Miley Cyrus - Something Beautiful
I moved to New Zealand with Addison Rae and decided to give this a listen — excuse me — this is some of her strongest work to date. The second half of this album is cracker after cracker There is a song that plays with nineties trip-hop and drone

Addison Rae - Fame is a Gun
I flew to New Zealand just to listen to this and now I'm not leaving Fame is a gun and I point it blind

Lorde - Man Of The Year
I like how abrasive and minimalist both the production and mixing are — they sound intentionally off. I see the vision. It's just hard to shake the feeling that this song would have been five minutes long a few years ago and would have edged us into something more climactic.

The Last of Us
It's interesting to read the differences between people who have played the game and those who haven't — both sides seem disappointed, but in similar yet different ways. I was worried going into this season about how difficult it would be to adapt — not just because of the controversy, but because of how the game slowly reveals key information and challenges the player's perspective. It's bleak (far bleaker than the show) with only rare moments of levity, which is difficult to replicate within the constraints of a short (7 episodes is criminal) TV season. So I don’t envy the writers for that. That said, I do think they struggled. The writing felt uneven, especially with Ellie’s arc and how quickly they rushed through Seattle — something the game handled with more nuance. Bella Ramsey did what they could with the material they were given, especially considering how Ellie’s character was softened. She’s written as a reckless idiot here, while Dina is portrayed with more care. In the game, they were much more equal. Ellie’s mindset slowly descends as she struggles with grief, her actions, and her obsession with Abby. Her personality, the quips, etc, vanish. The show’s portrayal feels really inconsistent and they didn't really show that? Episode 6 hinted at the kind of character moments the game is known for, but outside of Joel and Ellie, those moments felt underdeveloped. Some of the choices baffled me, particularly in how they rearranged certain story beats and reveals. Ending the season here does make sense given how the game is structured, but it doesn’t feel earned due to how short and rushed everything has felt. Again, 7 episodes for a season like this is just silly. For anyone feeling nervous about season 3 — this part of the game is my favourite. The Seraphites and WLF are more fleshed out, the set pieces are incredible 🐀, and the narrative is just more entertaining. Shocking to say (at this point, I know) but Abby (along with a few others...) is a phenomenal character and my favourite from the entire game. I hope they can pull it off. @Rooney (I did love some of the little easter eggs in this episode though )

The Elëdan x Neliönoir recycle was inevitable one day — just too iconic x I don't know as much as usual this month! Looking forward to getting into them all 🖤

🛬 Landings in BJSC 175 (Terminal A & Terminal B) 🛬
easyJet 2! Scotland 2 remaining nothing short of iconic. This theme and everything that has gone into it — incredible Boarding is brisk. Emotions are x-rayed. Noise-cancelling is non-optional. Cabins are matte black. Tray tables lock into position with a mechanical sigh. Your reflection only appears when the music stops. I think Kath might be onto a winner this month — big hype to TDJ and Clara Kimera (entering my @Brer era to tell everyone how these are both previous Neliönoir artists 🌚)

The Last of Us
I have to agree — I’m not sure if that’s because I know (and adore) the source material, or if it’s due to poor writing. Bella was fantastic in the hospital scene, so it’s not a criticism of her performance. Ellie’s descent into anger and grief, and her fixation on revenge, hasn’t really come across well. It feels rushed — my usual complaint. The whole story just needed more time. With a flashback episode and then a finale that’s going to cover a lot (and feel like a lot), everything is moving too quickly — but a lot feels unsubstantial, too, somehow. I feel a bit silly because I’ve hyped up the second game so much, and they haven’t really nailed it. That said, narratively, this season has confirmed how much stronger the second half of the game is (for me). I'm excited for that in the third season — the locals are in for a treat with the set pieces alone

PinkPantheress - Fancy That
‘Nice to Know You’ has sent me into an early grave, and I couldn’t be happier — sampling 'Spiral' is so random but inspired (I need a 'Song 4 Mutya' sample next, per favore) She’s improved exponentially on this project compared to 'Heaven Knows', which didn't hit for me. The production is tight, referential, bops on bops on bops, just so deliciously and ridiculously British. Basement Jaxx x Groove Armada x PinkPantheress when?
