Song Covers SoundClash #83
Actually gone for Hermes here. It's better than the Country Roads thing at least. Mandy has a nice voice but this song is on the uninteresting side of things here.

Round 7: Year End Survivor #119
Girls Aloud coasting a long for a mediocre single oops. The Script are vanilla generally but 'Breakeven' is their best track imo so glad it's done well.

Round 1: Year End Survivor #121

#117 1st 16/28 Votes Their only top 40 hit in the UK brings Wu-Tang Clan a win in this survivor. It peaked at 6. The chorus "back back and forth fourth" is taken from the funk group Cameo's single 'Back and Forth'. According to The Wu-Tang Manual the beat for the track was sampled from Antoine Duhamel's soundtrack to a French TV miniseries entitled Belphegor. The trumpet introduction can be heard too using 'It's A Mans Mans World' by James Brown. Producer RZA originally wanted Aaliyah to record the track but her tragic passing meant that it didn't come to fruition. Rza and Raekwon also provide spoken bits on the track. 2nd 11/28 Votes Former Big Brovaz ladies Cherise Roberts and Nadia Shepherd formed as Booty Luv in 2006 and released one album as a duo. 'Boogie2Nite' the first single was a big success reaching 2 with 'Shine', the second hit peaking at 10 and here it makes it to the final two. Half of their singles released were covers and this one was one of those as it was originally done by Luther Vandross. A club remix of Luther's was gaining popularity around the time which is what then lead to the girls covering it. 3rd: Akon - Right Now (Na Na Na) 16/29 votes (55%) 4th: Lemar - 50/50 14/29 votes (48%) 5th: Destiny’s Child - Emotion 10/30 votes (33%) 6th: Mariah Carey - Get Your Number / Shake It Off 9/30 votes (30%) 7th: Cast Of High School Musical - Breaking Free 8/31 votes (26%) 8th: George Michael - Freeek! 11/32 votes (34%) 9th: Geraldine - The Winner’s Song 13/30 votes (43%) 10th: Peter Andre - Insania 13/33 (39%)

Round 6: Year End Survivor #119
It says a lot when 'Breakeven' is my fave remaining here and even that's a 8/10. Have swapped to Kelly as she has had more votes than GA but don't care for Fedde either much.

#116 1st 17/31 Votes (54%) Robbie reigns 'Supreme' over S Club 7 here. It was the third single to be taken off his hugely acclaimed third album Sing When You're Winning and peaked at 4 in December 2000 and was the fourth #4 peak of 7 in Robbie's career ('Angels', 'No Regrets', 'Strong' and then 'Feel', 'Come Undone' and 'Rudebox' coming after). It used an interpolation of Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive'. The string instrument part is a François de Roubaix-composed piece from the José Giovanni-directed film Dernier domicile connu starring Lino Ventura and Marlène Jobert. It's also noticeably remembered video wise for it's F1 theme paying ode to driver Jackie Stewart and stock footage showing Robbie and Jackie can be seen digitally inserted creating the perfect near illusion of a neck and neck pursuit of the championship title and the video makes great use of the split screen techniques implemented like in 60's and 70's movies and especially the 1966 racing movie Grand Prix. Another movie cliche, fake newspaper headlines are shown intermittently to help narrate the story. 2nd 14/31 Votes (45%) runner up goes to S Club 7 with their winter soppy themed ballad released in aid of Children in Need 2000, 'Never Had a Dream Come True'. It became the groups 2nd of 4 number one singles and it's accompanied by the Christmasy tingled video which despite not being promoted or supposed to be counted as a Christmas song might as well be by the visuals and presentation. It improves on it's 6th place in it's other YE survivor appearance all the way back in the #9 edition. The track also gave them their only top 10 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart. A Demo version of the song was used in the opening theme to the shows S Club Let's Go Wild! and the Christmas special while the instrumental version was briefly heard in another show by them called Artistic Differences. 3rd: Fall Out Boy - Dance Dance 15/30 votes (50%) 4th: Robbie Williams - Come Undone 12/32 votes (38%) 5th: Razorlight - Wire To Wire 21/31 votes (68%) 6th: Ordinary Boys - I Luv U 14/32 votes (44%) 7th: Abs - What You Got 12/31 votes (39%) 8th: N Dubz - I Need You 11/28 votes (39%) 9th: 50 Cent - Just A Lil’ Bit 10/31 votes (32%) 10th: Ronan Keating - I Hope You Dance 14/27 votes (52%)

