Reading through this thread properly while working in Geneva Airport arrivals hall so I'm really living Addy's theme. Thankyou for hosting! Wawa By The Ocean was one of my more interesting/inspired entries at the time and I felt like it flopped harder than I expected it to so this is huge justice for Mary + Julianna! Absolutely delighted to have won! I was a teenager the last time I won and now I'm in my 30s lmao. Thanks for all the lovely comments and the hype that came out of nowhere (I was quietly confident of finishing well from the outset but certainly not this well!). I know it's a bit of an alt bloc song but the points actually came from quite diverse tastes, as they normally need to in order to get enough points to secure the win. Do check out the full album which is a wonderful listen, as well as Tourist x Julianna if like me you loved both Hendinia's and my entry, as wildly different as they are. Also really happy that Eledan and Lentyll join a solid top 10. I will get rather busy with work/volunteering from 22nd August onwards but if it's possible to do so on a tight-ish timeline then I'd be happy to host!

I listened to the album before sending and was also tempted by Melted Moon and Rachel's Song! The album is an amazing listen all the way through.

This random hype wtf I personally think that Hendinia will win. But if it misses out then perhaps it's because it was in fact missing a bit of Julianna Barwick who appears on two tracks of that Tourist album.

Super late but Hartlepool 2021 by-election was a maddening recent example of pork-barrel politics and worked really well. Lots of promises of local investment/levelling up that apparently could only happen if the current Tory government went from an 80 seat majority to an 81 seat majority. The 'vote green get illegals' policy is an extremely cynical version of that. It also plays into the belief that conservatives have that everyone - even would-be Green voters - is in fact secretly racist, they're just the only ones brave enough to be loud and proud about it.

Booked an economy ticket for a minimal techno artist, from memory my first Polish entry. Probably too left-field to get a business class upgrade.

I vaguely remember the 1999 eclipse and the millenium happening - I was 5 for these. Foot and mouth epidemic in 2001 was strongest for me as I grew up on a farm so it was very much a news event that was directly around me. I remember that better than 9/11 in the same year. I think I also remember the 2000 fuel price protests/queues/panic buying because again they were very strong in a rural area, whereas I don't remember Iraq war protests at all. I remember fox hunting getting banned and I remember the Fathers 4 Justice stunts too lol. Also remember the Soham murders, England vs Australia 2003 Rugby World Cup final was my first sporting memory I think.

There must be number crunching that can be done to see whether tied songs that scrape through on 17th/18th etc. end up doing better in the final after having received a shallow but wide pool of votes in the semi or a few high scores. You are welcome - I know a good amount of West Out West but that song seemed quite obscure given its view/listen count but really sounded like it should be a classic of theirs, great discovery.

Also extremely surprised at the winner right now! I gave Botanikka one point in the semi and six from me in the final thanks to it growing on me, which has perhaps happened to others? Also delighted by the Eledan performance but wouldn't be opposed to any of the five tracks above it winning.

Sorry dived in and seen the scoreboard which has been NINTH. Barker had borderline qualifier predictions - of course not taking this for granted and I'm delighted at one of my favourite songs of the year doing so well, but I swear my instrumental electronic entries consistently beat expectations!
