous singles, some additional material was recorded to keep in line with the radio friendly disco pop sound that she already established. In the UK the song was released as a double a-side alongside 'Move This Mountain', In most countries 'GOY' received a solo release. The song became another success for Sophie as it peaked at #3 on the UK singles chart and to date it ranks as Sophie's 5th biggest selling single. Elsewhere it also charted well by reaching top 5 peaks in New Zealand, Australia, Netherlands and Denmark, top 10 peaks in Czech Republic, Romania and Spain as well as top 20 peaks in 6 other countries. Now it would have been interesting to see how 'Lover' would have fared if given a chance as it was more in line with the synth laden electronica sound that featured on the album, but releasing this new track was probably the smartest move as its more finely attuned to the sound and image that Sophie had already projected. The song is quintessential early 00's electro pop music that's characterized by its French house-influenced production combined with electro synths, upbeat catchy rhythms, witty lyrics and a fun detached vocal style that adds a distinctive quirky charm that's very much Sophie Ellis-Bextor. This is without a doubt one of Sophie's finest singles of her stellar career.

Catch You - 8.843 Highest Scores: 10: (Nina West, Paddington James, Jessie Where, JosephStyles, Jade), Lowest Scores: 7/7.5: (dandy, Jester) At the #6 spot is 'Catch You', released in February 2007 as the lead single from Sophie's 3rd studio album 'Trip The Light Fantastic' and was written by Cathy Dennis, Rhys Barker and Greg Kurstin and produced by Kurstin. The single was first announced on New Year's Eve 2006, where Sophie performed the song on the BBC's "New Year Live" show. Upon release it gained positive critical reviews and face immediate competition on the charts against the likes of Kelis, The Fray, Take That, Justin Timberlake and Mika. It managed to reach a #8 peak on the UK singles chart becoming her 7th and final UK top 10 hit. Elsewhere it saw moderate success by hitting a top 20 peak in Italy, top 40 peak in Ireland, top 50 in Australia and minor positions in Netherlands and Switzerland. This acting scored the same average as the #5 song, but that was placed higher due to it getting some 11's. This is a brilliant comeback single for Sophie that blends her usual upbeat dance pop style with a polished rock edge and some cool electro beats that keeps the pace manic and dramatic at the same time. This deserved a way higher peak than #8, should have been top 5 at the very least, but the 4 year gap probably didn't help. Shame that this was her final top 10 hit as she deserved so many more. A solid comeback single nonetheless and stands as a firm highlight in her discography.
