The Iranian response was classic saving face for a domestic audience. They have locked down the Internet and telecoms and control the tv. They can domestically project what they want to save face at home while not picking a fight with the US. Feels like a negotiated off ramp they could take to not be seen as weak and embolden internal opposition, letting out some frustration, and also showing the US that they are willing to strike out at their military installations if the us decides to press further. Seems to have been well received by the moulding kumquat. Honestly, much of the travel industry would be overjoyed if the airspace around Qatar and the UAE was suddenly problematic. Emirates, Etihad and Qatar have never made a single cent in profit between them but they’ve absolutely wrecked a lot of the legacy carriers. The tourist money would just migrate to Egypt or Saudi, and the hubs would relocate to either Istanbul or the old kangaroo model of Europe + Asia (eg start airport to Heathrow then Hong Kong or Bangkok or Singapore then onto your destination) If those three money laundering exercises masquerading as airlines could no longer fly effectively Qantas, Lufthansa, AF-KLM, Turkish, Malaysian, Cathy and Singapore would throw a party (while Trebling their fares overnight).

Winter fuel payment should only go to those in genuine poverty, regardless of age, and be credited directly to their power/gas account Not here for Rosemary at number 23 who’s no had a mortgage/rent payment to make in 20 years on a house that cost her £23.71 to begin with getting £300 tax free when her disposable income is leagues higher than a struggling single mum of 2 who has 3p in her bank account and starves herself in the winter to be able to heat the house for an hour a day. There are people who genuinely struggle in winter with being able to afford heating. They should get help. All the help they need. But universal and restricted to the coffin dodgers is a big no.

all of this here is exactly my view. All these extremely necessary things for survival and society shouldn’t be run for profit. It’s not as if you have 6 different gas pipes going to the house and you can chose whose to connect to the stove. Like it’s the same gas regardless of who „sold“ it to you and so what you have is an illusion of choice where you get the exact same damn molecules of gas and instead choose what group of shareholders pockets you would rather line

I generally consider myself to be in the social democratic camp and so Centre-Left. Mostly I do lean left, especially on fiscal policy and state intervention. There are some times i lean more centrist or lightly center-right. but its a little rarer and my overall picture id say is predominantly on the left
