Wet Wet Wet was a gimmick that it was withdrawn to try and stay at the top to match Bryan Adams and beat the incoming threat of Whigfield. Even after it was ‘withdrawn’ it still managed to achieve a chart run of: 2-4-8-16-21-35-39…. so there was still plenty of stock available.

Records are made to be broken - can’t say Bryan Adams is a personal favourite or one I’ve heard for decades played anywhere and Al Martino spent 9 weeks at #1 so hate to break it to you they passed that weeks ago (although his was consecutive so don’t think they’ll be challenging that).

Huge differences in market share / number of listeners - Apple Music has 15-23% of the UK market while Spotify has 47-55%, potentially ‘easier’ for a promoted song to appear higher on Apple with a smaller user base? Also guessing demographics are different between Spotify and AM - a lot of AM users get free premium with their mobile contracts.

Seems like it’s the right decision by Team Sam to hold back on the physicals until next week (it’s listed as being released next Friday so could count the week after?!). Pending any other surprise physical drops looks like they’ve got it in the bag for a 14th week at the top (also a tiny fraction of 123 sales up on last week).
