No, it’s only the final that counts towards a one contest ban

Germany (Chefsache) · Eurovision Song Contest 2025
I’ve seen Cloudy June live! She was the support for Nico Santos when I saw him a few months ago in Berlin. I liked her enough to send one of her tracks to BJSC which I think says a lot. She could sing live and had some pretty good tracks

Trump: Folie à Deux (US Politics Thread)
One thing you miss about the H1-B visa is that the alternate to hiring someone from India on 75k isn’t an American on 250k it’s actually an offshore Indian on 40k. The H1-B visa actually keeps the wage tax and social security contributions in the US instead of that US corporation funding the Indian equivalent. Also, that person is paying rent and buying groceries etc and contributing to the local economy. Companies have been outsourcing for decades. They care about profit and getting the skills they need to do the job. India has invested heavily in IT education and so that’s where you can get skills at a lower cost, win win for a company. You can’t tell a company how to run their business or where to hire people. So your actual true alternate to a H1-B is the company in question sets up a subsidiary in India and hires local talent instead of Americans Capitalism reigns supreme in the US, you have to calculate than in when you think about things. Corporations will always do whatever maximises their profits.

BJSC 171 IS BRAT FINAL RESULTS
Congrats Cody!!! Thanks for the great hosting Kath! And thanks everyone for returning Rd‘Á to the top 5!! Really pleased you all enjoyed our little trip to Italy this month!! I discovered the song being played on a loudspeaker in a Piazza in Recco on the Italian Riviera as we were waiting for a workshop repairing the puncture in a tyre on our rental car.

Norway (Melodi Grand Prix) · Eurovision Song Contest 2025
Jahq is extremely correct that Tone is superior to what was served up last year. Queen Tone reigns supreme, the sooner you get on board the easier it is

BJSC 171 IS BRAT FINAL
You have to vote for 15. occasionally we accept votes with 14 but it’s where a clear error has been made in the numbering and it’s obviously an accident.

The decline and fall of the pop nations...
There has always been a bit of a cycle of what genres are popular, it’s natural and happens in the charts and in wider culture as well. We here at BJSC are no different. I am very strongly against any form of attempt to „encourage“ past participants to return. If it’s involuntary then it’s not sustainable. People leave for many different reasons, some don’t change with time and sometimes it’s a lack of drive to participate, trying to pull people back doesn’t work long term because the factor that stopped them in the first place is still there. If people have the time and space to come and go as they please they feel more able to enter when they have a random spark of inspiration or time and it’s less of an obligation. I think sometimes it’s forgotten that BJSC participants are a diverse body of people with very different lives, interests and schedules. This isn’t an obligation, it’s supposed to be a fun way to discover new music. Some people forget that a little too often

The Official Labour Calmer Steering Thread (mk III)
Honestly I think the polls are nothing to be concerned about. Labour are hideously over represented in parliament as a by product of get them out itis, in 5 years time there will be a natural correction but labour will still form the next government. Unless they do something truly awful We’re still feeling the Tory pain, it’ll take a couple of years before the average person starts to feel the material impact in the pocket, and basically the full term before they start to notice it in places like public services. That’ll be enough for us to get a second starmer term

BJSC 171 IS BRAT SEMI FINALS
Eeeeeeeep I had the deadline completely incorrect in my head as the 26th. Fingers crossed we just about scrape through so I can redeem myself in the final

Norway (Melodi Grand Prix) · Eurovision Song Contest 2025
We have Tone Damli and NOTHING else is required. They should have just internally selected her and be done with it tbh. We all know queen Tone is the only valid option here. I am going to Norway in August and I will RIOT if they chose incorrectly

Hopefully the mess plays out before May this year instead of in Eurovision week itself. But would be great to see Moldova unwithdraw

TikTok to be banned in the US on 19 Jan
That’s exactly my point. It’s a separate app although it looks identical and runs the same way etc it’s still an entirely separate app behind the the great firewall

BJSC 171 IS BRAT SEMI FINALS
Yeah, we’ve been sticking with 20 for consistency for a wee while now

TikTok to be banned in the US on 19 Jan
I think you’d be hard pushed to find evidence of GCHQ monitoring your social media usage but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen

TikTok to be banned in the US on 19 Jan
Tiktok isn’t available in China either…

TikTok to be banned in the US on 19 Jan
I don’t think this is the correct thing to do, it feels very much like Silicon Valley having a fit because it cannot compete against one of the extremely rare Chinese products that has gone global without the help of dumping or overwhelming tax breaks and state subsidies. This isn’t about fairness it’s about the monopolisation of the worlds data and its monetisation by Americans. I am generally uneasy about the fact that the Chinese state has access to user data but let’s not pretend as if the US Gov can’t and doesn’t lean on Meta etc. especially now that Musk is defacto president. TikTok has some serious issues with disinformation and political propaganda manipulating populations in election periods, but they’re not the only app to suffer from this, and Twitter literally just did this in the US and is now focusing on the UK and Germany. These are serious concerns that should be addressed and resolved but not with a ban. We’re not dictators. If trump changes his mind again I do worry that we will end up with a ban forced upon other states for fear of economy ruining tariffs, or worse that the western version of the app is forced into American hands
