Giro d'Italia starts in a few days' time - I've not been paying too much attention to who the contenders are (or if I can even watch it on Freeview) but should be interesting to see how everyone's looking this year.

The Diamond League kicked off a few days ago in China. Just been watching the first 30 minutes and already quite the range of athletes getting top spot - Botswana, Netherlands, Ukraine and Kenya! Although there were a staggering number of Ethiopians in the womens' 5000m.

Rest in peace. Obviously I'm not a part of the Catholic tradition but I do respect that he's made steps in the right direction to humble himself and not to see the position for its 'benefits' but as an opportunity to speak out about the importance of caring for the poor and the marginalised, something that's at the heart of the Christian faith. Hopefully whoever is next continues in that direction.

Congrats Dobbo - you're a great choice for mod and I think you'll do a fab job! It's been an amazing six years as Sports Mod for me - I've gotten to learn about so many sports I wouldn't have done otherwise, and helping run multiple Olympics, World Cups, World Cup of Sportspeople and even a song contest (!) has been great. Sadly working full-time has taken its toll but I'm sure Mack and Dobbo will keep the Sports Forum ticking along nicely (and I'll still be sticking my head in of course!)
