Chart Mod

  1. I'm also curious about how well 1989 original is going to do in the interim... it has 12 more weeks before Taylor's Version takes over! It's been in the Top 10 or Top 20 for the past few months. With the hype of this announcement I wonder where 1989 could be in the charts next week?

It's currently on its 437th week in the Top 200 (tomorrow will be week 438), it'll reach its 449th week on 1989 TV's release date. Beyond that it could get a few more weeks in the Top 200 (Speak Now original was #101 in the week the TV release went to #1).

1989 (Taylor's Version) has been announced today! How will this re-recording fare in the UK? Vote in the poll and let us know what you've chosen in a reply. You can give a more specific prediction in your reply too!

Although the formats are not yet available via her UK store (Edit: they are now!), the US store indicates that there will be a vinyl, cassette and 5 CDs, although this could of course grow with the potential for more vinyl formats.

I feel like it's safe to assume that it won't open with less than Speak Now (67.1k), but I've put a couple of lower options in the poll anyway. I've also included some rather high sales options. Maybe Q4 could lead to something massive...

Some recent Taylor Swift album opening sales:

    67,112 - Speak Now (Taylor's Version)

    204,501 - Midnights

    72,319 - Red (Taylor's Version)

    21,145 - Fearless (Taylor's Version)

  3. Miley's Bangerz tour was quite extensive, 78 dates from February to October 2014 across North America, Europe, Latin America and Oceania. So in that sense the Bangerz era was still active throughout that year. Therefore it seems weird that the label didn't try to push at least one more single during that time, even if it was a low effort affair. They could have arranged a "tour montage clips" music video.

I don't actually agree that the choice of Adore You as a single specifically killed the era. Bangerz was hovering around the UK Top 40 while Adore You was her current single, which was something of a revival. It wasn't like Bangerz had been massive for weeks and then tanked when Adore You came out - in fact the album had already departed the UK Top 40 in early December 2013, which was in advance of Adore You officially becoming a single. So off the back of two #1 singles, Miley hadn't suddenly become a massive albums artist. Outside of its first week, it performed modestly well. Adore You gave the album a little boost, and then it fell away when nothing else was forthcoming. The tour reaching the UK only helped the album to re-enter the Top 100 for 2 weeks.

So really I think the era was killed off pretty much by choice, due to them not releasing another single to try and extend its life further!

  4. It's been so long since I heard Bangerz that I can't remember the album tracks to know which (if any) were potential missed single opportunities. What I do recall is that I wasn't particularly taken with the album at the time... I didn't play it much at all! Which must be why I struggle to recall the songs!

Personally I like Adore You, it's pretty and romantic. Maybe it wasn't an obvious third single, particularly as a ballad following up a ballad. Having said that, other than We Can't Stop and Wrecking Ball, it was the only other song to make the UK Singles Top 100 in the album's release week. Could it be the case that it started off well elsewhere too, which maybe swayed the decision to make it a single? It didn't do badly in the US - it reached #21 there. Interestingly Bangerz was Miley's first album to go as far as having a third single. She has quite a few "2 singles only" eras.

Looking at her Official Charts history, I totally forgot that Wrecking Ball came out in the same week as Bangerz in the UK!

The Original 1990 version of Higher Love has been made available to stream/download for the first time ever, via this EP!

Also the next set of Whitney vinyl reissues are coming on 17th November! I'm Your Baby Tonight, The Preacher's Wife OST and My Love Is Your Love. Can't find UK links yet but they're up for pre-order in the US.

A couple of days ago, Carly's gig at The Rooftop at Pier 17 had to be cut short because of thunderstorms:

Which prompted her to make very quick rearrangements rather than outright cancel:

At the Rockwood Music Hall she did three separate sets, with different groups of fans for different sets (because of the small capacity) https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/carly-rae-je...y-43a45f0f.html

    She's just the best

Album is on repeat! I think it's easier for me to say which songs aren't my favourites rather than list the favourites: not too enamoured with Aeroplanes or Weekend Love.

Shadow is emerging as a big favourite for me too! The "City to city, heartbeat to heartbeat, body to body / you got me, you got me" part of the chorus.

I feel like Psychedelic Switch is like a long lost Kylie Minogue track, maybe circa Fever... I just love it!
