Julian rates every Top 40 hit: the 1980s edition
Great to see Twilight at the top of that group. It's more representative of the synth pop sound of the 'Time' album than the first single 'Hold On Tight'. Joan Of Arc and Favourite Shirts would make up the rest of my top 3.

Fyfe Dangerfield
I see Fyfe has now started up his own 24 radio station called 'The Stream'. I'm not aware of any other artist doing something like this before. THE STREAM IS HERE !!! What is The Stream? The Stream is a never-ending, ever-changing, constantly evolving lighthouse transmission, drawn from the ever-growing archive of my life in sound. Sketches of songs, productions-in-progress, improvisations, melodies in search of lyrics, chords in search of context, sounds in search of home, middle-of-the-night mumbles, renegade cartoon themes, choral & orchestral compositions, morning coffee-walk insights, late-night epiphanies, dreambeats, textures, musical zoomies, characters, spontaneous outpourings, searchings, findings, playings .. Stretching from as far back as the 1980s to the very present day & beyond .. recordings both unreleased, released & to be released. A living, breathing album, in the form of a radio station, broadcasting 24/7 .. with the running order curated by Chance. The Stream is where ideas go to swim. So come dive in .. stay as long as you like .. listen as you long as you stay .. all are welcome here, always! Yours delightedly, Fyfe Dangerfield Channels May Change founder With especial thanks to The Stream's co-creators, Channels May Change Vision Shepherd Gavin Bush, and bastions of independent broadcasting, Radiocult. So come take a dip at www.channelsmaychange.com/thestream

Pathetic batting by England in the second innings with each batsman trying to drive the ball outside off stump before playing himself in. They only batted for 68 overs in the match and will have to do much better in the second test. Fantastic innings by Travis Head to win the match.

I've just watched the highlights. There's lots of pace and bounce in that pitch. England's more aggressive batting seems to have come off as they were at least able to score more runs in between each wicket than Australia were. Great bowling by Mitchell Starc and Ben Stokes in particular.

BOP IDOL 5 - One Hit Wonders - The Results
Well done Gooddelta, 'These Are The Things' was a good discovery which I put 2nd in my own vote. I didn't know any of the entries here. Thanks to all who gave points to Wallflower. I was aware that It Bites had turned to prog rock eventually after their more pop oriented top 10 hit, Calling All The Heroes, but I hadn't got round to listening to their later albums. I had a quick listen to their albums from 2008 and 2012 and chose Wallflower as the song that I thought might represent them best. Thanks to Addy for another professional hosting job.

My record of the week 60 years ago
18th - 24th November 1965 28. Is It Really Over - Jim Reeves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLyAS-cceGM Another ballad in his usual style with stately orchestration. 34. Turquoise - Donovan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT0xkUbljKU A folk style ballad about Joan Baez which is spoilt by a very high pitched harmonica which was too piercing for my ears to enjoy the rest of the song. After two number 4s, this will be a miss, only reaching number 30. 37. The River (Le Colline Sono In Fioro) - Ken Dodd https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X74RolsIPI There's no doubt he sings this well but it's one for the grandparents' Christmas present only. Following up his chart topper, it will make its way to number 3. 38. Let's Hang On - The Four Seasons https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YzlwyAgefE One of this group's best known songs, the backing vocals combine well with Frankie Valli's falsetto and it has that killer chorus. Record of the week: 39. Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season) - The Byrds It's a close call between this one and 'Let's Hang On' but the lyrics, most of which are lifted form the book of Ecclesiastes, are a bit deeper, with a plea for peace amidst the escalation of the Vietnam War. There's also that characteristic jangly guitar sound. The song's writer, Pete Seeger, recorded it himself but the first version to be released was by The Limeliters in 1962. The Byrds' cover will be a US number 1 but only get to number 26 in the UK.

Thanks to the few who gave points to It Bites so far, especially AllStarBySmashMouth for the 12. Without that, they would be in bottom place.

I'm expecting to finish in the bottom half this time.
