If the UK general election has taught me anything it's that mainstream coverage is awful at getting individual, meaningful results (all those missed result announcements on 4th July!) and this time we have such a partial set of early information - these are mostly partial counts and we don't know exactly if these partial Indiana votes are more early votes, mail votes or election day votes. So nuanced takes are really important. I said partial like 3 times

Wow, I really didn't expect the 18 to go to Terra! Delighted with that and I would have felt bad if Terra missed out by a couple of points as their 15 was nearly interchangeable with my 18. Can't believe that Elkka came 11th (just 1 point off a top 10!) with my best placement of the year, I really didn't expect that either. I voted for 8/10 of the top 10 which is insane.

I think under a Trump victory scenario - assuming we are not just gonna get Trump support amongst WWC voters underestimated for a 3rd election in a row - then if any dem state would be run close then it would be New Mexico rather than New Hampshire. Similarly I have Hawaii as being not-even-safe after being the best Dem state in 2016.

If there is a big shift overall, or with certain demographics, then we will probably have a good idea just by looking at the margins/turnout in two counties in Indiana: Hamilton County (affluent, white suburban county) and Lake County (white working class with a lot of black/hispanic voters too). Indiana of course isn't competitive but it counts super quickly and is the first state in the US to close polls, alongside Kentucky. It's what told me in 2020 that Biden would win the 3 midwestern swing states. The very first results were Florida which of course were very scary and weren't even close to being repeated anywhere else in the country. If those two counties don't show a clear shift or if they shift in different directions then we'll be waiting for each swing state, which wouldn't be unexpected given how tight the polling is. I'm travelling to the UK on Wednesday so happy to mess up my sleep pattern again and then sleep through the train/bus/plane journeys that will take up the entire day.

The best and most accessible of Animal Collective's 14 (? I've lost count) albums. It's actually really difficult to filter my music library by album/song release year ugh.

Most mainstream would be Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros from that earlier Spotify thread I guess. But cheapest entry is harder to answer, there are subcategories to this: - Entries that only became cheap in hindsight as they blew up - Entries that were cheap but I'm not paying attention and I'm not aware of who is actually unknown and who has a decent following/had already been sent before - Actually cheap Bicep - Just Burial - Space Cadet Electrovamp - I Don't Like The Vibe In The VIP Floating Points - Falaise Franz Ferdinand - Ulysses Jai Paul - He Krystal Klear - Neutron Dance Magdalena Bay - Dreamcatching I think I already knew that all the above artists/entries were already pretty acclaimed. Excluding a good few entries that are of disadvantaged genres (let's call it that) here. I think that automatically frees them of the cheap label. And also excluding some like Gang Gang Dance last year where their peak popularity was long gone and they were kinda forgotten about at the time I sent them, as well as obscure songs/versions of otherwise well known artists or tracks (that Live in Australia version of Chime/Crime is so lit). And in there is Electrovamp which is hardly acclaimed but was a minor chart hit just a few years before.
