  2. I think it depends on your expectations going into the tournament. Croatia in 1998 and Turkey in 2002 were very happy to get 3rd place and the bronze medal because they exceeded their own expectations by getting to the semi finals in the first place. If Cape Verde for example had made it to the semi finals they would be very happy with a bronze medal by the end of the tournament.
  3. 7 out of the last 8 third place play offs have been won by the team that was knocked out in the semi final by the eventual winners. Including the last two consecutive tournaments.
  4. The winning team will be presented with World Cup rings which is apparently a tradition in American sport. So the players and staff on the winning team will have rings, medals and a trophy. Getting through the airport metal detector will be a challenge for them haha. BBC SportWorld Cup 2026: World Cup rings for winners as Donald Tru...Donald Trump will present the trophy to the World Cup final winners on Sunday, and rings will be presented to the victorious side.
  5. I read a few days ago that no host nation has ever entered a World Cup as defending champions but Spain will become the first to do that if they win on Sunday as they are one of the three hosts of the 2030 World Cup.
  6. One thing to look out for on Sunday is Donald Trump joining in on the celebrations when he hands the World Cup trophy to Rodri or Lionel Messi if this is anything to go by 🤣🤣🤣
  7. All you'd have to do is search on YouTube for celebrations of Spain, Italy and Portugal winning the Euros to see how major of an achievement that is. If England were to do that the whole country would lose their shit. Yeah it's not the same as a World Cup but it would still be a historic achievement and one that would not be easy to do.
  8. For a team that have not won anything for 60 years and have only won one major trophy in their history I'd take what I can get. Euros is certainly not something to be slept on and not something to assume will happen either.
  9. Will this person live to regret doing this? BBC NewsFan has huge £550 tattoo declaring England World Cup winnersSean Carrington said if the Three Lions fail to bring the trophy home he will add the words "only joking".
  10. Oh yes the Saudi World Cup is still come as well, that will be another to take place in the middle of the club football season ☹️
  11. I heard about this a few weeks ago. If they're going to do this it would make more sense for it to be prior to kick off, it could have been part of the closing ceremony which could have made that itself feel more special. Doing this in the middle of the match could ruin the big match atmosphere and for the players it will just add to the nerves that they will be feeling. Imagine what it would be like for the players and fans of a team that is going into half time with a deficit to overcome in the biggest match in World football, how are they possibly going to enjoy this? I hope the World Cup never goes to America again tbh, it's only the action on the pitch that has carried the tournament imo.
  12. Yeah I tried that and sadly it didn't work!
  13. It's similar to 2010. Spain lost their first match at that tournament and people laughed at them but in the end they had the last laugh. This time they drew 0-0 with Cape Verde and people laughed at them, now they could again have the last laugh. I'm shocked at how bad France were in the match, at times it looked like Spain were having a kickabout with school children when they were passing the ball in circles around the French players.
  14. France have been leading us on for the past month!
  15. Spain are definitely the better team so far and are in total control.
  16. 1-0 Spain This is an interesting development!
  17. I think it's unlikely but it would be nice to see a match akin to the 1st leg of PSG Vs Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Throw all defensive tactics out of the window and just attack attack attack and end up with a 5-4, 4-4 type of score line in 90 minutes. These two teams owe the World that haha.
  18. England have only been in the medal positions once at a World Cup so if they beat Argentina they will at least guarantee being in the medal positions again.
  19. France 2-0 Spain England 1-2 Argentina
  20. It would have been really nice to see a first time winner of the World Cup. Only eight countries in the entire globe have won this competition and apart from the one time Spain & England won and Uruguay winning it in 1950 it's been the same merry-go-round of five teams over the last decades. You get some shock and unusual occurrences in club football from time to time but it just doesn't seem to happen on the World international stage. Having to wait another 4 years for the next opportunity makes it worse as well.

Yes that is true that most people would have put a bet on those teams. I was thinking that they would pay out less money than if an unfancied team won it instead, it's kind of a lose-lose situation for them.

I would have thought it was good for the bookies, no? The top 4 favourites from the start of the competition and throughout making it into the semi finals.
