Thats a really poor result for her following up a #1 album. With the 20 odd variants they were obviously aiming for a #1 or #2 at the very least, and even with the Harry support aside she recorded a lot of UK promo when she was here.

Happy for either result today for the #1 - both played the game with their 59p downloads and competitions so may the one that revved up their fanbase the most win.

I love ‘Your Disco Needs You’ and I’m convinced it would’ve been a huge hit had it been released. I was obsessed with it for years (and still really like it now) but I think it’s aged terribly.

I’m not shocked it’s not higher in iTunes - they were pushing fans to download it when it was first in the running for #1 so guessing most got in then (or over the course of the last year).

Guessing Shakira will get it with the new competition on her website - Team Sam/Polydor don’t seem to have put up much of a fight considering what an historic moment it would be for their artist.

People actually went out and bought it I’m sorry but in my opinion that’s ridiculous - the world has moved on, Our Price, Virgin, Zavvi and co have closed and everywhere stopped selling physical singles decades ago. There is literally nowhere on the high street that people could ‘go out and buy’ the single even if they wished as nowhere sells them (Including HMV). Also claiming other artists got it with ‘effort’ is a stretch too - people went to the high street and bought it along with everything else they wanted then the internet came along, there was a point when Boots and WHS were selling singles along with all the main supermarkets so people didn’t even need to make a special visit to a record shop. The early charts when Frankie achieved his record weren’t exactly bullet proof with their reporting - “The UK charts in 1953 and 1954 were informal and prone to errors, relying on manual phone calls and rough estimates rather than absolute data. Key issues included small sample sizes, tied rankings, and tracking both sides of a single record interchangeably.”

Didn’t forget it - just listed the places it’s gone Top 40. Massive achievement for him in the US - his first song to make the Billboard Top 100 and has been certified gold for 500,000 units.

You keep saying this like it’s a bad thing? Who cares where it’s popular - there are literally hundreds of local artists who only do well in their home market with massive selling releases. And I should hope that ‘Dai Dai’ is popular around the world - it was literally played pre and post match at the World Cup games, and multiple times at the final along with a performance - a rare opportunity for a song to get that kind of extended exposure on a global scale. When they reached 16 and 18 weeks it was reported on by the BBC, Sky News, NME, Billboard, The Guardian etc., I’m sure the OCC will push out a press release if it makes it this week for some headlines. And I think Kylie was the last over 40 (and over 50) female at #1 just over 6 months ago.

I really can’t see RMI troubling the top spot again after this stint. Ariana’s album is out next week and RMI is naturally declining on streaming. I hope they get it this week as it’ll be a huge news story which might get some people interested/looking at the official charts again.

They’ve already passed Bryan’s 16 weeks - although of course he holds most consecutive weeks. They are currently tied with Frankie Laine for joint most weeks at #1 (18).
