Buzzjackfestivalen VI ● Andra Chansen
I realise that this is assumedly Sweden's fault and not Buzzjack's but one thing that's very unsatisfying is that we have 12 songs in each heat, 12 songs in Andra Chansen and then only 11 in the final. why don't we have Andra Chansen of Andra Chansen to make a 12th finalist x Actually nvm I realised that the number of total songs and thus number in the initial heat is arbitrary and depends on the number of people choosing to enter.

BUZZJACKFESTIVALEN VI ● The Results
Oops I missed my heat's results. Allow me to interrupt heat 2's for a second: 12 01 Zanmatony Velvet - Chemistry 10 8 06 Numayania Thomas Cheval - Baguette 6 4 2 11 Republic of Adonia Ocean Kelly - Wanda's Cunty Vision I'm rather surprised at coming 3rd-5th but equally 5th place had 40 points, which is still close to 9th place's 32 points. Perhaps I just got lucky.

By-elections 2024
Jayda Fransen, Anne-Marie Waters AND George Galloway on the same ballot, and no doubt some of the others are rather unsavoury too. The fash are spoilt for choice. Here's hoping that Jayda gets crowded out and gets fewer votes than the 46 she had in Glasgow South, although given that it's in England I imagine she'll get a few more.

Coronavirus Discussion
This is what the health authority says. Something about covid patients being completely protected for at least 3 months and then there being a certain immunity memory beyond then that allows complete protection with just one dose (except for immunocompromised people who've already had covid who will have two doses). It doesn't imply that the vaccine is ineffective if given before 3 months but I guess this is in the context of very limited stocks.
-
Coronavirus Discussion
Get well soon! Are you sure that you'll be able to get that vaccine? I'm not sure of the science behind it but here you have to wait 3 months after testing positive before getting vaccinated, but the flipside is that you only need one dose to be considered fully vaccinated if you've already tested positive. Instead, three doses are given to immunocompromised people.

Coronavirus Discussion
Is it not £240 of tests if you arrive from an amber country? I thought you had to show proof of having bought two £120 tests from friends of Tories a list of government-approved providers on your arrival to England. Of course private tests can be bought for like £50 and then here testing is free and accessible regardless of purpose or social security status.

By-elections 2024
Hartlepool was perhaps the worst Labour-held constituency for a by-election to be held in this parliamentary cycle. Batley isn't so bad, although I'd say that it's still a bit worse than the average of Labour's 200 seats*. But I think if the Hartlepool result was replicated with Batley's demographics then it would still be a defeat for Labour, so they need to run a better campaign rather than just relying on more favourable demographics. Of course, for the Tory majority to be threatened next general election, a sign would be them losing Batley not just by a little but fairly handily. It's also important to recognise that this seat has only had a Labour majority once, in 2017. It only switched to Labour in 1997 after voting for the Tories in Thatcher's time, and even at the height of Tony Blair's popularity, Labour could only manage a plurality. *You can go into census breakdowns if you want, but honestly I find that the 2015 UKIP vote is a pretty good indicator for everything that follows, and at 18% it was rather high here. The BNP presence has also historically been large.

Coronavirus Discussion
Labour know full well that there's a certain demographic in Britain who instinctively take a liking to the sound of 'close the borders!' regardless of if there's a pandemic or not. It won't help them for debate about covid measures to be on this territory.

Cinema 2021
I've seen just six films this year - none in the cinema - and barely one per month isn't great going. Midsommar Drag Me To Hell Nomadland Bug Tenet La Cité de la Peur (I now see that there's a separate thread for films in general but oh well x)

<Buzzjackfestivalen VI> Confirmations
It's horrendous. I understand why Eurovision songs have to be under 3 minutes, but the gimmick of a song that's less than 3 minutes I don't think is particularly interesting as a theme (which is partially why I sent a troll entry to a previous iteration of BJfestivalen in the form of the radio edit of my own cover of John Cage's 4'33") but I wanna discover more music, as always, so I'm participating anyway. Sending the only track from my monthly playlists so far this year where both the youtube video and the spotify track is under 3 minutes. Also the guy has the same name as me and is from the 'county' that I live in.

By-elections 2024
Only thing notable is that the Tories have a possibility of getting a smaller vote share in a constituency they've won absolute majorities in for decades than their vote share in Hartlepool (52%) that they gained midterm after decades of Labour wins. But their victory could be a lot better than 52% too. If the home counties start turning away from the Tories in favour of the Lib Dems, Greens and Labour then this isn't the first place where this will happen. The remain vote, housing crisis, ethnic diversity and out-migration of young families from London - all factors that could play a part in a Tory downfall - is happening more so in other suburban constituencies.

This is very /r/enlightenedcentrism galaxy brain lol Even in a polarised environment, it is not a zero sum game. The metric you use to judge that the BBC's news output is valuable is not 'both sides are dissatisfied'.

The Tory lies and deceit thread
Since the thread title is deceit, his statement simply mentions 'asking a male member of Parliamentary staff to dinner' and 'a breach of trust in the MP-staff relationship' with no mention of far worse things that actually caused him to lose the whip. I would hope that most of his constituents learn about it through articles like this one which explains that there's obviously a lot more to it than that.

Eurovision Song Contest 2021 · Grand Final
I actually had no idea Loreen wasn't white lol I'm sorry to make the UK The Protagonist™ again but even those saying that Britain's track didn't deserve 0 points won't go as far as saying that it was in the top 10 tracks, which is what you need an entire nation's televote or jury to agree on in order to get off 0. I think there's a wilful lack of understanding of how the voting system works.

Albania and Lithuania should not be on the second half of the scoreboard.

Eurovision Song Contest 2021 · Grand Final
Ok but it's difficult to see how it's in anyone's top 10 and at least the other bad songs make an impression on you (Germany), even if it's just because they're aggravating. Embers is just boring. So nul points will be fully deserved!
