Also this is a disclaimer: If anybody does come forward as a variant collector, please respect them. No insults or name calling will be tolerated (as usual) but seeing as we've had a member already step over this line in one of the chart threads when it comes to this topic, I'm getting ahead of it and telling you all right now that if I or any other moderators feel that a line has been crossed, you WILL be warned and potentially banned.

Obviously a hot topic this week! Are you a fan of it? Does it bother you if people variant collect? Are you a chart purist? Where do you stand with it in general? It’s particularly common in vinyl collecting but it’s aso been done with CD’s etc.. too (standard versions, deluxe versions, 1 member of each band having a slipcase etc..) Do you ever or have you ever variant collected before? If you DO variant collect do you go ALL in and get every copy or do you just buy the variants you like?

As someone who worked in HMV when '25' came out, I can confirm that people did in fact buy more than 1 copy... (and people have done for years and years and years before that!) Buying more than one copy of an album isn't a new concept. Ofc it's still an impressive feat and I'm clearly not saying everybody bought more than one copy - just saying that there were more than a few people who did buy more than one copy of that album, whether they bought multiple for themselves I obviously don't know (I know people irl who bought duplicate copies of albums for various reasons like 1 for their car and 1 for their home etc..) But anyway, it's insane that we are seeing these levels again. I was starting to doubt we ever would (variants or not) tbh. Physical media (for the most part) is just at a real low right now and the only way artists get to boost their numbers is by releasing different variants (hence why different albums get random chart boosts sometimes when a new variant drops), but even then I didn't think we'd see 400k (or thereabouts) first week again.

That was a lot more fun than I had originally anticipated it being. I'm not really a fan of celebrity versions of reality shows like this tbh, but I think this works better than I thought it would.

About to hit 100,000 members. There seems to be a real shift in momentum for them atm and they're capitalising effectively and quickly enough. The press are ofc trying to tarnish their every move, but Zack's got his head in the game and does incredibly well at combating the negatives.

So pleased. It's my favourite song on the album! Excited to hear what the full 7 day figure will be. It's done 5 full days of being over 1 million here in the UK!

Does that mean it's actually coming and we're getting a pre-order soon? I hope so. I hope she aims for a January/early Feb release date!

Taylor's "shelf life" is literally at 20 years from next year... so that point isn't the "drag" you think it is. "Stopped with these fictional charts years ago"... yet... here you are... in a chart forum... moaning about an artist charting... You'd have more of a point if streaming the album in full equated to one "sale" per account. But unfortunately, every artist has to adapt and variants is just the way it's at currently. Hence why every 95% of artists will use (and continue to do so) that tactic for the forseeable. I think it gets over estimated how many fans fully variant collect anyway (generally speaking).

Idk but I think this is more about how variants are only a problem for one artist but fine for faves of the fandoms who are complaining about that kind of thing? P.s. I'm very pro-variant, I like having the choice and I don't get the issue (especially when I buy what I want to buy and others can do as they please with their money too)... it's just annoying when people complain when one artist does it but turn a blind eye and buy into it when it's their faves doing it etc.. at the end of the day this is the respective artists jobs and times like these for the industry I'd argue that variants are definitely the most helpful for their careers atm (alongside touring ofc). I know people who have moaned about Taylor's vinyl variants but then gone and bought every variant of their favourite artists It's just humorous at this point.

I think it's fair to say that with less than 3 months left of the year, this is my album of the year. I can't see anything on the release schedule beating this for me. So providing there are no "surprise releases"... (even then it'd have to be Britney at this point for me) Still obsessed with it.