#115 1st 19/33 Votes (57%) The second single from Noisettes second album Wild Young Hearts, 'Never Forget You' takes the win here. It peaked at 20 in the charts but has sold over 600k copies and spending 11 non consecutive weeks in the top 40. It followed up the big #2 hit before it in 'Don't Upset The Rhythm'. The band performed this on an episode of teen drama show One Tree Hill and also the Wendy Williams show. Jai McConnell sang the song at the Blind Auditions for the third series of The Voice (2014). 2nd 14/33 Votes (42%) Originally released in 2000 not charting until the following year where it peaked at 5 is Dandy Warhol's with their memorable tune 'Bohemian Like You' and sees the band playing on the karaoke machines and having silly fun. The track has sponsored many notable adverts such as the likes of Vodafone and car ranges from the company Ford and featured in endless shows and films. It was also used in a Mousse T mashup for the 2006 single 'Horny Like A Dandy' which reached 17. 3rd: Nelly Furtado - All Good Things (Come To An End) (44%) 4th: Lily Allen - LDN 15/33 votes (45%) 5th: T2 featuring Jodie Aysha - Heartbroken 14/28 votes (50%) 6th: Avril Lavigne - Don’t Tell Me 15/33 votes (45%) 7th: Eminem - When I’m Gone 8/30 votes (27%) 8th: Stereophonics - Handbags & Gladrags 10/31 votes (32%) 9th: Puff Daddy featuring R. Kelly - Satisfy You 27/29 votes (93%) 10th: Cliff Richard - Santa’s List 18/30 votes (60%)

Julian rates every 21st century Top 40 hit
Week 49 & 50 'If You're Not The One' is a nice ballad. 'Rushes' another really solid single from Darius. 'United States Of Whatever' is a hoot and 'Posse' is another earworm from Scooter and I do like 'Never Again' at least from a musical element. Have the Atomic Kitten CD's of those two singles but not crazy on them nowadays Enrique is fine but not one of his best likewise with Anastacia. 'Lose Yourself' and 'Feel' also would be my top songs by both Eminem and Robbie respectively. 'Cheeky Song' is fun but they should've left it at that just that oops. Always quite liked that Liberty X track as well, really nice and 'Put Him Out' is sounding decent and enjoyed the 'It's A Rainbow' dancey release too which I first became aware of via mixcloud uploads during lockdown.

Was kinda hoping on a rare occurrence that Kelly went that time as it's not one of her best for me oops. Oh well. Girls Aloud again but not many I can say I really like left.

Poor Sonique but still it's hard to rank these left. Madison probably the weakest remaining for me.

gooddelta ranks the UK No.1s of 2000
Good to see 'Same Old Band New You' as high as 22. Their second best song after 'Caught In The Middle' easily. Oops at Kylie missing out on top 20. Do much prefer 'On A Night Like This' though.

gooddelta ranks the UK No.1s of 2000
A lot of these I don't hate as such but also are dated and haven't held up that well so seem fair ranks thus far. Do still unashamedly like 'Bag It Up' though even with it's naffness and would probably put Bob higher up a little too. 'American Pie' I like in both versions but understandably also not essential Madonna.

2000s singles making the top 40 for the first time in recent times
This thread is for older 21st Century songs that either didn't chart at the time or charted outside the top 40 that have made the top 40 for the first time in recent memory. Coldplay - Sparks wasn't listed as an official single but had made the chart with a 94 peak until this week where it sits at 40. Imogen Heap's 'Headlock' is the other one that comes to mind. Originally peaked at 74 in 2006 and peaked at 30 earlier this year. Is there any other examples?
