Yeah since around October it's been so incredibly easy to get tested here - there are wee PCR test gazebos outside train stations, in town squares - and you can also buy home DIY tests in supermarkets for €5. It makes me a bit bitter that if I ever wanted to travel back to Britain, I'd have to pay hundreds of pounds for two home-testing kits, which seems like a cost calculation made by the same government that oversees the distribution of weekly food parcels containing food that can be bought for £10 in a supermarket but costs the taxpayer £30.

WELL I'm glad last month's contest was brilliant because that was.... not stellar. I often complain about only being able to give a song a pity point when I feel like they deserve 8 points, but here we have my 8 pointer that would've been a commiseration last month. I'm hoping I qualify because I feel like my entry stands out, and so the few people that would enjoy it might not have much else to choose from?

Unlike February 2020's top-tier contest, a lot of my faves (Fljotavik, Tartford, Caerfyddia, Utopia, Klumanica) have flopped to some extent this time and a lot of the top 10 don't do much for me, but I'm glad to have come away with so many discoveries!

Britain now has fewer new cases and hospitalisations than France (similar country, similar population size, different pandemic decisions taken) for the first time in months, although deaths are still higher. With the vast majority of vulnerable people vaccinated, the number of deaths in Britain should have really tumbled by Easter if not sooner, regardless of what happens to the rate of spread among young people. Good news!
