Some good songs in this section! ITIIITIATIIHYLIHYL was different from your usual BJSC fare but really sounded good, and Queen of Kings was a nice Eurovision entry as well.

Not heard of Fred Roberts before but giving Say a listen now, a very well-written and well-produced track, sounds like one you could easily dance to even with the song being about struggling in a relationship!

Video KE9iCRAol4c Commentary Jim Noir returned this year, both with solo material (which he said might be his last) and a new project with singer Leonore Wheatley called Co-Pilot. The latter of that produced this quirky track, Swim to Sweden. Why would you want to swim to Sweden specifically? Not sure, but methinks there's probably an element of alliteration in there, as the rest of the lyrics don't make too much sense either, but still a good one to listen to! On first listen it sounds a bit jarring, but I've eventually grown into enjoying the jarring-ness. Similar to Joker Out, as it entered my chart later it didn't feel Eurovision-y and therefore managed a fairly lengthy chart run. The lyrics about people who have been hurt don't want others to feel the same combined with a great melody really make this song. Nice to see Glue Song pop up here - it never did enough to make my own chart but it was great to see her get a Top 40 hit as a solo artist!

I'll always love This is the Life! Brings back so many memories from my childhood, and her fast singing (I feel like there's probably a more musical term for this but it's not coming to me!) in the chorus really defines the song.

Giving I Am The River a listen now - certainly an interesting one, very much defined by the humming (if that's what you can call it?) throughout. Her voice isn't pitch perfect but that seems deliberate here, and I quite like that in a singer!

The highest song (I think!) from Zimbabwe, this is a fab song mixing African music with a more dance-pop style as a few other songs from the area have been doing! 103: Scouting For Girls - The Missing Part (947pts) NE (11/11/2023) 22-19-14-16-18-24-... Scouting For Girls still have the power to put out a good song! Again this is a little bit cheesy but fun to listen to as well. 102: Sam Bowman - Whisper (949pts) NE (15/4/2023) 39-7-7-8-11-19-29-38-43-65-72-85-91-xx Despite being a Christian song, this one has a little bit more of a spooky vibe to it! Definitely worth a little listen. 101: Ed Sheeran - Boat (960pts) NE (13/5/2023) 93-37-8-6-6-11-15-18-25-36-52-61-70-77-90-xx I realise technically this is the highest Top 20 song in my countdown as opposed to Peggy, but one week at 15 does feel like a bit of a cheat! This is a beautiful emotional track though, focussing on both hopelessness and resilience.

Giving Where You Are a play now, sounding like a fairly decent dance track! Must've missed this one despite it getting a reasonable total on Spotify.

Not heard too much of Ruel (outside of your EOYs!) - just giving END SCENE a listen now, certainly an interesting one! The instrumentation and vocals certainly capture the desperation that the lyrics portray.
