Halloween edit hahahahaha. I’m passive streaming all of her Tension era mixes and the album when I’m not using Spotify….think it’ll hold on because the combined streaming Inc YouTube is decent, hence why it had a six week chart run already. We just need the Chromeo mix to stay higher and ideally pull a SMFF Joe Stone and take off properly for a few weeks. Agree, download sales are low they should just make them all 59p but keep the album price at £2.99….encourage more fans to multi buy and casual fans to download. They must be saving the extended mix for the Extension release!

Hope it can hold on especially as there still is some decent streaming sales alongside the remix downloads.

Yes but with hindsight the current chart performance isn’t much below these expectations…it’s just understanding how the current market functions. A bit of analysis shows Tension is doing fine.

You just have to look at the top 100 albums and apart from new entries at the top after that hardly any new albums stay top 100 at all. It’s all greatest hits, catalogue albums with several big streaming hits, outliers like Taylor and Harry and the occasional newer album by an artist with streaming support. Even if Tension sold double the numbers after week one it would amount to less than 10k extra but its chart run would look significantly better. Streaming is bigger and bigger but it’s so competitive and it seems most new albums drop quite quickly on the streaming only chart. The positive for Kylie is her back catalogue is growing nicely in line with the streaming market. It seems as though the best chance for Tension is it accumulates sales through streaming over a long time with the occasional physical sales boost from promo or a new variant. The last CD I bought before Tension was the GLE 5 disc, and before that the deluxe Disco in 2020. Think Dido’s album in 2019 is the last one I bought by someone else. I’m sure many Kylie fans have completely stopped buying physical products and will just stream occasionally instead. Even if they listened to it once daily it’ll take ten weeks to equal 1 sale.

Disco wasn’t heavily discounted from day 1 was it….I have no recollection, what was discounted? Standard and deluxe CDs were available cheaper later on 2020, HMV etc had pre Christmas sales. GLE standard CD definitely available for a £5 or whatever early on. Bigger discounts on the surplus GLE, Extended and ID vinyl came fairly early but don’t ever remember the original Disco vinyl ever being reduced much or at all, most of the variants sold out except the black one. We had the cassette bundle and those signed bundles dropping through the Disco debut week…that’s what drove Disco’s week one sales, not discounts. Thank you for the stats Jay….the physical market past week 1 is evaporating…..last weeks number 2 out of the top 80 in the midweek, Jorja out of the top 40 from 3 (thought she had streaming fans). Looking at yesterday’s midweeks there are hardly any new studio albums post debut week, it’s either Taylor, classic albums with multiple streaming hits, or Best Ofs.

Crazy it managed another 9 weeks top 100 after it went onto ACR! The first time I heard it I knew it would do well for her….just never this well for so long.

Padam could definitely return especially after An Audience With though the Christmas deluge will make it tougher.
