I’m not sure it is ‘such BS’ as you so eloquently put it. A billion streams on Spotify earns between £2.3 to £3.8 million. However there are huge variables - generative income from countries where premium plans are much lower (in some countries Spotify Premium costs as little as £2), exchange rates, publisher costs, co-writers etc., - some of which would have been in play in the physical world however when taken into account I’m not convinced a 1 billion streamed song earns anymore than a 600,000 platinum single that was only released physically.

Amazon historically always throw some support behind the previous years exclusives so should be similar this year. Some auto plays mixed in with the new Amazon exclusives this year is almost a guarantee too.

I thought the setlist was perfect and loved how it flowed but I always hope for any nod to Impossible Princess. BTDYK always seems to get shunned despite being such a standout/iconic track.

There has always been the claim that labels pay however I’m not convinced that is a widespread thing. Not that they supported Kylie much before but guessing she’s been further ‘blacklisted’ after giving Amazon a streaming exclusive last year - historically they seem to punish artists that have had an Amazon exclusive with their subsequent releases.

At the time everyone was saying because the Kylie one was a duet/collab of a previously released song that Spotify don’t support them however they’ve put Madonna and Charli straight to #3 on NMF. It’s hard to not feel that they ignore anything Kylie related when they support nothing - collabs, hit songs (Padam, Tension) etc.,

No, ‘Light Years’ was released on its intended date. I’m sure when planning the release they didn’t want to go head to head with Madonna’s release week but equally I’m not convinced they would have thought they had a #1 in the bag even in the 2nd week despite the singles success off the back of the Deconstruction era album performances.
