I often think this and how Kylie must have felt at the time. I guess in terms of her ‘indie’ sound even if the album had been more successful there was no guarantee if she would continue with the sound as she had switched from the sound of K94 to IP. I think it was probably more of a realization of what next - she had parted ways after huge success with PWL and knew that the Deconstruction venture hadn’t been a commercial success and she essentially, was going to be without a record deal which must have been difficult and regardless of what sound she ventured with next would anyone be interested. I think the fact that she hardly refers back to the IP era shows it probably hurt her it didn’t get the response she wanted at the time, and I love the fact that she acknowledged the belated love for the album when the re-issue went Top 5.

Went with Dance To The Music but I actually don’t dislike it or think it’s particularly weak but there are so many good songs stuffed on this album.

Never expected it to get near to re-entering so a pleasant surprise that she got 2 entries - Queen of NYE playlists

Agree - it’s a solid pop album and no skips for me and totally work as an album.

It’s my favourite album and even though I wanted it to be massive (and it deserved to be) I’m kind of glad on reflection that it wasn’t - it would’ve changed her musical journey and I’m not convinced we would have seen the longevity of career she has had if she had gone down the IP route.

That surge for Jungle!
