Back on topic - it’s actually great to see that ‘Dai Dai’ hasn’t ‘just’ become a football hit and has grown outside of that. The World Cup gave it an incredible platform but it hasn’t plummeted post the games and seems to have crossed over to people who had no interest in the World Cup or were not exposed to it prior to the final. I’m sure ‘Waka Waka’ faded quite quickly after its initial release (despite going on to being a huge seller and chart returner).

Yes, of course the media should ‘shut up’ about an historical record that’s taken 70+ years to break, I mean where’s the news story in that? 🤔 It’s actually nice to see the charts get some widespread mainstream media coverage - it’s not often the charts command a news at ten feature outside of a Christmas #1 battle.

Yes it must have taken great guts to say you would rather covid came back that killed a reported 7.1 million people than have RMI as the record breaker. And you are absolutely correct that people don’t want to hear things like that when it impacted so many people personally.

Not sure it’s been glamorised, they are just reporting that a record has been broken. And I don’t think the press are anti-Wham, plenty of media stories when they reached #1 etc., - IF they achieve it the OCC will release a press release for media. I think/hope so too - otherwise it’ll just be a foregone conclusion that ‘Last Christmas’ will always be the Christmas #1 for however long it’s the favored streaming choice. It’s an absolute classic but it’s kind of killed the excitement of the Christmas charts and is just repeating when X Factor and Lad Baby achieved it year after year.
