OPINION POLLS 2019-2024
@1574033618091085824 Not the most remarkable poll, but a Truss honeymoon just isn't forthcoming, is it? The last few weeks have been the best opportunities to introduce herself properly to the public - and the queen dying was not something that necessarily should have taken away the limelight given that it involved two momentous occasions of huge visibility imv. Conference is maybe the last opportunity she'll have before being treated as a midterm PM. I think in 6 months they will be routinely polling in the mid 20s.

The Tory Liz and deceit thread Mk. II
It's not been too long since we had days of dramatic market reactions but lately it's been too horrifying to watch (energy prices). This time it's closer to the feeling of schadenfreude when the pound tanked after the 2016 referendum, especially since I earn in euros.

BJSC148 | Confirmations
If I could get away with sending Honda which is an album track that I think hasn't got the attention it has deserved then I genuinely would!!

BJSC148 | Confirmations
Tbf I think my last.fm link is in my signature so it's always pretty easy to find out mine if you really want to. I'll normally listen to my entry on the day I confirm.

Ok since I'm unlikely to be given Mali at Worldvision I went for something completely different.

All three of the artists I want to send have previously injustly DNQ'd and I'm scared of merely adding to the injustice.

Have your politics shifted?
I don't think my views have changed so much but my attitude definitely has. While I see flaws with distance, I really liked Nicola Sturgeon as FM when I lived in Scotland but Scottish politics has a limited sphere of influence and there's nobody equally likeable and powerful in France or England. Now that anyone whose views chime with mine feels quite irrelevant, I feel a lot more jaded with the mainstream. A lot of it is to do with Keir Starmer and I just don't trust a government of his to make life better for someone like me (always a question I am wondering as I weigh up whether to stay in France), even if an election of a Labour government feels more likely than is normally the case.

Hudson Mohawke - Cry Sugar
Such a great, varied album! Loving the James Ferraro vibes on Nork 69.

Apologies, didn't realise the deadline was last night, which would have been tricky anyway. Will send votes tonight assuming that they are still being accepted.

Energy costs set to increase by 54%
What's interesting is that in the UK all the discussion seems to be about the price, whereas in most other countries it seems to be about supply, although energy prices are also rising rapidly elsewhere, if not quite as obscenely as in Britain. The French PM has asked every business to put in place a strategy to reduce energy consumption in the next month and has warned that businesses, not households, will be the first to be cut off when shortages occur. I don't think the UK is prepared for rolling blackouts or having to ration supply this winter, and is about to elect a prime minister whose default tone seems to be optimism. Just like with Johnson there will be a recurring problem of minimising issues and avoiding telling the whole story until the problem gets too big to ignore and the costs are much higher than if action was taken earlier, and that goes for both policy problems and scandals.

Energy costs set to increase by 54%
Could be helpful to know that modern light bulbs use next-to-no energy compared to basically anything else in your home. The main drain on your bills is going determined how much you cook and heat. The amount you save from heating your home only to 16c is enormous compared to anything you save from unplugging phantom appliances, but of course the former is dangerous for elderly people which is why this winter will be so deadly. The amount that bills are going up in the UK means that you can adopt a behaviour that's as energy-efficient as possible all you like, that won't be enough to cover even a fraction of the price increases. I'm not saying that that they're bad practices to have or that education doesn't have its place, but it's gaslighting - no pun intended - for governments or gas companies to talk about energy-saving tips when it won't stop you being cold.

🦋 BJSC 147 • SEMI-FINALS 🦋
The first half of semi 1 was excellent and then.... at least I'd found my 10 to vote for early on x

🦋 BJSC 147 • CONFIRMATIONS 🦋
My entry - if it doesn't get vetoed - sounds like an Altyr/St Burbia entry lol

Energy costs set to increase by 54%
When I look at the UK headlines, they all resonate in France and no doubt across Europe, but energy, cost of living, power shortages, transport strikes, staffing and supply chain issues all seem orders of magnitude worse in the UK. Only the drought and wildfires are causing much worse problems here. I had an accident last month and I was in an ambulance within 15 minutes and receiving treatment in hospital as soon as I arrived. It's quite scary to think how that would have gone if I was in Britain.

How long will Boris last as PM?
I can only hope that with such a bitter resignation speech he will have Dominic Cummings' scorched earth attitude and have so much to dig up and leak to make the successor's life difficult.
