I don't think there will be a second wave (=exponential growth in cases as in March and April), for what it's worth. Unless you mean a second wave to be a prolonged first wave, which is what we're seeing now. There will probably continue to be local clusters sprouting up in places but in the context of a slow, Europe-wide decline.
  2. You can't roll out the 'we can't afford it' and 'spend it elsewhere' line when you support a UK government that's happily beckoning a form of Brexit which makes the country's economy 9% smaller (according to the government's own figures). It should be impossible for Tories to get away with voicing concerns about public finances and the economy now.
  3. Hype for Buzzjack Mountain. Any publicity is good publicity.
  4. I mean the trade deal is so unambitious at this point that the UK government's intended landing zone and consequences of failure are almost equally disastrous for the UK economy. They can at least be open about their lack of effort in order to get Brexiteer clout.
  5. Yeah I think British people top the charts when it comes to self-denial, both when it comes to the history of racism in Britain and racism today, sociologically speaking. It's different to the US but in some ways worse and less subtle. Not that the US has learnt all the lessons in needs to with its slavery either, but thanks to its history at least 'if you don't like it here then go back to your own country' wouldn't be said to a non-white person there, but it is in Britain, and it's acceptable in many quarters.
  6. @1271828939619602432 Another Saturday where I make the mistake of staying inside most of the day and have to log off early because I'm too angry at Tory MPs only able to condemn by "both siding".

BB5 fight night is a classic, but not for particularly great reasons and I don't think C4 would want to air that - it's not the most pleasant watch.
  8. I am sure criticisms against the protesters - this time far right ones doing Nazi salutes in front of the Cenotaph - about respecting social distancing and attacking the police will come from the exact same people as the criticisms last weekend.

wait what why Did we watch the same season. I'd happily take Tyler, Angela and Derrick but I'm not sure if they're the best characters for making great TV? It depends if you want sassy gifs or something more I guess.

-20% in a month. The UK economy is now smaller than it was in 2002.
  11. Sunday would be great for me! Other days are maybe possible too.

MLsqs9mLyTQ Just from the title alone, this is Cascada's Evacuate The Dancefloor except for Boiler Room wankers x
  13. He won't be running and has already endorsed Biden anyway. If I remember rightly, Democrat primary candidates have to swear not to run as third party/independent candidates if they fail to clinch the Democrat nomination.
  14. London police only have to look to Manchester and Belfast to see that protests can quite easily remain peaceful when there's no provocation.
  15. Barbaric for a civilian to wheel a bike into a horse but absolutely irresponsible in the first place for the police to use one of the most antsy animal species and charge at protesters with them in a situation like that. I assure you that it wasn't wheeling a bike that made a horse dangerously bolt into a crowd. It's insane that London police have had a week to witness the consequences of provoking peaceful protests in the US and thought 'let's try that here but with added animal cruelty'.
  16. I have seen no evidence of a bike being thrown at a horse, only of police abusing humans and animals alike?
  17. So you can make something up/repeat a lie and then when proven wrong, you claim it doesn't matter that you're wrong because in your head it was gonna happen anyway?
  18. ? @1269334788567072774 Not protesters' fault that the police are charging with their horses like cavalry when they don't know how to use and control them in such situations.
  19. On second thoughts, the concept isn't completely unknown to that country as they're something of a speciality of the right wing dictatorships in Chile and Argentina, installed by the US in the 70s and 80s during their crusade against communism.
  20. @1269295415347699712 The only consolation we can hope for is that the woman reappears and that it's happening on a small/local scale, but forced disappearances - the kidnapping of people by uniformed or plain-clothed state authorities without due process or acknowledgement of the disappearance - almost exclusively happen in third world dictatorships experiencing civil war.
  21. What makes you think that? I'm all for dismantling the two party system but this is perhaps the least likely election for this to happen? * Around 80% of likely voters are enthusiastic about voting for their chosen candidate, which is a historically high figure. * In 2016, a significant 20% chunk of voters disliked both Clinton and Trump. I can't find the equivalent percentage this year, but in any case it will only be known after the election as turnout for these voters is extremely unreliable. But we do know that Biden's favourability among voters and non-voters alike is running about 10% higher than Clinton's, as is Trump's (Trump is a historically unpopular incumbent but is still more popular than he was before the 2016 election, when he hadn't fully captured the Republican Party!). * Even with so many people disliking both main candidates, 2016's third party votes barely made 5%. My hunch is that doesn't matter how much ideological space there is for a third party candidate to break through - it's not something prioritised this year when most voters's focus is on either stopping Trump or keeping him in. Justin Amash, who has a much bigger profile than any other likely third party candidates, has already dropped out because of issues like this. Since my boycott of US politics is failing, I'm gonna read up and find out when third party candidates can be moderately successful, such as in 1992. We already know that the environment in 1992 was nothing like this one, however.

When we rightly end the UK, I hope the process will be more conciliatory than with the leaders who implement Brexit but that the margin will also be a lot more decisive than that.

The Guardian headline right now is 'Face masks and coverings to be mandatory in English hospitals' and I'm just like 'they haven't been for the last 3 months???' And on the subject of masks, my brother laughed at me when I told him we all had to wear one at work and seemingly there's an aversion to wearing them, probably for various masculinity-related reasons.
  24. I personally remember your obsession with these two during the MSN era!
