Every state is not supposed to be close but your vote in a nationwide election should count regardless of where you are in the country. If you are Republican in Massachusetts then your vote is irrelevant. It really does not make a difference whether you vote or not there, and it does not matter if a candidate persuades you to switch your vote.

I'm 10 days late with this but 2011 was a political awakening for teenage me and there are probably lots of my posts in the Buzzjack threads of yesteryear. I remember the 2011 riots really well. It was very shocking but I don't know if there was widespread fear from the 2011 riots. The material damage may have been greater and I remember policing/clashes with the police being a much heftier topic too. But what was particularly scary this summer was the pogrom-like hate and the targeting of minorities which for me is far scarier than opportunistic looting of businesses.

I think I go for a major nostalgia trip (for me) and enter a band I haven't thought about in like 7 years and what would be a big break from the usual Skall sound of late. Reached #14 on the UK album chart this summer somehow.

I didn't vote for a whole lot in the top 10 (a rare Jadakissnia and Kathaldazia snub that hasn't hurt them!) but very happy with that winner and ty for hosting.

Quite impressed that I managed to significantly improve on semi final performance where I barely scraped by despite getting 12 from Eledan (who didn't vote in the final) and 12 from Altyr (who went on to give me 0 in the final). So excluding those two oddities I actually took just 24 points from the semis into the final.

And all but one of these victories, while also impressive, were from candidates who had already built up a profile as an MP while being in a political party, or benefited from the support of allied political parties (with them standing down) while nominally being independent. The independent victories really came out of nowhere. I don't have any fun facts other than Labour having 11/11 MPs in Derbyshire. If you had told me that in 2019 I would have expected an even stronger landslide than what actually happened.
