Big breakaway day today, with Torstein Traen taking the yellow with almost 8 minutes over Pogacar have they let it go out a bit far? Let's see how long he can keep it for...

I'm a lot happier that Belgium won that game than I was with them beating Senegal!

Only took three days for Pogacar to take yellow! Wonder if it'll be him for the rest of the race or if he'll let it go to some others during the race. I watched the first highlights show on Channel 5, wasn't particularly emanoured by it so I've been watching the 10-minute highlights on Youtube since then.

We get going tomorrow! The question will again be whether anyone can stop Tadej Pogacar from winning his fifth Tour - the answer is probably 'no' but anything can happen in these races, including contenders crashing out. The one major new contender is the French teenager Paul Seixas, who some people are saying might be able to challenge Tadej but he's yet to prove himself at a three-week race. Scrolling through the start list now and it looks like the usual sorts, Biniam Girmay the only black rider in the race again which is a shame.

Another interesting point - these new-style group stages have been very favourable to the African sides, with seven of them already through and the potential for two more to join them tonight. Certainly more than the 5 teams that they would have got if we'd started with 32!

So far every team that was expected to top their group has done so. Let's hope Colombia or Ghana can pull off a shock later...

Wondering if Algeria vs. Austria will be a repeat of Paraguay vs Australia, as a draw will guarantee both of them make it through, and they'll probably get equally unsavoury opponents regardless of if they're second or third in the group.

Get in Cape Verde! Great result for them. When was the last time a team finished second in their group with just 3 points? A shame for Uruguay - a second Group Stage exit in a row. Looks like they'll be the only South American team to not make the Round of 32 as well.

Senegal safely through now - the other two groups last night went their way.

Senegal have done everything they could do now - it all relies on the other matches now. Iraq will more than likely have the dubious honour of getting the lowest record across all teams in this group stage - still three teams on 0 points left to play but I can't see any of them letting their goal difference go out to 11 goals.
